Good evening everyone 🌙 I’m Taraco. This is in front of the south gate of Touji Temple in Kyoto… There’s a long line waiting for the gates to open for the light-up event. The line has started to move .

This time, we’ll be taking a walk around the Touji precincts in late autumn. Touji Temple The location of the temple is like this… The entrance fee is 1,000 yen for adults and 500 yen for junior high school students and younger. There were a lot of people in front of the “Houzou”.

Actually, I came to Toji during the day. The weather was nice and the building was spectacular. This is a daytime view of the area where I am now. I’m walking from the opposite direction. It looks different when it’s lit up. The reflection in the moat is also beautiful.

How much do you know about Toji Temple? Let me give you a brief introduction. The story takes place around the end of the 8th century. The main gate of Heiankyo, the capital at that time, was called Rashomon, and two temples were built to the east and west of it, “Touji” and “Saiji”

Each temple is a royal city temple that protects Sakyo and Ukyo, They were also temples of national protection that guarded the eastern and western regions of the country. Toji Temple dates its foundation in Enryaku 15, A.D. 796. Later, in 823 A.D., Emperor Saga bestowed Toji Temple to Kuukai (Kobo Daishi),

The founder of the Shingon sect of Buddhism. Toji Temple was an official temple for the protection of the nation and the fundamental center of Shingon esoteric Buddhism. Touji Temple declined for a time in the late Heian Period,

But from the Kamakura Period, with the rise of the Kuukai faith, it became widely worshipped as the “temple of Odaishi-sama” by everyone from the imperial family to the common people. Designated as a national historic site in 1934,

It was registered as a World Heritage site in December 1994 as a component of the “Cultural Properties of Ancient Kyoto. This is the entrance to the temple grounds. It was so peaceful in the daytime. Tourists are sparse. Here’s a map of Toji Temple… Light up is done in this part.
