Greetings travel enthusiasts! Today Expedition Echelon will present you the first episode in a brand-new series where we will be exploring the very best travel locations that Japan has to offer.

Japan has 47 Prefectures according to their geographic and historical background. These prefectures are divided into 8 regions. Hokkaido Region is the first in the series. The goal of this series is to break these multiple locations into eight Episodes/Segments, and show you the BEST TRAVEL LOCATIONS in each region. If you have any confusions, don’t be shy to comment below!

Its wide avenues and grid layout give it a unique feel compared to other Japanese cities. Next, hop on a train to Otaru, a charming port city known for its picturesque canal district. Lined with historic warehouses and gaslights, the canal comes alive in winter with a stunning illumination display, but Otaru’s charm extends beyond the visuals. Here, you can indulge in the freshest seafood and explore unique shops, selling everything from handcrafted glass to music boxes. Did you know Otaru boasts a long history of glassblowing, a legacy dating back to the Edo period? Interested in memorable photos in a romantic setting? Then we recommend planning your trip for the Snow Light Path Festival during winter. Thank us later. Hakodate. Now let’s travel further south to Hakodate, a historic port town with a distinct European influence. Explore the star shaped Goryokaku Fort, a relic of the Edo period, or take in panoramic city views from Mount Hakodate. Wondering what the best time to visit is? It would undoubtedly be during the spring. Those cherry blossoms are a must see. Fun fact Hakodate was one of the first Japanese cities to open to foreign trade in the 19th century, giving it a rich, multicultural heritage. Furano. Nature lovers, buckle up! Furano is a breathtaking tapestry of lavender fields in summer, a sight that will leave you breathless. In winter, the landscape transforms into a snowy wonderland perfect for skiers and snowboarders. Did you know Furano is nicknamed the belly of Hokkaido for its fertile plains, producing some of Japan’s most delicious agricultural products? Asahikawa.
