New! Welcome Suica Mobile | Game Changer of Japan Travel

JR East Train Company in Japan issued a new iPhone app “Welcome Suica Mobile” on March 6, 2025. With this smartphone app, you can use your credit card to charge the transportation card, and no need to prepare cash of Japanese for charging it. But… isn’t that what we used to have already with Apple Pay’s Suica? There was some special features for travlers on it, and also it has 180 days exparation. Let me explain details.

  1. Wonderful to see the vast majority of smartphone users (aka Android owners) getting zero love.
    Great update though! Thanks!

  2. If I remember correctly, the physical Welcome Suica cards expire after 28 days. 180 days is a big improvement over that! Nice.

  3. The ability to buy the one day pass is really useful. I don't use apple but this will be good for customers that do use it.

  4. Do you know if it is possible to connect shinkansen tickets purchased through the smart-ex website?

  5. Thank you so much for your informative video. I used the Pasmo app. it was very convenient. I used it not only for train and subway, but also in convenient stores like 7-11, family mart etc. I'm pretty sure Suica does the same. what I like most is I can refill it with credit card right inside train station when my balance is low.

  6. I purchased a Famicom Disk Suica card holder from the Nintendo store last time I was there. I want to make use of it. I'll cling to my physical card as long as possible haha

  7. Just in time for me visiting Japan next month. I'm so glad they made this app, and finally in English, I was trying to watch guides to set up the old Suica app cause its in Japanese

  8. Me doing something wrong, the train gate denying me, and playing that alarm, is my biggest source of trauma in Japan.

  9. I don't get it.. Why would I want to get this app, when I can just find a Suica through my Apple Wallet?

  10. I was excited about this news until I heard Apple Pay… sadly in Thailand we can’t use Apple Pay with our iTunes account 🙁
