oh my gosh that hits the spot there are endless restaurants in Tokyo but recently there is another way that you can get food in Tokyo that is becoming increasingly common and that is food trucks so today I’m going to be checking out some food trucks in Tokyo that are raising the bar for what you can get while on the go in busy Tokyo before we go don’t forget to subscribe for more Japan adventures all right let’s go find some food trucks [Music] today I in toyosu which is where the new fish market is located having moved from tsukiji to toyosu in 2018 so it’s bringing lots of local chefs from Tokyo to toyosu to get their fresh fish for their restaurants for the day so naturally my first food truck I’m visiting is very on theme so let’s go see what it is come on here we are this is Sushi Saki gake it’s a food truck that sells Sushi I’ve never seen that before and the owner is only 25 years old and he keeps really busy going to a different location with his food truck every single day so I’m really excited to have a chat with him today and try his fresh sushi out of a food [Music] truck for I’m really interested cuz I saw a picture over there of their so I think I might try one of those and an Omak five pieces all right so you’re able to eat here if you want to but it’s actually a beautiful day and there’s a really great park right here so I’m going to eat under the cherry blossoms so let’s go over there and enjoy our Sushi it is so beautiful out today and the cherry blossoms are still here although they’re falling but that’s also really pretty too because when the wind blows the cherry blossoms blow as well so what better place to enjoy my food truck sushi I’m so excited let’s open up the omaka sushi that looks amazing so what the chef recommends for eating out you get this little tiny bottle of soy sauce so what he recommends is to put like about one drop of soy sauce on top of your sushi all right so let’s give it a try I’m going to start with the first one which I believe he said was the Mago you m oh that’s so good the tuna it’s got of a lot of Mommy to it and the rice I’m pretty sure it’s a red vinegar that’s soaked in it so you get a little bit more richness to the flavor of the vinegar let’s try the next one this is the kohada m that fish is so well marinated it’s marinated in salt so you get this salty and a little bit sour taste from the fish which is very traditional in old-fashioned Japanese sushi let’s try the next one I think he said this one was the red snap M this one I can taste the Wasabi in it it’s a very delicate white meat fish you don’t get a lot of additional natural flavor from the fish so the seasonings actually really stand out okay now it’s time to try my b chashi m that is flavorful all of the pieces of fish you don’t need to put any soy sauce on it cuz it’s all been kind of marinated in a little bit of a sweet and salty sauce and the fish are all so tender and juicy it’s really good really nice addition to the texture are the crunchy pieces of pickled radish they give this really satisfying crunch if you guys want to check out Sushi Saki gake you can actually follow their Instagram where Kobayashi San posts his weekly schedule of where he will be every day so go check it out and try his fresh sushi at the food truck but I’m going to finish this off and then I’m going to head to a sort of food truck Park where lots of food trucks are gathered and I’ll see what kind of food trucks are available in Tokyo so I’ll see you guys over [Music] there I have just arrived in udak Cho at a food truck park that’s located right beside udra station behind a building called the Tokyo International Forum building and this food truck park opens up every day at lunchtime if you want to find them they’re actually called kitchen cars in Japanese and today I’m going to be checking out these kitchen cars and seeing what kind of foods I can try and I’m going to get a bunch and we’ll taste them all so let’s go take a look this is tacu it’s kind of a fusion of Mexican Cuisine with tacos and rice I think I’m going to try one of these [Music] I [Music] hi that looks so good look at this it is filled with what looks like tashu pork coriander and peanuts that looks incredible and I’ve got my apple cider if any of you are from Taiwan and you’ve tried this before let me know I’m excited to try I’m going to bring this to my other food this looks really interesting it says save the farm [Music] so now I’ve got my food I’ve got three different foods from three different kitchen cars I’m very excited to give it a try and I’m really thirsty so I want to start with this one I’m going to try my Apple [Music] cidra ooh that’s quite sweet it’s kind of almost syrupy tasting thirst is quenched let’s try some food ooh that looks very