Kind of weird seeing in almost empty metroline, guys. Anyways, I have brought you to Elephant & Castle. It is not a circus, what I have heard, is a Hispanic Latino area of London. So we’re going to go check it out and see who we meet. Try some food. See the neighborhood, hear the people’s stories. I’m very curious. Cuz myself… Which way… I think the exit is this way. All right, ‘way out’, it couldn’t be clearer Now, my story: I was worn in Venezuela but since I’m 5, I live in Miami. If you haven’t been, in the moment to go out of the plane, you will hear the Cubans speaking "hey, kid, this singao…" *Blah-blah-blah* And you’re like "I’m in America or Cuba/Latin America…?" All right. ‘Way out’, it can’t be more clearer. So, basically, Miami is just Latino dominated. And so far, I noticed in London there’s people all over the world living here. Literally, every single area. But this area here, Elephant & Castle, is latino dominated. So let’s check it out. Fun fact, guys: during in WW2, while the Nazis were bombing the crap out of London, a lot of the people were hidden over here Inside the subway station. No way. So yeah, they were all hidden here. All right, guys, at the nine stops in the total was about $10 USD to ride the subway here. All right, first look at Elephant & Castle. No animals found. First observation, guys, it smells like 4-20 in the air. So far, I haven’t seen anything. Maybe let’s get some help. Excuse me, brother. Quick question. I heard this was like a latino neighborhood. Over here there are a lot of shops and stuff like that? – Just down there, it’s for Latin speaking people there. – Also, if you just do the left where that bus is, Right. – Just there is… – Food for Colombians and thinks like that. Okay. – Yeah. And where that gray building is there, – there’s ‘The Blue Bar’, which is also another restaurant. – Around this area now, – there’s a lot more for Latino Hispanic and all that as well. Okay, so there’s the food and neighborhood is that way. Where they’re living. – The food is just over there. – If you just do the left down, the side of, as I say, where that bus is, – that Elephant Road, – right in the end are the Colombian restaurants and stuff. Okay. – And it’s more upcoming, I like it. It’s good. Yeah? Did you try some of the food there? – I do like a spicy food, and enchilada and stuff like that. – It’s just finding the right places. All right. – I work on there. – So I don’t get a chance to really eat much around here. – But I live in Burmandy and there’s a lot more Mexican, that sort of spicy food coming around. – Which is good cuz I don’t like Indian food. All right, man. – It’s a different type of spice. Right. Yeah, it’s way different, yeah. – Yeah, different, I like that as well. – Have a good day. – All right, you too, brother. All right, guys. Let’s go check out the food first. I’m starving. And then, we’ll check out the neighborhood to see where the people are living. Yeah, it looks relatively nice and safe so far. You know, just like in Miami. You can find nice Latino neighborhood or you can take yourself to like Little Habana. And spots like that, where it can be a bit more sketchy. Check it out. Check out the barber shop. Oh, and there we go, guys. We’re getting somewhere now. Latino propaganda. Look, check it out. People have rooms to rent. They put a little paper like that. I see that all over Miami. Literally, inside a every grocery store. All right, so this is the road though. Am I going to make it…? No, negative, Ghost Rider. Check it out, guys. I have run into a butchery, it’s called ‘La Fama’. That means ‘the fame’. And from the looks of it, it is definitely Colombian own. Let’s go have a look. Oh, look, guys, we have Colombian pesos here. Old COP, so these are not the ones that you’re getting nowadays. Check it out. Check out, tropical fruits. Guayaba. Lulo. The lifegiving Harina Pan to make arepas. ‘Platano maduro’, to make sweet plantains. Oh, some of the good stuff, guys. Cheesee for this arepas. And all the drinks. Colombian sodas. You have Brazilian Guarana over here. You have the green plantains to make some ‘tostones’. ‘Patacones’ and stuff like that. Let’s talk to the folks here. Hi, hello. – Hi, my friend. How are you? Has it been difficult for Latinos here to settle? – No, like everything else. – If you don’t come with someone already, it’s always hard. Of course, of course. – But we still help each other a lot. – Among the Latinos we try to help each other. How do you help each other? – By giving work in the same restaurants, in the same Latino businesses that are there. – They support each other if they can. – But all’s well, parcero, thank goodness. How nice. And you, are you ‘paisa’? – I lived 12 years in Medellín. – But I’m from the coffee zone Okay. Okay. And where do you like it best? – I, around here, I live very happy. Yes? – Anyway, one’s country is one’s country. – But it’s good here too. What do most Latinos do here? What do they like to do? – We spend our time working here. Working. – Working. – Here the time to do your little things is very little, because time is short. Of course. – Here people are always walking back and forth. Back and forth, right? It’s all right. Well, thanks for your time, brother. – No, you’re welcome, parcero. You know I’m at your service. – I’m at your service. Thank you, brother. – You’re welcome, brother. Check it out, guys, looks like a used bikes store. Or maybe they just fix them. – A single apartment costs you about 800 thousand-1 million GBP. One-bedroom? – Two. Two-bedroom, but small. – Very small. – Right. 1 million GBP. – Almost. Wow. And before, how much was the rent here for an apartment? – You can get it for half, 500 thousand GBP. – The rent has gone up a lot from 5 years ago. – A lot. So, the Latino can no longer live so much in the center. – But rather in a third, fourth zone, right? – Already those who are left here is because they have been here for a long time. – I’ve been here 34 years. 34 years here? And what part of Colombia are you from? – From paradise, from Palmira. It is well. And do you miss your country or are you used to it here? – Well, it’s 34 years but I used to work in aviation. – So, I have the advantage of having many years in Latin America – and to Colombia. – But, to those who didn’t work in what I worked in, that I was lucky, – it does cost them a lot. – Once a year, twice a year. – Three times in ten years, around. – But like him in Argentina, it was every year. – Because it’s a little far. – Every year we went, I went every year, luckily. – But well, now we were able to include the family. – But it’s missed a lot, yes. – There’s a billiard table there, look. – They’re all Latinos. There’s a disco in there too. Yeah? – Yeah. Ah, well, I’ll be right over for a beer. Hey, I’m curious. I was in Argentina about a year ago. And I saw that the situation there is very tough. I have even seen that quite a few Argentines have left Argentina. I have seen them in Mexico and wherever they can go. Have you seen as many Argentines arriving recently? – Here, no. No? No, it could be in Spain. – No, it could be in Spain. – In the United States they say there are in Miami, Florida. – Not here, maybe because of the language and the climate. – And they have Spain here nearby, because of cultural issues. – The language, the climate. – So, they go more to Spain than here. – There are not many people here. – As the Argentinean has the passport of his Italian or Spanish relatives, – they enter like different. – So, they don’t concentrate around here, they have other places. – There are quite a few Argentines in London. – And also, there were many but not as many as at that time – in the ‘corralito’, a lot of people left. – Now, not so much. – There were stages. In 2001. – Then, it was further about 10 years later. – Now, too. – I tell you the ones that are coming in the most. – The ones that have been coming in, lately, were, – they already got visas, were the Hondurans. – It has risen. And how about Venezuelans? 