The highest peak of Mt. Rokko reaches 931 m above sea level and refers to the entire Rokko mountain range stretching from the west to the north of Kobe City. The Rokko mountain range is dotted with rock formations of various sizes, and there are many megaliths that point to the east, west, south, north, and south. There are also traces of knowledge of ancient civilizations in various places, including Mount Kintori, where Satsuki Narazaki is said to have copied the Takamuna literature. From the top of Mt. Rokko, one can see the entire city of Kobe from east to west, and Osaka, Sennan, and even Awaji Island spread out before one’s eyes. One of the scenic spots beloved by locals and climbers is Tengu Iwa.
I captured the view for the first time when I visited Rokko on the winter solstice of 2022 as part of Nature Good Mode. At that time, the area was shrouded in a deep fog that shrouded our vision in a silvery white world, but from Tengu Iwa on that day, the view was exceptional, and as if to welcome us, owls were hooting in the twilight hours. Due to the yellow sand, we could see the sun with the naked eye even at the time when the sun was rising and shining around us. It was a strange morning, as if the sun could also be seen as the moon, and given its position only 10 days or so after the annular solar eclipse that crossed the U.S. on April 9, it could have been a time when the relationship between the sun and the moon was at a major crossroads. Grain must have been very happy with the yellow rain, which symbolized a rain of “Grain Shower”.
