guess where we are well first of all
wait wait welcome to naha Port okanawa
Japan Andrea what are we doing today oh
my gosh so excited so hopefully we get a
taxi that’s the first thing that we need
to overcome but we want to go to the
Sher Castle we want to go to the Navy
headquarters underground uh tunnels
Japanese yes we want to go to the uh
Memorial Park that’s where the Battle of
Okawa ended we’re hoping to get some
local food too yeah definitely local
food a local area we’re gonna maybe do a
couple of Pub crawls type of thing I
hope at the end of seeing all these
amazing things in okanawa
Japan welcome to H’s Journey this is now
our taxi driver for the day and boy did
we get lucky with him what we thought
was going to be the biggest challenge of
hiring a taxi for the today turned out
to be very easy but first let’s start at
the beginning of the day with the
Japanese customs and our delay in
getting off the ship since this was our
first Port of Call in Japan we knew in
advance that we were going to have to go
through customs we were told that those
with Carnival Excursions in okanawa were
going to meet in the theater and go
through customs all together the rest of
us were going to be called by deck
numbers to head over to the turnmill or
if you had an outside Excursion booked
and you could show proof get Guest
Services would try to accommodate you by
allowing you to get off the ship and go
through customs at a specific time since
we didn’t have anything officially
booked we decided not to go to guest
services and waited to be called this
turned out to be a big mistake there
were so many people in the Carnival
Excursions that it seemed to take
forever for them to get to the rest of
us it was over 2 hours of waiting to get
off and then once we were allowed to get
off the ship we still had to wait in a
long line to the terminal as theck
Japanese border agents cleared each
passenger in this process they took our
custom forms checked our passports took
a photo and finger printed us and then
gave us a clearance sticker in our
passport books for the remaining of our
Japanese ports finally after going
through customs we got down to the area
where the taxis were taxi this way this
way all right we’re going to grab
ourselves a taxi
they got this huge
map
oh we’re going to Andrea is going to
tell them where we’re
going and then we’ll uh take it from
there we got in the taxi the lady at the
taxi stand spoke English she was very
nice very informative
and we’re heading out and there’s the
ter terminal and there’s our cruise ship
as Michael mentioned it was really an
easy process The woman there asked us
where we wanted to go and then she
filled out a little slip of paper gave
it to the driver gave him the directions
in Japanese and we were on our
way we are looking [ __ ] yeah it’s like a
cargo ship it’s like a city on
there it’s said gu on it
us oh it’s American
base oh
yes he knows theal
[Laughter]
[Music]
he knows it all
right very
good so now is dropping us off dropping
me off to go in the store to get some
beer all right I’m going in okay is this
the chicken this the chicken yeah and
keep it hot with
this wow very nice store
very
clean is that the one we’re going with
is that the light one or the heavy
one we just left the cers and now we’re
over here putting it in a bag very nice
we got a lot of uh Japanese
snacks
[Laughter]
cheers okay
[Laughter]
oh with the sweet potato we just had
sweet potato it was the best now said
yeah he’ll take some of that now’s like
yeah I’ll have some of that very good
they’re good okay let’s see what was it
let’s see the potato
Michael yeah I want to try I want to try
yeah I want to try mhm very
good right it’s very good bag in a
potato pot in a bag potato in a bag you
want you want a piece yeah a piece it’s
very good and I’m have
another oh

beer okay what do you got
here so these are seaweed and salt
seaweed and salt
[Music]

Park so this is uh the piece Memorial
Museum this was the last stance in
okanawa our taxi drivers showing us
where to go what to
do this is the movie he wanted to show
us
complete Des D
[Music]
destruction wow
no
all those names there have to be names
I’m sure of the Japanese that have
passed away or perished have perished in
the
war uhuh
phili Philipp phili Philipp Japan Japan
President Clinton stood right here
really
so what we just found out is that these
areas over here are all fallen soldiers
that were American United States
soldiers and on the other side is all
okanawa so this is
everyone
unbelievable yes American
soldiers and then on this
side is
okanawa Japanese
soldiers unbelievable
okay
Japanese military are no names people
lost at war that they don’t have a name
they couldn’t identify them so it’s a
no-name memorial
is what I’m
gathering from
our tour guide our Taxi
Driver if I’m breathing
heavy I am walking
upstairs and this is a cliff
this voice is unbelievable we are on a
uh tight schedule this is the furthest
place away we need to hit our next place
if we were here longer in Port and we
got off the ship a lot earlier we would
have seen more of this place it’s an
amazing amazing Memorial it truly is and
it just shows you the face of
War it’s not pretty
all right we’re at the Family Mart we
were told by Lon Jen and Cory we have to
go to family
Mark put it oh you take that one
wonderful wonderful that one okay
[Music]
y Oki
saki oh it screw you up
so we made our stop at the Family Mart
and we bought four beers all kinds of
chicken cost us 2800 Yen
I so we’re sitting outside the family
Mark now’s eating his sweet potato
Andrea is eating her
chicken Tony’s eating his
chicken Stella’s eating her chicken and
drinking beer oh yeah
oh Andre is drinking beer too Tony’s
hiding his beer oh there it is I see it
I’m the
chicken I already finished my chicken
I’m into the beer now Michael there’s
another plain one all right want it oh
there’s another plain chicken I’ll take
that so this is what the chicken looks
like I mean it it’s very tasty yeah very
tasty but I’m glad we did it family M uh

going the former Navy Japanese
headquarters ch Japanese Naval
underground
headquarters they’re underground to
protect themselves
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
the operations
room oh
oh my
gosh oh my God so when they committed
suicide they’d be in this room and they
would pull a
grenade and that’s all hand
grenade when they commit lots of suicide
was committed
by the uh the
Japanese the contribs of and and winning
on the front lines of
battle composed in the face of his
impending death the adal’s message
appealed from the Dos of these
underground tunnels
[Music]
on this fight occurred some of the final
and most intense fighting of World War
II here on June 13
[Music]
1945
Admiral and others took their own lives
as the ultimate sacrifice for their
country surrounded by overwhelming
American
forces the Imperial forces endured days
of fighting
sustaining serious damage and
casualties however the
25
withs the will to resisting with Spears
and from the conf underground
shelter D furiously until the
end we
pray all right we found the another stop
I’m going to find another beer here
somewhere oh we already found
it so this is the
castle so I think what our plan here is
is
take some uh quick pictures of the
castle and then head
into town I think I’m not sure I got
talk to the
[Music]
group so we going way
[Music]

find a quick local bite and maybe a
quick local cocktail and uh get back to

put it on our dish and the guy that’s
running the show here comes out and gave
us this he said you guys are going to be
crying oh you bring it over ah he’s
going to bring it over to the table a
snake no we’re going to get you snake
[Laughter]
I
chihuaha look at this oh no we’re going

eye pretty good I told you it’s got a
little cinnamon flavor to it that might
be the
Venom so we just finished the sofa we
finished what was that other thing
called what was it called
and what was the other thing called with
the
snake I wow that’s all I can say about
[Music]
[Laughter]
[Music]
that there we go so it looks like we’re
going to be tight to get back to the
ship uh Andrea just looked at the
map CU looks like there may be a crash
and we may have to contact the
ship we don’t know so
dramatic all right we’re heading back to
the car let’s hope oh no let’s go let’s
go let’s go so we think that we’re
heading the right direction oh there’s
our ship right there right in front of
us oh that’s right
all right we are we are literally stuck
in a light in the middle of an
intersection we got a green arrow we’re