7 years ago, with the crisis there. – Yes, but the Venezuelan here needs a visa. – So, you are going to find them more in Spain. Yes, there are many in Spain. – Venezuelans come here but with Spanish passports. Okay. – Like many Ecuadorians, many Dominicans do. – It went up a lot. Before the Brexit, a lot of them came. – And they’ve stayed here already. – With papers from here. – Because here you already have to have the papers after the Brexit. – Even if you have a European passport. Oh, that’s all right. Check it out, guys, the pool. Good good. I was told there’s like a pool here. – A what? To play pool. – Yes, but they open at 4 PM. Oh, they open at 4 PM? – Yes, they do. Ah, that’s where all the Latinos here hang out. – No, this is where the English meet. – The Latinos meet over there. What’s his name? – "Enchilado." "Enchilado"? Okay, okay, thank you. All right, guys, so with all the construction going on, the local British folks… I’ve taken over that pub. So he told me there’s another one where they’re all hanging out at. So things have changed, guys, same thing is going on in Miami. They’re not kicking the Latinos out, there’s way too many. But it is getting expensive… I grew up over there, rent wouldn’t go over 1.000 USD. And now, a crappy ass one one is going to be 2 grand. And that’s in the suburbs. Check it out, guys. Empanadas. Amiga, a question, are these empanadas here good? – Yes, they are very good. They are? – Yes, they are. I’ll see. Where are you from? – From Medellin. From Medellin? – Yes. Ah, ‘paisa’. – But they are also very good there. – At the restaurant. Yeah? And what would you say is the best place? – Best place for what? To eat. – I really liked here on the way back, they make Colombian food. Yes, very good? – Super. And how long have you been here? – I arrived the day before yesterday. The day before yesterday? – Yesterday. So, a day ago? – Yes, I’ve been here several times. I go back and forth. – For the school. Okay. – But I got here the day before yesterday. But you’re living here? – Like in both parts. Both, you come and go. – Uh-huh. Ah, that’s right. Check it out, guys, various products. You can make delicious sugar cane juice with this. With panela, or papelón. The best thing ever created, guys, only 2 GBP. That’s like 2.50 USD, pretty much the same in the States. You can get your Latin fix over here. Juices. Oh, ‘Tajín’, this is Mexican area. I like it. Let’s check it out over here. All right, this is a first. I only seen them this big in Latin America, guys. Looks like they also got them over here. Papaya. "My son, don’t give papaya." Check it out, guys, this is the restaurant over here. So, it’s a restaurant and also a store. – Restaurant-cafeteria. And cafeteria. And how long has this place been here? – Here, it’s been here since December. – But this, 15 years. 15 years, the market, and the restaurant, expanded. – Yes. Ah, that’s right. And hasn’t the change been affecting you? I heard this used to be much more Latin. But now, with the construction, they’ve had to leave. – No. Everything still flowing? – No, we sell a lot. That’s all right. – We sell a lot in the store. – The main thing of us is the store. The store and the bakery there. – And the bakery. And all the products here. – And have you seen the empanadas? Now I’m going to get one, because I’m very hungry. All right, thank you very much for your time. I’m really starving. At the legs and chest earlier. Oh, sardines. Oh, Colombian soda. All kinds of sodas, actually. They have a guava soda. I never tried this one. Venezuelan soda. Arepas, as many as you can possibly count. This is really good. For you, guys, watching locals over here living in the UK and London, I’m putting you on some of my favorite objects. The ones I pay the most attention to, those are among my favorites. All right. Pandebono, you got to try. ‘Papa rellena’, you gotta try. Sweet pantains with cheese, you gotta try. Good morning, how are you? – Good morning. I’d like a meat empanada, please. – Of course, yes, we’ll give it to you now. – A meat empanada for the gentleman. Thank you very much. Empanadas here. Beef and chicken. – Chicken. They fire is in there. And this is the bread flour here? – The dough of the fritter. Oh, the fritter. – Colombian empanda, well made and very tasty. – Made in Colombia, you know? Where are you from? – Colombia. From which city? – Cali. Cali? And how long have you been here? – 2 years. 2 years? – No, 3 years. – But I lived in Spain. Ah, you went to Spain first and then here. Before Brexit? – That’s right. Okay. They’ve been telling me that. And how about the change? Cali with so much heat, and here, with so much cold and rain. – I like Spain better. Do you like Spain better? Jesus Christ, man! [Speaking Spanish] No, in Miami we also have everything. But I have never seen here in London, a Latino community like that. – It’s like Colombia. – And the Latinos, where are they there? In Miami? On all the corners. Even from the sewers they come out, there’s never one missing. – What happens is that he is Venezuelan. – They are fixing the asphalt for Maduro, for once he goes there and hands over power. And you, what part of Colombia are you from? – I’m from Pasto, near the border with Ecuador. – Do you see that I hardly speak? And how long have you been here? – I arrived 8 days ago and I’m asking for political asylum – and no one will give me political asylum. What a problem. – Imagine, they gave me a ticket until the 24th… – That’s a good one! – You’ll have to go to Colombia, won’t you? – Back to Colombia, mijo. To Pasto. – I own the buses and the trains here. – Come on, kid, I’ll pay you. – They call him "the wall of the house". – He told me "go to the street, so as not to hear it here". – A empanada, queen. Look at the vibes over here, guys. – I’ve been here the amount of 28 years, badly counted. 28 years here, in this area? – 28 years, in this area. And what was it like before, compared to now with these constructions? – There’s no confusion. Construction. – What there is is a new building. – It’s nice. Previously were valet houses. – The first building is the one here in the front, with some eyes on top. – That’s called the Strata, that’s the first building that they made in this sector. – What other question do you have? No, that’s all right, brother. Thanks for everything. Check it out, guys. ‘Ron de caldas’, that’s from Medellin. They also have ‘Diplomático’, that’s a Venezuelan ron. I highly recommend both. Definitely, and you can get them here. That’s an arepa making machine. You can make it by hand and heat them up, you got to flip them yourself. And they taste a lot better. But those are express and they’re good as well. Not as good but they get the job done. Thank you very much, very kind. – You’re welcome! – Well, thank you. I’m going to eat this right here, guys. I’m starving. My first taste of Latin America over here in London, mates. That’s a Colombian empanada. They gave me a little bit spicy sauce here. There’s meat and potatoes in there. But of course, we can make this better. Let’s add that spicy sauce. Way better, way better. If you like spicy sauce, of course. This one has a nice kick. I’ll give it a one and a half on the hot skill. Thanks for everything, very good. Thank you very much. All right. He’s selling some Jordan Retros. All right. I got that taste of spicy sauce here. So, as you, guys, heard, the funny guy was talking a lot. He likes the changes. He says it used to be like a low income area here. The homes, they weren’t as nice… And now they put up all these nice fancy buildings. I must say, guys, crossing the streets in and London… I’m a little uneasy cuz the cars are coming from the opposite direction as in most other countries. Cuz the driving wheel is on the other side here. Okay so another Colombian bakery, guys. They have a lot of these, a lot. Let’s find another kind of place. All right, an Indian place. Oh, Lord. Look at the biryani. They have biryani, but no, focus, Carlos. We’re doing Latin America today. I can see what’s going on over here with the Latinos as prices go up. They’re doing the same in Miami. Except like around the downtown area, where the Miami Heat play and the bayside area is that nice outdoor mall, just a block behind that, it used to be hood. 100% hood, you’re stepping in Overtown, one of the toughest areas of Miami. But slowly, they’re building more and more fancy buildings. And the hood has diminished to just a few projects. I’m walking around here, I