This is how it looks like after adding the mustard and sauce it came with and mixing it. Has it gone bad?

  1. It will taste like it’s gone bad, but that’s just natto.

It looks fine. It’s generally meant to be a rice topping or ingredient rather than a solo dish. I like it with nori and sliced negi (scallions) myself.

Also, depending on where you are, it might have a stronger smell than natto purchased in Japan. It has to be imported, and therefore the fermenting gases concentrate a bit. It’s perfectly fine, though.

    Looks fine, quite normal!

We often eat it with a raw egg, but I know Americans and Europeans aren’t accustomed to that. Well, American eggs aren’t safe to eat raw so don’t do it lol

Eat it with nori, or sprinkle some furikake, over rice! Hope you like it xoxo

I want to hear what you think. I’m of Japanese ethnicity and a pretty adventurous eater. I’ve been chicken shit to try it though. Others have suggested furikake, scallions, and a raw egg over rice.

  5. As others have said, looks absolutely fine!
You can definitely see when it’s gone bad. It hardens up and is very hard to stir.
