I really like the 350z and I’m looking into buying one but I wanna know about other alternatives first, like an S2000. I’m looking for something sporty but reliable to daily drive and about the same prize as the z.

I’d stick with the Z! There isn’t too much in the price point of a Z thats going to realistically compete with the Z in terms of “coolness” or (in my personal opinion) performance.

The z is a sick car and they’re popular for a reason – lots of affordable JDM cars out there but the Z is one of the best bargains for money you can get right now! an S2k or something similar will mean ponying up a noticable amount of extra cash.

  2. Your region might vary, but here the Porsche boxster can be had for similar money. Friend had both and I ended up with the zed. Zed was more raw and more fun, but the boxster was classier and more controllable.
Porsche gonna cost more to maintain, but it’s going to be nicer inside.

Maintenance can be a PITA with an s2k, you’re better off with the z

NC2 MX5 is probably the most underrated alternative. ITBs and mild headwork, and those are a blast.

350z’s aren’t exactly reliable past 150k miles btw, they suffer from massive blow by, and your piston rings likely won’t make it to 200k unless you drive under 3500rpm 100% of the time from brand new to 200k, which 99% of people haven’t. Vs the S2k you can take that thing to high rpm every day without an issue.

FRS/BRZ is of course another option, but you will want to add a turbo or supercharger.

Porsche Boxsters can sometimes be had for around the same price. They have a common bearing issue, so as long as the owner has replaced it with an aftermarket one, then Boxsters are a solid platform as well. And sound AMAZING with the right exhaust system.