don’t see much else, is getting fancier and fancier. It looks like that way, the homes and the buildings. Look like they’re in slightly worse shape. Opposed to all this new fancy stuff. So let’s dig our noses over there. Hey, guys, I got some car businesses. Little pathway. They got big plans for Elephant & Castle. I can you imagine this is what everything used to look like. It looks like this now, but before was probably like this. Bike lockers, guys. I noticed London is relatively flat, so makes sense. Feels like I’m walking up on some ghetto. Ladies, are you from here, this area? – Yeah. – No. – But I grew up here. She grew up here. All right. And what would you say, I heard that there is a lot of Latinos here. Did you grow up with other Latinos here? – Yeah, Elephant and Castle is more like… – Latin, yeah. That’s what I chill, they used to sit at The Top now. – Yeah. And the camp. What’s that? – Elephant & Castle. What os that? I mean, I heard is the area, but what is it exact… – It’s a shopping center. – Oh, it’s a shopping. So that’s where they’re all chill at. – That’s where they did, yeah. – It’s all gone now though. Yeah? And the majority have left? – No. – They around the back roads where the overground station is. – That’s where they’re chilling. – There’s like Latin clubs and stuff there. Oh, yeah? How would you describe this area? A proper hole? – Yeah, it’s not the worst area you could live in or chill in. – But it’s not the best. It seems like it’s getting nice, they’re building all these big… – I mean, it’s definitely upcoming. – Yeah. – But I’ve lived here my whole life. – I wouldn’t say somewhere you want to grow up. Check out some of the cars here, guys. A little bit of everything. A mercedez and then, one of these. It’s all pretty mixed Good afternoon. Are you from here? – No. No? Are you coming as a tourist? – No, I mean, are you asking if we’re from the area or from where? From this area, here. – We came from mayaquines Where do you come from? – Bolivia. Bolivians? – Yes, Bolivians. – What about you? I was born in Venezuela. – Ah, I’m a Maduro supporter. How long have you been here? – Me, 15 years. 15 years old? And how about this area? They tell me it’s full of pure Latinos. A little bit of everything. – It’s pretty much like this. – Because Elephant & Castle is known by the majority of Latino people. – And this sector is camber way – it’s full of a lot of people Latin, South American people. Yes? And a gentleman told me that this is changing. That they’re building all these buildings and that a lot of the Latinos are going, like, further south. – No, it’s just that this is the south. – Further in. – Part of south London is this part. – North is another sector. – It happens that people, when they are in the north, they say "let’s go south", – this is south for them, and the north for us is there. Okay. – And these buildings, practically, are new. – Most of them are new, they’re building more. – For the community. – Because the country itself builds for its inhabitants. – So, those buildings are for people who live here. Okay. – They come in, mostly from Spain. – A lot of people are arriving from the Dominican Republic that were not here before. Aha. – The biggest community of South American people is the Brazilian people. – Brazilians come first, followed by Ecuadorians. – Or Colombians, followed by Bolivians. – And lagging behind are the Peruvians. – The Peruvians, there are not many Paraguayans. – Uruguayans, neither. Mexicans? – What’s going on here is that the Latino communities, mostly us Bolivians, – we know how to get together every weekend. – You need to go here to burgers Park. – Go on the weekends. And you’re going to see from Friday onwards people playing sports. – Participating in recreational games. – And on Saturdays and Sundays, sometimes they do – solidarity meetings, for people who really need it. Okay. So, there goes the community here. – Yes, mostly the Bolivians. The Bolivians. – I’m talking. – The other communities, they almost don’t meet. – But if you hear about the Bolivian community, they are very united in that aspect. – If they know of a sick person, people in need, – they make the famous to help. Ah, how nice. – That’s nice. Yes, very good. – So, look for the Venezuelans. Okay. Let’s see if we find some ‘chamos’. Or better yet, ‘chamas’. Have a look. They’re going that way Looks like stumbled alley over here. And I’m not talking about… I’m gonna make a kick with the kid. Let me get a pass, bro. – Huh? Sure. Where are you from? – Here. Here? Real Madrid is gonna win the Champions League? – Yeah, obviously. Obviously, right? – Real Madrid will win. Well said. All right, man, we’re gonna play. Check this out, guys. Another Colombian restaurant. A lot of Colombian restaurants here. Here we have ‘The Costa’. Okay, this is Ecuadorian. I’ve never been to Ecuador. Check it out, guys, a Venezuelan restaurant. And then, we have a Dominican one. Bar and lunch. "What what what, boy?" All right, so they have this local here. But I’m going in front, for ‘arepita’. This is the spot. Oh, Frescolita and malt. Perfect. Good afternoon! How are you? – Hello! – Good afternoon, welcome! I’m here kind of recording and I’d like to kind of interview you guys. How long have you been here? – 14 years. 14 years? And Venezuelan, right? – Venezuelan from Táchira. Táchira? What part? – San Cristobal. San Cristobal? Ah, very nice. I was over there. – You have? That’s nice. And how about here? Are there a lot of Venezuelans here? – No, not many. In London, not many. No? Not like Spain or USA? – No. No? So, this is one of the few Venezuelan sites there are. – No, there are more. – There are a lot of Venezuelan sites lately but, yes, we are one of them. – Now, there are more Colombians, Ecuadorians. – From other places, but not Venezuelans. And how long has this business been going on? – Almost 4 years. – 4 years, yes. 4 years? Oh, and how about that? Have the people liked the Venezuelan food? – People love the arepas. Arepas? – Especially the arepas. Of course. Who’s not gonna like arepas, guys? I mean, I die for arepas. I want to try some. Which ones do you have? – There’s the ‘pepiada queen’. – With avocado, chicken, cheese, banana. – And here we crown it with chicharrón. Oh, yeah? Ok, a remix, I like it. – And then there’s the ‘pavilion’. Pavilion, yes, they have everything. I’m going with a ‘reina pepiada revolut’. – Aha, that has chicharrón and plantain. Okay, one of those, please. – Chicharrón and slice. Guys, check it out. They did a remix on the ‘reina pepiada’. And normally, it’s just the chicken and the avocado. But they have put pork belly here and sweet plantain. I’m all about it. It’s going to be the first time I’ve ever had one of those. I’m excited. Oh, they even have cachapas. – There are tequeños too. They have all that. Oh, yeah, look, here they have empanadas. Omg. – Soups. – Sancochos, tripe. Ah, well, there’s the soup. Oh, man, guys. So, if you are ever hungover over here, you can come… What time do you open here? – Noon, 12 PM. You can come here at 12 PM and get yourself a sancocho. It will take out all your hungover and you’ll feel a lot better. Promised. Guys, so check it out. They are supporters of Deportivo Táchira. – Deportivo Táchira, of course! And I’m from Caracas. Problems… That’s a derby over here. Like Arsenal vs Tottenham, you know? A big rivalry in football. We got the beautiful flag over here. And then, photos of Venezuela. And yeah, guys, like I said, definitely, try yourself some ‘Diplomático’. So check it out, this is your son. Do you speak English too? – This is my son, yeah, my son’s team. Your son’s team. His son is from San Cristobal, so the owner… You’re telling me the owner’s team is also… – He’s from San Cristobal as well, Venezuela. All right, so he’s from the same area. An basically, he put the colors of the team. On the team. – Of Deportivo Táchira. All right, guys, so there is a little Salomon Rondon there. And now comes the America’s Cup. – Now comes the America’s Cup, yes. What do you think? Against Mexico, Jamaica and Ecuador. – And Ecuador. The death group, guys. It’s gonna be tough. But the team is much better now. – Of course it is. Did you see how we’re doing in the playoffs? We’re there, brother, we