⛩️Fushimi Inari-taisha
📍Kyoto🇯🇵
Fushimi Inari-taisha⛩️ is a famous Shinto shrine located in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, Japan. It is renowned for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, which form a network of trails leading into the wooded forest of the sacred Mount Inari. The shrine is dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice, and is also known for its fox statues, which are considered to be Inari’s messengers. Established in 711 AD, Fushimi Inari-taisha is the head shrine of all Inari shrines across Japan and is a popular destination for both tourists and pilgrims.
Visitors can walk the entire trail through the torii gates, which takes about 2-3 hours to complete. The hike offers a mix of serene forest paths and various smaller shrines along the way. The main shrine is located at the base of the mountain, and as visitors ascend, they pass through several sub-shrines before reaching the summit. The torii gates are often donated by individuals and businesses, with inscriptions on each gate indicating the donor’s name and the date of the donation.
