30 min. from Tokyo. Day Trip Guide to Kawagoe.

Kawagoe is a good day trip destination from Tokyo for travelers from abroad. It’s only 30 min. by train, and you see historic temples, shrines and old town. In Kawagoe, you can also enjoy eating street foods and buy little souvenirs.

kagy is a historic town located in the northwest of Tokyo that you can go alive only 30 minutes by train from Tokyo ibukuro terminal Caro is a popular day trip destination from Tokyo and you can see a history Commercial Street and enjoy the trace of old P of Tokyo which you cannot see much in Tokyo anymore and peaceful temples and shrines so today I’d like to take you to kway so you can do the same travel as me or better than me there are three train lines going to caroy from Tokyo One Go directly from jyo line going directly from Tokyo’s major spots like shya Shinu Ando but it goes around so it takes time another way is probably the most common rout to too line fromo terminal it takes you to Caro in less than 30 minutes to also has terminal in asakusa but train to Caro doesn’t leave from Asaka it’s ikuko there are also direct train from Tokyo toy line going through Subways and run to car but my favorite way to return to Shinjuku is save Shinjuku line they have a limited expess called Koo with and with 500 so the seat charge you can come back with comfortable reserved seat eating and drinking what you bought in K so depends on where you are staying in Tokyo you can decide the convenient route today let’s take to Tojo line which is the f passage throughoute to caroy for now this is caroy station if you are expecting old historic town you might be surprised how everything is modern caroy has two major stations caroy stations of Jr and to and home cargo stations of sa caroy sing spots are located in the north of Hong caroy station and you can either take a bus or walk through the commercial streets called C mall that endless shops and places to eat continue There are three quad of sseeing areas all in walking distance one is the main part of the caroy ichibangai area along the major Street there are shops with traditional Merchant houses called kukuri second is kit area there are similar temples and shrines gathering in this area third is Museum and Castle area the castle is not what you imagining as a castle but you can see some traditional buildings and Museum shows how old caroy looked like near the area there is a hikawa shrine known for good spots to make your wish for relationship come true it’s all in walking distance and Caro is close to Tokyo so you can jump on train and casually visit but many stores are closing at around 4 or 5:00 p.m. so you might want to arrive there before noon if you like to look around well in case you have mobility issue or cannot walk WR you can also skip this walking and take a bus to the Old Town from the East exit of cargo station you can purchase 12 bus one day pass for 400 again at the tourism information office in front of to lines gate you can also purchase online from the app of Japan transit ticket section you can also get on the bus with icy card like sua in case you take Eagle bus which is a sseeing bus you can take it from West exit of cargo station it’s not running often so I recommend to check the time table before you visit another idea is to rent a bicycle hoc cycling should work with the foreign Travelers too without phone number in Japan but car might not be the best place for the bicycle because it was difficult to find a place to park the bicycle and also there are many ports that you can return the bicycle let’s walk to the old town if you go through this AR building a long Commercial Street called C Mall starts if you are walking here you are automatically taken to the old town you can see tons of shops and places to eat so if you are hungry on the way you can eat something maybe on the street there’s a department store called maruo which is a local department store based in kago on the way to the Old Town there’s another station called H Caro station which is a station of sa shinj from here you can go directly to sa shuku station right next to kabuko in Tokyo as you you walk you start to see old buildings and you’ll find Kar Kar is the old sake Factory that were abandoned and renovated to the svenia shops sake shops and restaurants this is entrance to the old town and also the last stop in case you miss to purchase Sven the interesting part of caroy is that town will gradually shift to the old town as you walk away from cargo station on this traffic light The Cho route separates to two one Contin to the old town and one going to the kit Temple and other temples let’s save it for later and continue to the Old Town the streets continue to the TA Roma you Street Tao is the name of the era and this street has lots of building that are built in Tao aand around that time so in Japan we use imperal ear which changes as 10 no Emperor changes and after Edo is Shifting to Mai Tao shwa H and current Rea so you see lots of these names in the places and on this street you see Kumo Shrine it’s a small Shrine but it’s always busy with people pring and there actually there lots of things to see inside you can walk on the lock to check if you’re healthy you can throw ring and play and tell your fortune you can wash your coins to wish for financial success it’s a fun place to drop by on the way to the Old Town of caroy and now finally the oown area you may notice many black building with big roof it’s a construction called kazuri which is made fire resistant these buildings are constructed in Mage period and you could see in many other cities too but most of them are demolished and not left anymore what makes cargo unique is its historical reservation offering a glimpse into Tokyo’s old days Edo when rail companies tried to make a route to kaway the station was built away from the city center also separate to two locations it is said is influenced by the local Merchants trying to prevent the local Shoppers to go to Tokyo instead of caroy as a result while the station that thed the all town was forgotten while all town of other cities were redeveloped to new buildings I remember when I was a kid I walked this old town with my father but it was really shabby quiet town but now Caro is a more TR spot that you can enjoy the Old Town scenery and also street food and sweets every time I come here new stores are opening and very surprised and excited 10% of me is a littleit mystery all times so the only problem is that the K this Main Street is facing the the major traffic so it has been a problem for 20 30 years but it has never changed so I think they won’t change it’s also a town lot of people live so I think that’s something you want want to be careful when you walk here for this day I had a lunch at this restaurant called ring hiding behind the coffee shop they are focusing on Sushi it’s not Samson Caro’s famous for but it’s in a nice quiet environment to have a lunch Caro is famous for year and sweet potato called Sato in Japanese as Caro had a big large field around the town and it had a water can to Tokyo it was perfect place to raise and carry sweet potatoes which was very heavy vegetable to carry so it was perfect to have water can so you see tons of places with sweet potatoes in caroy something I see pretty often sweet called imoko it was Yen and you can eat a hot one there’s a big sweet potato inside better than I thought if you like to eat more sweets let’s go to Kasia yokoo Kash yokoo is a popular Street it’s a short street that you see a small confectionary stores Gathering it’s not a Long Street soore it’s not something you beat with big expectation but there’s my favorite spot right behind this alley and this is a little bridge over the river I I feel something very nostalgic here and the scenary really hasn’t changed Tre [Music] here and there are lots of retro and modern coffee shops in kagy but the place with the most busy place is this Starbucks the store is one of the similar Japanese style Starbucks shops in Japan and many caroy tradition is used in the interior and it has a little Japanese Garden in backyard so you can relax with the taste that you used to but still you can enjoy the atmosphere of caroy now it’s time to look for souveniers on the back street there is a soy sauce factory called matumoto soy sauce on the weekend they have a quick tour of soy sauce factory it has an interesting fermented smell of soy sauce Sania I got this hatar soy sauce hcar means Caro Castle so recently soy sauce is made very quickly but this one took one or two years to make this soy sauce here let’s look into the temples and shrines in caroy the temples you see in Caro is something a little more countryside local feeling unlike big sophisticated image of temples like in Kamakura or Kyoto one major temple in Caro is kit Temple so they moved the building from ET Castle to this caroy so but now the OC Castle doesn’t exist anymore but that’s why uh the something you cannot see anymore in Tokyo you can see in this caroy that’s why this K is National Heritage around kit Temple there are three different Temple and shrines too one is nak Temple and another one s which in shrin and also n n this is Cowboys B nasan Temple the main one is in Narita near n [Music] [Music] airport if you like to stay overnight and take your time in caroy caroy also has some hotels there’s also major hotel called caroy Prince Hotel on H caroy station and cargo to Hotel some of the hotels you can find for much more reasonable price than hotels in Tokyo so now it’s time to go back to [Music] Tokyo if I’m asked which is better to visit KY or Kamakura was the first time visit to Japan probably I will answer Kamakura Kamakura has more nature mountains and ocean and lots of temples that you cannot see everything in the day but if you like more easygo day trip or if you have been to Kamakura K is a fun place to visit thank you for watching have a great trip to Japan have a great week until the next video