are going for the first World Cup We’re going for the first World Cup, brother, you’ll see. – We’ll see. No, let’s go. – With Rondón. With Rondón, Soteldo. – That’s right. Don’t let me down, guys. Hey, and there used to be a Latin mall? – A shopping mall. Yes, but they knocked it down. – They knocked it down in September 2020. – In the pandemic. – And now they’re building it, but it’s not going to be the same. What was it like before? A lot of energy. – Lots of energy. – Music. – There were Latin discos. – Like Latin stores, as there are today. – But it was much more central. – It was a Latin center. I mean, do you feel like they’ve taken away a little bit of that Latin culture here? It used to be more Latin. – No, it still is. – Currently, there are more Latinos. – Also, a lot of Spanish. – And usually, well more restaurants than before. Oh, yeah? – Everything that’s the train tracks. – If you’ve seen, it comes from the Open Road to the end of this street. – They are all restaurants from different countries. – From Dominican Republic, Colombia, Venezuela. – I’m doing it little by little. – Because the heat damages things. – We like everything cool. It can’t get any cooler. She’s doing the mix on stock. And what does it have? – It has chicken, avocado, lemon, a little salt, pepper. All the good stuff, guys. So most places, they have that already made. In the morning, and they just leave it there. But she’s making it right now, guys, so it’s gonna be fresh. – Look. – It couldn’t be cooler. – We put cheese on it. – Don’t copy it later, eh. – We put the famous ‘pepiada queen’. – We put some chicharrón slices on it, that we just fried as well. Well, here we go. – Okay, here we go. Well, here we go. Well, here we go. All right, ready to rumble. – Look the Carlos’s order. The ‘reina pepiada’. – With all the toys. – I mean, with pork belly. Everything. All the vitamins. – It is served with sauce, the avocado sauce, guasacaca. – Garlic sauce, and then, spicy sauce. With malt. – The best combination. Definitely. – Enjoy! Thank you, thank you! Guys, so definitely do not confuse this with guacamole. It’s different. It’s a different thing. – Guasacaca, it’s different. – It’s totally different. It look similar, it might taste a little similar. But it’s very own taste. Both are delicious, guys. I’m extremely excited. I’ve never have this kind of arepa. Look at this, guys. It looks like a monster. It’s huge. It has all the vitamins from A to Z included. You got all the sauces you can want, the garlic. The guasacaca, the spicy. And then, we have malt, guys. It’s a malt beverage. This is one is imported, and it comes from the United States. And it’s a perfect combination with your arepa. And if you like soda, I recommend the red one there, the ‘Frescolita’. It’s, basically, red soda. And that’s the way they are, they help business with each other. – Yes. Like in Latin America. – That’s right, "lend me there, I’ll pay you back". "I need a little bit of sugar, this." – Exactly. That’s nice. I like it, guys. All right. I’m starving. That empanada earlier was a tiny appetizer. This is what I dreamed, guys. I’m glad I didn’t go for the biryani. Cuz I found a new arepa to try. Probably you want the same thing as me. How to buy this thing? Just pick a spot a go for it. That pork belly… The chicharrón with the arepa is delicious. – Everyone says "mmm…" – First bite, like "mmm…" How is it? How is the first taste? – It happens almost all time. – When the people try the first bite is like "mmm…" So good, guys. I want to get to the ‘reina pepiada’ part, guys. I want to add some of this guasacaca. This godness. The guasacaca is very good. – We also make it a little at a time, because otherwise the taste is not the same. So they’re doing everything here by little. "A little bit ot this". It makes it fresher. And makes it taste better, and I like it. Let’s try the garlic sauce, guys. This with some French fries or some tequeños, they also have tequeños here, I recommend to try that as well, Great stuff. But now I got try the actual ‘reina pepiada’ part. Fire, guys, fire. And for good measure, guys, I’m trying everything out and expecting everything. Put this right here, the spicy sauce. And you know what? Last, I’m gonna mix all three. Some house spicy sauce, delicious. Guys, I call that ‘the three in one’ ‘Three in one’, all three sauces in one bite. Let’s do it. That’s the best threesome ever. Brother, a pleasure. Thanks for everything. – Well, brother. Very tasty everything. – Here, always at your service. – They have to come, and here we are supporting among all of us. Thank you, then, see you later. – May your whole day be a success. Thank you, thank you. All right, guys, ‘Gocho’, as they call the ancient people in Venezuela, are extremely well mannered and very nice. And well, thank you very much for that new arepa I tried. Very tasty everything. – Ah, yes? At your service, sir. Thank you very much indeed. I liked it. – I hope you will come back to try something else. Yes, I have time. – And tell all those who follow you come. Okay, see you later. – Thanks, bye! All righty, guys, that heat the spot like you have no idea. And good people, they are handworking Venezuelan people. Check out. Another Colombian restaurant over here. Oh, there is the dude that was inside asking for something. The Latin quarter. Check it out, delivery to South America place over here. So, this right here is one of the most expensive renovation project in Europe. A lot of money is invested. Trying to make this place nicer. Another bakery over here. And doing so, they are not destroying the Latin quarter. But they are definitely changing it. They destroyed the mall. The mall had a bunch of stores. Maybe a hundred of stores in there. Full of Latin stuff, Latin people just hanging out. Guys, And, well, I met all these guys. Where are you guys from? – Dominicans. – Dominicans. All Dominicans? Ecuadorian. – Ecuadorian. From Guayaquil. – From Guayaquil? – Yes, from the south of Guayaquil, where the potato burns. And how long have you been here? – I’ve been here for 3 months, giving it hard and fighting. – I’ve been here for 11 years. ¿11? – Who’s been here the longest? – He has. 11 years. And how is it, what’s it like here? – It’s cool here. – Turn around, so you can see. – And we are in the afternoon. – Because, if it was at night on a Saturday, already after 3 AM, – you have people here in the square. Right here, in this square? – Every day, at any time, people here. – Any time. And you see how this is changing a little bit now that they’re putting up buildings? – Yeah, we were just talking about that the other day. – Because they were building the shopping malls right now. – So, more people are going to stop when the malls are finished. – And I think we’re going to have to be over there or move somewhere else. – Because it’s going to be crowded. Yes. – From different countries. – This is going to be very touristic indeed. It is, isn’t it? And don’t you think they’re stripping them at best? I heard from people here that the Latinos had to move quite a bit. Further south. – Of course. Because they raise the rent here too much. – Yes, there are also people who go to the north, or to the east, the west. – Wherever they want, where they have a house. And this area, do you consider it dangerous or was it considered dangerous before? – No, it is quiet… – I’ve been here for 3 months, this is a neighborhood, an – a conflictive area. – Because we are not the only ones causing problems. – Here the craqs, the junkies, give problems. – People who are crazy, people who go out to the discotheque. – Normal people, abnormal people. – That is… Are there discotheques around here? – Yeah, there’s 8-Ball over there. – 8-Ball over there. – And the one next to it, here. – There’s another one. – There’s one of white (gringa) people and stuff like that. – And this is the Latino plaza, here we are. – From different nationalities, different countries. A little bit of everything. – We are all brothers. – Uh-huh. – A little bit of everything. Well, here, Dominicans and Ecuadorians, all of you. – Dominican, Ecuadorian, over there, Colombian. – Here there is everything. – Spaniards. – Spaniards. – There are Haitians, there are from Nigeria. – From