Wakkani Station was rebuilt into a modern station in 2011

As the train chugged away from the bustling city of Sapporo, it ventured into a winter wonderland, embarking on a journey to the northernmost tip of Japan – Wakkanai. The landscape transformed before the passengers’ eyes, as buildings gave way to vast expanses of snow-covered fields and frost-laden forests.

Inside the warm and cozy train cabins, travelers bundled up in layers of clothing, eagerly anticipating the scenic journey ahead. The rhythmic sound of the train’s wheels on the tracks provided a soothing backdrop as they gazed out of the windows, mesmerized by the serene beauty of the winter landscape.

As the train made its way through Hokkaido’s snowy countryside, passengers were treated to breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains, frozen rivers, and quaint villages blanketed in white. Snowflakes danced in the air, swirling and twirling in the gentle breeze, painting a picturesque scene straight out of a winter fairy tale.

Despite the chilly temperatures outside, the camaraderie among passengers kept spirits high. Laughter and chatter filled the air as travelers shared stories, sipped hot cups of tea, and indulged in warm bowls of Hokkaido’s famous miso ramen, a comforting treat to ward off the winter chill.

As the journey neared its end, the train approached Wakkanai, its destination at the northernmost tip of Japan. Passengers gathered their belongings, their hearts warmed not only by the memories of the scenic train ride but also by the anticipation of exploring the rugged beauty of Hokkaido’s winter wonderland. Wakkanai is roughly the same latitude as Montreal Canada, Portland USA, Lyon France

With a sense of awe and wonder, they stepped off the train, ready to embrace the adventures that awaited them in this remote corner of Japan, where the beauty of winter knows no bounds.
