Touji (Winter Solstice) Traditions #japan #japanlife #japantravel #japanculture #foodtraveljapan
I never knew there were traditions surrounding the winter solstice in Japan until a few years ago, and a friend of mine handed me a bag of yuzu (a Japanese lemon-like citrus) around the end of December. I asked her what I’m supposed to do with them because they were so many and she said put them in your bath. How odd, especially because she said nothing about it being a tradition in Japan!
As for the kabocha (squash) I learned about that just this year from a student. One of the great things about living in Japan is I never stopped learning new things!