Venezuela. – There are from many countries. – Many countries, bro. Bro, and you who have been here longer, what’s the craziest thing you’ve seen in this Latin area? At Elephant & Castle. – Every day something new happens. – I’m not even surprised. – I’ve only been here a short time, I was told about a very hard experience. – They beat up a Chinese guy. – And, out of nowhere, came 10,000 Chinese in a van, – in Mercedes, and you know. – A fight of the Chinese with the Latinos here, imagine that. – A movie. Is that so? – Yes, it is. – Always the drink. – In fact, we take care of the block here. – For all those people who come here to steal phones, make trouble here. – Don’t let them come and waste their time. – Because we are taking care of the block. – This is our second home. For the dead? I mean, you guys protect the thing here. – Right. If somebody steals here or something, you guys jump in. – Let’s say, the malls, the supermarkets. – Nobody can steal it, only we can steal it. – And so, really, here we are fine, here we have fun in the morning. – In the afternoon, in the evening. – And the best ones are on Fridays, Saturdays, after 12 AM. – You know that the bandits comes out. And can people come here who are not from here to make trouble? – Like you. You can come and we will receive you as long as you don’t give us problems. – As long as you don’t disrespect us, do you understand me? – Because, if you give me respect and I give you respect, – respect is going to be there, bro. Okay, thanks, bro. – Go for it. – Up, bottom. Cheers. – To the bottom. – More more. – More more. More? – Oh, my mother… – At that door, all day long they’re going to come out Chinese. – Rare Chinese, normal Chinese, all kinds of Chinese. – The building is full of Chinese. I mean, the vast majority, all the buildings here are Chinese. – They are Chinese, because they are new. – Because they are new. – Asians, look. – If you look over there, that store is Chinese. – They have all the Chinese items. That’s an Asian store, The Oriental Lifestyle. – And back there too there’s another store that’s Chinese. – It’s got Chinese ice cream, Chinese noodles. – Anything that’s about Chinese stuff. – Be well. – Tell him about him. – Ivan. – One of the best places you can find in London. Yeah? Why so? – Because you find Hispanic people. – People of Dominican Republic, Colombia, Equatorial Guinea. Equatorial Guinea? – Yeah. Who’s from there? – Me. – The only ones who can speak Spanish. Yeah, for sure. – You can find people from Equatorial Guinea here. – Here can see all the guys. – Mateo, my mate, my man, my girl. – My man too. – Good guys at the end. Guys, they’re surprised by my drinking habilities. – Try this one. Shall I try this one? Okay. – A little drink. – Give it a big gulp, my bro. – It’s good. – Omg… – Here is the first Dominican restaurant. You came straight here, didn’t you? But more than half of the people here have lived in Madrid. – I came here when I was 10 years. – I came here when I was 10 years old. – And in the space opposite, since I was 10 years old. – Hey, I have 3 months here in London, I come from Spain. – I lasted 5 years in Spain. – But I come from a deportation. – And I in that deportation, I lasted 1 year in Colombia and 1 year in Ecuador. – And I was able to come here now to Elephant, to London. – Just arrived. – But we’ve gotten into this, deportations, imprisoned brothers. – A couple of lifeless breadsticks. – But there we go on in life, indeed. – Walking and fighting every day. He’s telling me to get my hood fixed, I need to go to [name of neighborhood] It’s the tough London. – Really, yes, you see people there, a lot of addicts. – There’s everything, really. – And there, what is most used in fights are knives, not fists. – Every person has his knife and they all go around selling, basically. So, if you say you’re from South London, do people look at you differently or not? – When I say I’m from the south, it depends on the area. – Because there are some areas that have problems with them. – And so. All right. Ok, brother, I’ll be right out. I’m going get a a botle for they. "they’re like "yo, drink it drink it". They know me, I can drink a lot. Guys, check it out, everybody got Jay’s. We got some Sixes, some Cherry 12s. You got the Threes. So there’s a night club inside the shopping center over there. And I let my man here tell you the story about it. – Once, one night about 3:40 a.m., around there, – one day some people had come out from the disco some Bolivians, maybe, – Peruvians, maybe, – and the guy had a drunk girl there. – He was kind of taking advantage of her, touching her, groping her. – And we had to get a couple of blows on that guy – to get him to leave the girl. – After we talked to the girl, she said she didn’t remember anything. – That she doesn’t know who she was. – That she was partying with us. – When we didn’t even know her. – So, she was being forced here at Elephant, in the park there. – And we rescued her, and a girl dropped her off at the bus stop – and the girl left. – And we never heard from her again. – But there are too many weird things going on here. – Let’s say, in our countries, in Latin America, there are crazy people. – Of people with crazy minds. – But there are strange people here, strange people. – They have another kind of vice, which is not to put me in other country. – Well, here we are at Elephant with one of the artists – Because, really, you have to hand it to them. – Because they really sing. – The Kobe, and the 78 movement. What is movement 78? – What is movement 78? It’s a thing created in prison, bro. – The brothers were imprisoned. – That was the 7th, a module where I was taken as a troublemaker. – 8 was a module of people who buried goods and I didn’t last there. – I lasted a month and a bit there and I got into a beating with all the enemies. – And they sent me to the 7th, that’s where you represent all that. But are you a rapper here, you have music, you’re an artist? – Sure, one is singing to get out of the street. – So that people will support us and everything, to get out of the street – and get for what one is for now. – To be well, in one’s room. Great, brother, let’s hear something. – Listen to this. [Rapping] – Look at it there. It’s all right. Is that a song of yours or a freestyle? – They’re mine, freestyles of mine. All right, he’s a freestyler right now. – The songs are coming now, I’m sending them to be made, to make a video and everything. And do you have social media where you put your music? – Coby 78, you can look for me on YouTube, and on Instagram too. Okay. – And there’s some nice stuff coming on YouTube. – Nice things are coming with all the brothers. Okay, then. – Dale, brother, thank you. A hug. All right, guys, talent trying to make it out of here at the line quarter, guys. – So, here I am going to tell you. – Here we are with the spiciest one. – He’s more active than the older ones themselves. – Tell him your story. – Always with my bros. – I’m a rapper too, I sing. – And we’re all in here. – On this, you know. – Actually, you don’t need to be in Ecuador. – In Ecuador and Colombia, because I was in Ecuador last year. – Well, I came here 3 months ago, I came from Ecuador. – Seeing the shootings and all that. – Let’s not say that I’ve been shooting, but I’ve lived them, you know what I mean? – Look, this is the boss. – Boss, how are you? – One’s boss, we take care of him. – Nobody can steal him. – Of course. – What do you want? Let’s go buy something. – Do you want something, Carlos? – Whatever you want. – Of course. – Don’t you want anything, Carlos? – You have to be active. – Sure, don’t you want a juice or water? No, I’m fine, I’m just doing the video here. And you, where are you from? – He speaks English. Where are you from? – Me? – Dominican. Dominican? – Yes. All right, dance a merengue. – Well, this one is a crack. – I’ve seen how old people are, like a big people. – You know, with a head. – And he reminds me a lot of me, really, that’s why I’m fond of him. – Four months ago I got out of prison and I had never met him. – Ever since I met him, I liked him a lot. – Good vibes. – At the level of London, at the level of Europe, at the level of Spain, – others are playing Fornite at home, things