Japow 2025 – Day 4 – Suginohara – Myoko, Japan

Day 4 in the land of snow! Today we skied at Suginohara. It was a lot more vertical than we expected, we rode about 51 miles compared to the last 2 days of 30ish miles. We skied it out! Woke up and got our dose of my banana milk and ice cream and Tanuki’s coffee and musubi. I stopped at some board shops and this guy named Koji said he could do a 30 minute hot wax for $15 so I was stoked! It was a game changer, I can’t believe I hadn’t gotten a wax foe so long. So dumb of me. We caught the daily shuttle and paid like $10 to get a 30 minute ride to the furthest resort on the Myoko range. They had a gondola and plenty of vertical drop and surprisingly some decent tree skiing. It was a little more south facing so the powder we hit was a little heavier and old but we still had a blast. We actually boot packed up to an out of bounds spot and as we were walking along the ridge, I noticed a huge crack in this enormous cornice. We were lucky to see it because that is a guaranteed slide. We dropped back into the trees and had a bunch of fun runs through the trees all day. Our friends from Hawaii joined us and we hit some park laps, found a built jump in the trees and sessioned it, got some garlic shrimp and a banana milkshake for lunch then had to spoil myself with an additional green oreo looking muffin and more ice cream. We hit tree runs the rest of the day til closing and then got more ice cream! Rode back and hit up the onsen as always! We found a cool skate bar and they had Japanese Poutine! I discovered poutine in Canada and now it had become my favorite snowboarding meal. It hit the spot! Crashed hard in bed!
