LIVING in FUKUOKA | No.15 | Nice small shops highest density area in Fukuoka
live in Fukuoka.
And this is a vlog of my ordinary days.
This week, I had lunch time at my favorite places in Shiragane, Hirao areas. There are many nice small shops in those areas so that when I visit, I usually make 3 to 4 stops at bakery, coffee shop, stationary shop, flower shop etc. This time, I visited Wabisuke, a #Michelin Bib Gourmand Soba dining, 2 bakeries, and one cafe dining with shop & gallery.
These shops are all in within 10 minutes walking distance. Walking around the quiet residential areas and finding those nice small shops will be one of the way to enjoy Fukuoka.
Make sure to check the open days before you visit because many shops take day offs on
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
Thank you for watching.
Please check information about shops & places here below.

▶ Wabisuke | 侘助
Michelin Bib Gourmand Soba dining in Shiragane, 500 meter from Yakuin station. I love this place not only for their soba but also for the atmosphere. It is an old traditional Japanese house where you need to take off your shoes when you go inside. And once you step inside, the time slows down. BGM is the sound of an old clock and the old phone ring.
Their soba is also one of a kind. They purchase brown buckwheat directly from growers in the best production areas of the year.
Carefully selected Soy sauce, mirin, sake and other seasonings are naturally brewed using traditional methods with no additives.
I ordered 10 Wari soba – Arabiki (made from 100% soba wheat & soba chaff) and served only 10 servings a day. Soba chaff has high fiber and nutrition and gives dark color to the soba. Many soba lovers visit here from all over Japan.
Open everyday from 11:30 a.m. except Tuesday.
Making a reservation is recommended for a table for more than 3 people and on weekends +81 92-285-4217

▶Boulangerie Patisserie E-ji
A pâtisserie located inside an old arcade building PASSAGE F.
Only 10 minutes walk from Yakuin station. The building is very unusual looking considering Japan, on the 1 floor there are small shops and the second floor is a residential. Take out only, but if you bring what you purchased to the coffee shop which is on the same floor, by ordering a cup of coffee, you can eat your cake or pastry right there.

Open everyday except Tuesday, Wednesday from 11a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
▶Christmas Market at Hakata Station
Christmas advent events began in several places in Fukuoka and this is one of them.
Market opens from 16p.m. on weekdays, 12p.m. on weekends.
There are many Christmas related gift shops and wine and food shops to enjoy. It’s a joyful time of the year.

Very nice as usual, 2nd Passport! Beautifully shot and relaxed tempo. Both bakeries look wonderful. My first time in Japan and my first hotel was in Shirogane +20 years ago. It was a very traditional, old Japanese hotel, only tatami mats and futons. It was run by a woman named Seiko, very friendly and her daughter too. The daughter drove me to places when she had errants. The daughter arranged ikebana and there was a tokonoma in every room. When I came back in the evening there was always a sandwich and a chu-hi on the table and the futon was made. There was an onsen like big bathtub one could book. I was overwhelmed. They also had great food, but there were many great, small restaurants to explore just in the quarters, the owners son had a izakaya style place a couple of blocks away. I am very happy to have chosen that place as a first experience in Japan, travelling alone. I think the hotel part is now only open for special, regular customers and groups. Maybe it is the same place where you had lunch? It looks a bit the same on the outside, garden and on the inside. Maybe it has changed owner? Then later I met my gf and I got to know the whole city and suburbs and lived there for a number of years. Btw, Itoshima is great with their oysters. Arigato!