like that. – Live the street, not delinquency, because we are not criminals. – This is your family. – Everyone here. – We take care of you. – Everyone you see running is family. – We all take care of each other. – Some of us live together. – We are a brotherhood and we take care of each other. – And we really don’t let anyone disrespect us. – It’s like you come now, Carlos, and visit us. – And if someone comes to disrespect you, we’re going to go and hit them. – Because no one is going to come to disrespect you or me. – Because you have taught us how to trust. – When you give us respect, we give you respect. – Like the same respect. – It’s all about respect. – If you come with respect, respect is given to you. – Look, this is like the Bronx, really. – But here in London, here in the UK. – Here you meet people from all over the place. – Look, there are Latin people there. – That bakery is Colombian, really. – Over there are Colombian restaurants. – That’s where the chicken pickers are. – Here I’ve been stuck there for 11 years. Same corner? – Yes, the same corner. – Same corner. – Same corner. – They really know. – The partners. – The Bronx, do you see when you stop in the Bronx and there are Latinos on a corner? – Drinking and stuff. Here you have the same thing, in London. – Of course, the Colombians, this is the corner of the Colombians. – The gentlemen. – Already large generation. – Gentlemen of much respect. The OG’s. – Yes, now we go to the bars. Come on, let’s go. And here they sell great burgers too. – Good hamburgers. – Here it is. I recommend the burgers here, bro. – The best burgers there can be. – You know, at Elephant. – We’re going to the bars. The day goes on, guys. It’s about 5:00 p.m. now, maybe almost 6 PM. People getting out of work, so they start setting up, just like any area in Latin America, all these videos you see of me in South America running around and you see just people on the street they bring that side of the culture over here. And it is living it up over here in London. – Look at the Chinese. – She is a friend of mine. – She is a best friend in 2020 times, you know what I mean? – And it’s already 2024. – These are the Chinese. Good! – Look how the police patrol is doing. – Say, if a problem happens now, – the police are going to come after half an hour. – Even, 1 hour. – Ambulance comes after 40 minutes. – If the police come in half an hour… – It’s true, events like this happen. – Look at the buses. – These are the bars where the sharpshooters are. – Let’s say this is Dominican alley. – The real shysters here. – Chicken, look, the Colombian bakery. – The pandebono, the fritters, things like that. – Yummy things. – And this is where they close the dancers until 12 o’clock. At night, this is something else here. – Yes, let’s say until 12 o’clock. After 12 o’clock, – we have to go to another discotheque, somewhere else, beyond. – But here it is until 12 AM. – You see all kinds of people here, Latinos. – Eating, and everything. – Look, this is a Dominican restaurant. – Dominican restaurant here. – Picapollo there. – We’re going in. Come on, camera. All right, this is closed early. And now is open. The Venezuelan shop is next door. So this the Dominican bar lounge. So, this is your uncle? – Of course he is. Okay. – As you know, these are the Dominican restaurants. – And the Dominican bars. – Where the tigers are here at night. – Saturdays, Fridays. – What time is it? – It’s 6 PM now. – Right now there’s no one there and it’s Wednesday. – Right now there is no one. – But on a Saturday, a Friday after 9 o’clock. This is active. – Restaurant ‘Los Chamos’. I was there, I ate there this afternoon. – You ate here? Yes. – Very good. – Restaurant ‘Los Chamos’. – I don’t know where the chamos are, let’s go here too. – Is the food good there? Yes. – I haven’t really been to lunch. But if you say it’s good, it’s good. – This is Ecuadorian, this is from here. – Here they ended up with a bro, really. They did? – Yes, they did. In or out? – Yes, inside. But they removed the picture that was there. – But, actually, there… And what happened? How did it happen? – Some people came with a motorcycle, they got off. – And like the guy was going to run backwards. – Like he was going to run backwards, he just hit it once and it happened. – He stabbed him. – He did that, rode off on the bike and left. – And they never caught him. – And this is the bar they all come to. – This is the first Dominican restaurant. – You see here the chiperos, the tarjeteros, the Dominicans with gold chains. – With gold chains, here they are. – It is closed. – It is closed. Do they open at night? – Look. – Yes, there’s nothing right now. – It’s closed, that’s why we don’t show it to you. – But that’s a movie up there. They have a poster of El Alfa, it’s a Dominican reggaeton artist. – That’s the bar people’s bar on the weekends. – Really, you come here and you won’t even be able to get in. – Sure, here, after 9-10 PM, you have to line up here. – And the guard tells you "full full". And they don’t let any more in? – It’s closed today. – See? The lady says it’s closed. – They’re closed on Wednesdays. – And here is this discotheque, which I think it’s really Colombian. – Yes, it’s Colombian. – It’s Colombian. Is she Colombian? – And, let’s say, here the Dominicans come in and dance. – And here, the Colombians. And then they come out here and they get together. – Likewise, and there’s no problem, there’s nothing. – Because we are the same, Latinos, Latino blood. – You know what I mean? We get along. – And we don’t know each other, but we get along. – Let’s say that this is the dancing part, the partying part. – And there, the food part. – Of the food. – Let’s go. And she, is she from here? Excuse me, are you from over here? – Yeah. Have you seen this at night like on a Friday-Saturday? They’re telling me that it gets really packed and it’s a nice party. – Yeah, it’s really really busy. Yeah? – Yeah, it’s good. All right. Checks out. – Now, yes, let’s get these people singing. [Rapping] Are they pit bulls or bullies? Are they pit bulls or bullies? – No, they are not bullies. Pitbull? – Rottweiler. Rottweiler? How much does one of these doggies cost here? How much does one of these puppies cost? – I have them at 500 GBP, because they are already 10 weeks old. So 500 GBP, like 600 USD. For one of these boys. Two and a half weeks. For 600 USD you can get a little puppy here and support his hustle. – Do you know how much those shoes are worth? Which ones? – Those. Oh, he’s talking about my shoes, guys, the Threes. All of you too. Everybody has Jay’s on. Does that gentleman know you from childhood? – That gentleman who was talking with me has known me for a long time. – As a kid, really. – He gave me a lot of advice. – Because he was telling me to get hooked on something. – Because he knew someone who was building these buildings. – And he said to me "get on with it". – And, look, now, actually, they’re building and stuff. – And he just told me right now. – But I was in jail, I didn’t know anything about it. – But now he just told me "look". – If I had gotten into that, I’d be all right now, really. With all these buildings. – Right. Look at all the stuff they’re building. – None of it was. None of these tall buildings? They were all short. – Look, if I show you a video to you of what the square was like before, – you will be surprised. And this, was it here too? These tents. – No, this was all clean. – There was nothing. – It was like an empty lot. – Just like that. Is more empty now we got a little shop, there is a Jamaican store here. Clothing stores, – This was Elephant before. – This is Elephant where we’re standing right now. – Down there, that’s it. – Look. That is, there was nothing. – Nothing. – Clean, yes. – The whole square, nothing else. – That was us before. – This was a long time ago, actually. – This is a topic I’m about to bring up. [Rapping] Hello, man. What’s up, bro? – Yeah… – This people is asking you that you are using your camera. – They say "not allowed to take any picture here" Who? – Operation. The people who is sitting in the country room. – They’re asking me that "the guy is using video camera *blah blah blah*" – What a complain… Exactly. – Yeah. – Anyway, you