8:01 Conclusion
Hello I’m Kyoto Local!
Today I’ll talk about 8 new things Japan
especially Kyoto has changed in 2024.
I’ll cover various updates,
including road restrictions, seasonal events etc.
I want you to gain essential insights to enhance
your travel experience. So let’s go together!
Number 1 Gion restriction
Some private roads like this small road in Gion
which are crowded with foreign tourists, will
be closed for tourists at starting of May. The
restrictions will be done at Hanamikoji Lane which
is very well-known spot and have small roads.
Some small roads are private and by now we
can pass through these small roads
with kindness of local residents.
However because of the bat manners, the entry
and passage of small roads will be prohibited
and violators will be find ¥10,000 ,about $70.
You can encounter some signs here and there,
so you don’t worry about violating the
regulation but take care about that!
Number two Introducing Tourist Express Bus
Oh the bus is always very congested… Yes
it’s not Kyoto, but with congestion on city
buses becoming an issue in Kyoto City. The
Kyoto municipal Transportation Bureau
has decided the big timetable change.
A new tourist express bus which directly
connects well-known destination such
as Kiyomizu Temple and Ginkaku Temple
from Kyoto station will start in June.
According to the plan a new tourist express
bus will be established on Saturdays,
Sundays and holidays. The fare is different from
regular city buses. ¥500 for adults and ¥250 for
children. You can also use the subway&bus
one day pass which allows you to ride the
subway and buses that run within the city as many
times as you like in a day. Additionally the bus
numbers bound for Kinkaku Temple and Higashiyama
area will be increased in June. Through these
changes it will be very convenient for you to
use bus, especially for those who want to visit
Kinkaku Temple. Very good news because the bus
bound for Kinkaku Temple is always congested,
so it’s very good news. There are so many bus
lines in Kyoto so if you use the bus, please
check bus number here and Google Map here. If
you can check correctly, you won’t get wrong bus.
Anyway you can use bus more
easily and comfortable.
Number 3 weather update
According to Meteorological Agency,
this summer will be extremely hot again
and Kyoto is hotter than other area.
And well known spot is usually outside like
this. No AC situation so if you plan to visit
Kyoto between June and September,
you should prepare for equipment,
drinks etc. Especially around August it’s
extremely hot so please take care for heat stroke.
Also between June and July it’s rainy season so
if you visit this month please be careful about
clothes and shoes, but at convenience store
you can buy raincoat and umbrella, so local
purchase of these items is also good I think.
Anyway summer season is extremely hot so please
prepare and take care.
Number 4 Noryo Yuka open
The symbol of Kyoto is back! As of May 1
Noryo Yuka will be opened this year too.
Named Kyoto Kamogawa Nouryou-Yuka summer tradition
passed down from the culture of the Edo period
which is about 400 years ago. Noryo Yuka is
open air seating by the Kamo River created by
restaurants and tea shops. You can enjoy good food
and drinks with good River View. Open air seat is
usually tatami seats, so you can enjoy Japanese
good mood. Noryo Yuka is summer seasonal event
between May 1st to September 30 although as I said
before especially July and August, it’s extreme
hot but you can enjoy food and drinks
with exotic mood, so please consider it!
About 90 restaurants and shops
are available but the reservation
is must. The reservation page is in
the description, so please check it!
Number 5 raising accommodation tax
According to Kyoto city mayor,
they are considering the raise of accommodation
tax. Accommodation tax has been introduced
at some cities like Kyoto, Tokyo, Osaka and the
tax rate is here. Now we can’t know about how
much the tax will be raised, but especially
for those who want to visit Kyoto cheaply,
please follow this news. The municipality
plans to raise around fiscal year 2026. Of
course the tax is not big money but I want you
to consider this aspect before coming Japan.
Number 6 to 8 seasonal event update
Aside from Noryo Yuka, I want to share the
main attractive events in May and June in Kyoto.
First hydrangea garden will be open. Hydrangea
is one of the most popular summer flowers in
Japan. And in Kyoto there’re some hydrangea
garden in Temple and Shrine. My recommendation is
Fujimori Shine. There are 3,500 hydrangeas here,
so you can enjoy colorful Kyoto mood. The
fee is about ¥300 $2. Usually this Garden
will be open between June and fast July. The
detail is in the description please check it!
Second one is the five Story Tower
of toji Temple will be open. Toji
Temple is located near Kyoto station .
And five story’s Tower is the symbol of
this Temple normally we can’t enter the
tower but between April 27th and May 25th
we can enter the inside of this tower.
Inside they are important Budda statues
and you can feel Japanese special mood
so if you interested please come here
Finnally Kamogawa Odori will be held
Kamogawa odori is the elegant and Geisha
entertain audiences with dance drama or pure
dance. This event was established about 120
years ago and since then the event has been
held once or twice a year. This year the
event will be held between May 1st and May 24
you can enjoy deep Kyoto culture. The detail
is in the description so please check it!!
Anyway that’s the end of my video. Do you
enjoy it if so please hit like And subscribe I
hope you’ll have a great Kyoto trip thank you
