Mt. Fuji and Oshino Hakkai, Japan – Trafalgar Splendors of Japan July 2023
The first clip is my first official view of Mount Fuji 🗻. Then, how I get there. First riding the Kachikachiyama Ropeway and taking in the sweeping views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchik in a cramped gondola 😆. Of course, Mount Fuji is an iconic tourist experience, and lining up for the gondola involved a line and some wait time. It was an interesting cultural experience for me seeing the workers fully bowed down when the gondola arrived.
After the obligatory Mount Fuji photo ops, as well as soaking it all in (and it was surprisingly reasonable and not crowded considering it was a summer day!), we wandered through Oshino Hakkai, a peaceful village in the Fuji Five Lakes region, where eight pristine spring ponds shimmer with reflections of Mt. Fuji and the sky. You can even bottle up the springwater or drink it from the spout. To me surprisingly, I had never seen or heard of the spot and it was more awesome than seeing Mount Fuji.