take back your camera inside back, then they will keep off. All right. – If you don’t use your brain, you rather will make you look… – This is a public space, man. It’s a public space exactly. – Yeah! How can they complain about it then? – They said "this is private property, they not allow bicycling, balling, alcohol…" – The thing is if you want to make it private, you fence it. Exactly, that’s private. And then, you own the whole space and only you or whoever you decide can go in it. – I mean, what’s this place for? It’s a public place for people to gather… – Exactly! Hang out and socialize. – Me, as a police, can’t take people off from here. "I’m telling you, police" They know the law…? Exactly. So who is that complaining? The stores in the front? – No the stores, he’s in our control rooms and… – You just put your camera in the back, then, they will stop. They’ll be happy for…? – Yeah, please. All right, let’s put the camera away for a little bit and then, all good. – Let’s say my girlfriend is rapping and I tell her "I’m your B". – Who’s your B? Who do you have to pass it to? To me. – And everyone starts yelling at me "I’m your B!" Like when I have one in my hand and I’m tired of smoking. – And I say "who smokes?" – The cougar. – In this case, I’m the C, just in case. – The first one to tell me "the cougar", I’m going to pass it on to him. – And I’m also going to explain something to you. – When he is enrolling it and he says ‘espi’, it means ‘second’ – No, in London in general, whoever enrolls, turns him on. – The one who rolls it up, turns it on. I think it’s worldwide. – Sure, it’s worldwide. – If you shout ‘espi’, you’re already second. – And if you say ‘tipi’, the third. – That’s how it is. – Different ways. Okay, okay. – We are not that. – Because what’s yours is mine, what’s mine is yours. – Of course, we don’t need to do that. – Let’s say we walk for free in London. – Sure, we ride for free. – Look at all the herd coming in. – Excuse me, bro, can I come in? Thank you. – Thank you, bro. – Or call the police right there. – Look, he’s already closed the door. – As I was telling you, Carlos… – I can tell you that here, let’s say, a day, one spends 20 GBP a day. – 30 GBP a day, walking by subway and bus. – That in one’s own country, I go there and back for 1 USD. – In my country. – And here, let’s say, with 5-6 GBP you can only go to two stops. – So, we sneak in. – Because, really, we’re not in the situation to spend 5 GBP here in two stops. – That’s an abuse, really. – Of course it is. – Because you always take the bus. – And, in fact, we do it successively. – We go and come back. – And, indeed, they have already made friends with us. – While we ask them nicely, – we say "sorry, can we come in?" – He lets us pass. – You hit these buttons when you have to go down fast. So, you press that button and it’s like emergency descent. – Right, and then the door opens. – When the driver doesn’t want to open, you have to open it the hard way. – Because otherwise the stop is far away. – Right now it’s going to last about 5-10 minutes standing there. This over here is government housing. I’m about to take you inside the blocks, that’s what they call them here. – Record this. – Close that. – Let him close the door. What an adventure, guys. Do they call him ‘rouch’ here too? – Actually, I smoke only that brand. – For people who people who don’t speak English, it’s the filter. – The cardboard. – That’s not smoked. We call what’s left ‘rouch’. – Here it’s the same thing, ‘rouch’, as in what ends. – You have to watch this at night here. – All of London. – Very nice everything, look at the views. – The views. Check out London. Where is the London Eye, more or less? – About that way. To the left. – Like for the left. What a view of the city. – Look, that way. – Look over here. – This is an apartment of mine, but right now I have it closed. – This is an apartment, really. Let’s show you another one. – Because, really, I don’t have the keys here right now. – Let’s go to the other floors. – This is a superabandoned apartment. – Basically, that’s the party floor. – For the parties. – And so on. – But we are going to show you the apartments that are ours. – Which are for us to meet there and that no one bothers us. – If you notice, all the floors are closed by metal doors. Is this a door here? – Yes, metal. And why is it like that? – It’s like this because they’ve found people inside. – All these buildings are going to be torn down to make new ones. – That’s why they’re closing it like this. – When people are already moving out, they close it like this so that nobody gets in. – Because there are a lot of crackers here. – Who break in and go into the apartments and stuff. – I had a block but it got shut down by the police. – They put bricks all over me. – They were robbing, they were… – Look, this is one of our blocks. Ah, this was closed and sealed but… – We opened it. They opened it. – Of course we did. – These are secret blocks, practically. – Enter. Guys, about to go inside the ‘bloque’ here. You can’t open the door all the way. It’s just kind of open. And these are basically, abandoned apartments. Like they said, they’re gonna take them down and when the people move out, they close them. – This, practically, is broken. – Look, that’s how some of them are, that we can’t see. – If any one has no light, for some that hath light. – Because we provide the light. – You put the light on it and everything. – We’ve got electrician and everything here. They even board up the windows and everything. – Of course, they cover it up so that they don’t get inside, let’s say. – Because this is glass. – It is glass. – Look at the kitchens, they move everything around, take everything out. – They pull the carpet out, all this has carpet in it. – They take away the carpet and everything, because it’s going to be demolished. – Right. – All this. – That’s why it’s like this. Look. – That’s easy. Look how they lift it. – Already the sheet metal is bent. – And if one breaks, it does what it wants. – That’s why they put the cans on it, because these are balconies. – And so that people don’t go through the balconies. Of course. – And because they can get in from the other house. – So, let’s see another one. – Let’s see another one. – Look at the views here. – The views. – The tremendous view we have. – The window opens. – Carlos, but let me tell you this is the penthhouse of us. This is the PH. – One thing: you don’t do this because you want to. – It’s trying to survive. – Because, in life, if you survive, you’re okay. – Not like other people who steal. – The thing is to get it yourself. – Just like that. – Others use women. – We, the one who does that, we beat him. – Look, the one who is abus*r, we kill him. – The rich, with money, feel good. – We, surviving, feel good. – The one who abus*s, we hit him hard. – We are not looking for what everyone is looking for, money. – One does not complain no matter how much you sleep on a floor there. – A roof is a roof. – You have to survive. – Of course. – Let’s see another one. – Let’s see another block. And the water, it doesn’t get here. Do they take the water away from them too? – It depends. Ah, there’s water there. – Some come with lights, with everything. – It’s just that some of them are from the government. These are, basically government houses. That they taken over. They seal them up when the people move out. And then, basically, they seal them up… – Hey, don’t come. You don’t know around here. – We’ll see you and… – Carlos, as the phrase goes: "the rich man needs a lot of patience to live, – and the poor, to be alive, a good resistance". – This is a high and this is a low. – Like down, and then up. – Look, Carlos. The door broke… The door broke… – One cleans all this up. – They put it right. So, they call this ‘low’. Because it has no stairs. – You don’t have to climb stairs. – And it’s bigger, it’s got two bedrooms, it’s got a living room. – These blocks you see them like this. – But some of them you find with new carpets, new everything. – But these are like this because they’re going to demolish them. – Here, one doesn’t even live, really. – Let’s just say it’s very cold outside, – and you don’t want to stand in a park. – And we say "hey, come on." We