  1. Fantastic video as always Kenchan! I might visit Kawagoe when I'm in Japan later this year, it's between that and Nikko atm!

  2. Thank you for teaching us Westerners that there's more to Japan than Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka! ๐Ÿ˜

  3. Thank you very much for another great video Kengo ! I have to admit that I have never heard of Kawagoe before. It looks really lovely. I am starting to plan our 4th trip to Japan (in March 2025), where will go to Tohoku. We also want to see new things in Tokyo, and maybe stay 2 nights in a place near Tokyo. For this, I am considering Yokohama, Kamakura, Nikko and now also Kawagoe. I have been to many places in Japan (some of them not very touristy), but to none of those places. I know that all are very different. I think that Nikko is too touristy for me, and that I would enjoy Yokohama (mainly for the cup noodle museum and the huge chinatown) and Kamakura (for the temples and shrines, and the seaside location). If you had to choose, which of those would you choose, and why ? Also, is it worth going on a day trip to Kawagoe (we are staying in Shinjuku) ? It looks lovely, but not really different from other places I have visited in Japan.

  4. Kengo-San, thank you for sharing. It's not a place that would have otherwise been on my radar but looks like it is definitely worth a day trip out from Tokyo ๐Ÿ‘

And the soy sauce looks like a good gift to take home!

  5. Kengosan, that was a really nice video. Never knew about this town but will definitely add to my list of towns to visit. Arigato!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿฅท๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿ

  6. Another fantastic video! The production quality keeps improving. Helpful graphics. Sound levels are smooth. Excellent camera angles. (^.-) Soon Toho Co Ltd will be calling you! (^.-) Years ago, I worked in Kawagoe at the Amazon Fulfillment Center. This location is for fashion (clothing, shoes, accessories). Because I was there for work I NEVER got to see Kawagoe. After watching your video I want to return and just enjoy (no work!). Therefore… I'm sending thanks. (^.^) ใŠใคใ‹ใ‚Œใ•ใพใงใ—ใŸใ€‚