good M that is so meaty oh my gosh it’s kind of like a barbecue style sweet and salty seasoning on the pork the bun is really fluffy and I love the accent of the coriander M what is that it’s a security robot is this supposed to protect me from something next I’m going to try the taco rice M that is really good it’s so cheesy there’s lots of ground meat in kind of like a meaty sauce almost like a bologan sauce on top and I love the crisp lettuce it really really adds satisfying crisp crunch every time you take a bite now let’s dig into the on [Music] Santo M yum the egg adds so much creaminess it balances so well with that kind of saltiness of the meat sauce finally we’re going to try the vegan [Music] curry M there’s a little kick of spice in there it’s also kind of on the sweet side and you can really taste the tomatoes in the curry too that is really good come check it out if you guys are in the area but I have another food truck that I want to check out today so I’ll finish this off and I’ll see you guys at the next place see you [Music] there Tokyo is not a city that’s well known for its Latin American food but there is a food truck that’s trying to change that so my next food truck is a Mexican food truck and it’s located in the back street of shiya and I’m right in the middle of shiya Crossing as you can see and probably the lights are going to change soon so let’s go find the food truck let’s [Music] go it looks like I’m here I think this is the food truck stand hello how’s it going welcome hi nice to meet you are you hyen yes I’m hyen nice to meet you too nice to meet you this is your food truck yeah this is a food truck la cabina la cabina the best Mexican food in the food truck started when I wanted to start my own business but the idea of SEL tacos start long time ago when I arrived to Japan people always ask me where I am from so I always answer from Mexico and I’m a chef and they automatically recommend me a good Mexican food can come to my place I can cook some food and that’s how I start uh to realize the Japanese people love mexan food we have uh six different kind of toppings my favorite is carnitas fish taco and alpastor I think I’d like to try all three of them actually would you like to have a beer or a soft drink for that I might as well try a beer we’re here at a craft beer shop oh thank you this place is so stylish what a cool craft beer bar oh thank you very much oh my gosh and you said 20 Taps yes 20 Taps the one with the tacos it goes well with to pair with the foot yeah earlier they were recommending you the two collaboration beard then which also I think the number 19 okay it goes well with old than you okay I think I’m going to try that this looks so good a brimming glass of craft beer let’s go get some tacos to go with it all right I’m now back out at the food truck Haim is getting started on the tacos I’m so excited but while I’m waiting I’m going to enjoy a cold glass of [Music] beer wo that is an explosion of flavor it’s got that citrusy kind of sour taste right off the bat and then you get the dill after taste really good little bit sour super refreshing there you go so you have here alastor Carnitas and fish tacos oh my gosh that looks so good thank you so much then we have three different kind of spices uh you have a mild medium and a spicy here okay let’s give this a try I’m so so excited that looks incredible so let’s start with the fish one oh my gosh that hits the spot it’s got really fluffy fish meat lots of crunch from the onions the vegetables this one is the mild sauce as well so it’s really easy to eat all right we’re going to try the next one this is the cardinas and I chose the medium spice [Music] M wow that is so meaty it’s actually like Smokey a little bit salty and a little hint of Sweetness in the seasoning on the meat it’s almost like a cold pork kind of thing and it goes really well with that Medium spiced sauce with the guacamole kind all right now it’s time to try the last Taco which is the El Pastor it’s got pineapple and pork in [Music] it m [Music] M the pork is really flavorful but it does have a totally different seasoning from the last one and the pineapple adds this little sweet kick at the end which I love well I’ve just finished up my tacos they were all incredible I had a lot of fun today exploring the food truck scene in Tokyo so definitely check them out if you’re in the city and please let me know in the comments which food truck most piqued your interest that I’ve visited 1. gotta love good food… from a truck… amazing what half a size from a typical restaurant kitchen can do.. providing amazing food… good to see western food options while incorporating Japanese ingredient and taste. definitely need more street food and more night markets in Tokyo.