help each other. – Or let’s say we come here to listen music for a while, play cards. – Those who smoke, smoke, so as not to be cold out there. – Because now in December-November, it’s a cold where nobody stays in the square… Brutal. In the rain, too. – You have to survive. – On the other side of London. That’s south there? That way is south. – Look, we were there. Elephant is right over there. And now, the door… – There are people. – People are coming. – Let’s go. – Who’s coming? – There was a gentleman. – Let’s go. – That’s why we wanted to show you about the blocks, Carlos. – This is for survival. – Because, for example, if we are in the street, we die of cold. – Here it’s very cold. – And if we don’t have a house to live in, who will give us a hand? – No one, really. – That’s why one has to do this. – We know we’re doing something wrong, but we have to do it. – Those are guys’ houses that open. – For friends who don’t have resources, let’s say, who don’t have a place to live. Of course. – And you can’t help them either. – Because one is not in the situation. – We can help them, giving them a house to sleep in. – And you know that food is negotiated day by day. – And things like that. – Today, we have to cover today. – We can no longer save for tomorrow. – Because tomorrow is another day that we have to fight too. Survive. – Such is our day, indeed. – Day by day. – Everyone comes from below and climbs upwards. – Because, let’s say, there are people who have their moms and their dads and their brothers. – And these are my brothers. – And I have a very big brotherhood… – We love you, brother. – These are, let’s say, my mom, my parents, my grandparents. – And look what you’re seeing. – We’re seeing people, let’s say… – And don’t think it’s only men. – Because there are also women. – Of course there are. – There are also women. – We pull it to the middle. So, there are still people living paying their rent but the government is waiting for them to move? – Practically, the government is telling them that they have to move for a while – so that they can get them a house. – For them to pay the same amount they were paying on this house. – In this house. – But these people don’t want to move to a new house. – Of course. – Because they are more expensive. – They spent all their lives too. – Of course, they are people who have been living here for a long time. – Like I say, I’ve been here for 11 years too. – Not just Elephant, I grew up around these blocks, really. – So, I’ve seen these people here a long time ago. – And also, for them to come and take out people like this to send them to another place, – who knows where… These are government buildings. – Yes, it’s government. Cheaper than it is…? – Practically, they were made in the war. How much is a lease here, more or less? – No, they are expensive here. – A room can cost you 700-800 GBP. – One room. – I would pay for a whole flat, 1000 GBP. – As I said, it’s too expensive here. – Yes, it is. Okay. – Carlos, tell him if we treated you badly. Huh? – Tell him if we’ve treated you badly. – There is respect here. – Dominican Republic. What’s up, bro? – We went to show him the blocks. – What country are you from? – Dominican Republic. – From where? – Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic? My mother got Spanish grandmother. Yeah, and my mom is Spanish citizen because she had business VISA. And you’re from here. – They all speak Spanish. – If I put me with you for one hour, I’ll be back… [Talking] For one hour, right? – Now I am but original, I’m from Surrey Quays. Do you know Surrey Quays? – Yeah. – Before it was very nice… – After the street, please don’t record. – Look how they come out. So, those two over there are junkies. – A lot of junkies living here, really. – Junkies everywhere. – But they are like us, in truth, surviving. – Because they are like us, they are surviving. – It’s surviving on a day-to-day basis. – What can I tell you, brother. We’re on the street. – And if you’re on the street, you have to fight day by day. – But it is not that the street is for everybody. – Because I have seen people who have tried to live on the street and had to go back to their mother. – We make money every day, anyway, in different ways. – But we do. All right, guys, that’s it so along from Elephant & Castle. A Latin neighborhood right here in London. I like it.

As a Dominican living in 🇺🇸 who’s got a college education and an overall good life, I apologize London for this people featured here. I promise if you go to Dominican Republic you will meet the best of us. Unfortunately these kids Immigrating to your country are the lowest of the low. Do yourselves a favor and send them home. They will never assimilate, they will never learn proper English and they sure are not going to educate themselves or learn a trade. What an embarrassment.
Video started out great. then went ghetto real fast with the thugs. He should have edit most of that out. But, not every video can be a home run.
Why don't captions work
Thugs from london lol
Bro witnessed a crime in London 😂
Remember…..(.for young and naive).the part of america this influencer is forcing on you is not as it seems. It is a grave decision to follow this guys footsteps. It is never going to be like what he experienced…..watch "obi laand" and other channels that talk abour safety before you decide. Also, they will blame the victim, saying the victim naive and was flashing money n stuff in a poor country .Just have a think…..in india or any asian country, you can meet REAL poor….but they dont resort to these kind of stuff…..why?

I lived in Boston and Miami. Life in the US is way too difficult. I used to work 100 hours a week to make ends meet. Another major problem in the US is health care. If you become ill you have to own a bank to pay the bills. My life took a complete turn since l moved to Europe. I have a much better quality of life. I travel all over Europe very cheaply. I can go to the Doctor without having to worry about money. Latinos should forget about the United States
this kids…😂
Carlos this video was underwhelming.
The owner of the restaurant at 1:01:11 looked like she walked to let those wannabes know they aren’t welcome at here place. On a Wednesday and just hanging out why aren’t they working

How did these wee gang bums get here? Sitting about all day drinking and no doubt robbing/attacking good people? We're an island nation…. How did they get in?
Sad to see some of the comments from people on here. These young kids are like any other kids their age. They will make mistakes and learn. Some will not. The judgment being passed is sickening. Just because a kid is raised with stable home and money or whatever, sometimes those kids are WORSE than the “thugs” y’all criticizing. They were loud at times but were rapping and dancing. Were they attacking anyone? Were they disrespecting anyone? I’ve seen London folk leaving pubs or futball matches acting twenty times worse and starting fights. Carlos showed a reality of EVERY country. If I didn’t know this was a London video I would have thought those kids were in any hood in U.S. in the projects. It’s all the same. But those kids also told you how they helped a young girl getting taken advantage of. They showed you the local grocery store owner who was cool with them. They explained their struggles and shared how they stick together trying to help each other in any way. People mocking the abandoned apts but when it’s cold and rainy and they need somewhere to sleep or just stay, they make do and SURVIVE. People need to stop passing judgment so quickly. Anyone came end up in their situation, as an adult with a stable upbringing and employment. These travel videos all show same thing all over the world and that is the economy is hurting EVERYONE EVERYWHERE and regardless of that, gentrification is happening all over the place. Troubles are no different from U.S. to London to anywhere in world. I enjoyed the video Carlos and appreciate the time n energy you put into it. Maybe you inspired one of these kids or all of them to pick up camera, travel and talk to the locals and make a living. Well done!👍
If you continue importing the 3rd world into your country, eventually your country will become the 3rd world!
