Hiroshima & Miyajima – Best Things To See & Do (Japan Travel Guide)



Hiroshima is in Japan’s Hiroshima Prefecture, this video highlights some of Hiroshima’s sightseeing attractions, these include The Atomic Bomb Dome, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, Hiroshima Castle, Miyajima Island, Itsukushima Shrine and its Great Torii Gate.

Today our exciting journey begins at the Atomic Bomb Dome in Hiroshima The Atomic Bomb Dome or A-Bomb Dome, is part of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park The Domes remains were left standing after the atomic bomb exploded in 1945 The Motoyasu River and the Motoyasu Bridge The Atomic Bomb Memorial Burial Mound

The Bell of Peace Hiroshima Victims Memorial Cenotaph The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum This park is a very special place and well worth visiting when in Hiroshima Next we visit Hiroshima Castle The Castle is surrounded by a moat that was used as a defence from attack

The Castle was originally constructed in 1589, it was largely destroyed by the Atomic Bomb in 1945 With beautiful grounds for you to wander around this is a nice place to visit To get around you can ride the Hiroshima Electric Railway

There are trams from all over the world and a couple still in use from a time when the Atomic Bomb was dropped Next we visit Miyajima, an island easily reached by ferry Miyajima is home to many Sika Deer, these friendly Deer are so cute

Located in Hiroshima Bay Miyajima is known for its ancient temples And the famous Itsukushima Shrine Great Torii Gate Itsukushima Shrine is said to have origins dating back to the year 593 AD, the current structure dates to 1875

The site is dedicated to the 3 daughters of Susanso-o no Mikoto, the Shinto deity of seas and storms With the floating Shrine being one of Japan’s most popular tourist attractions Daigan-ji Temple is located just next to the Itsukushima Shrine

Miyajima offers a great day out for tourists and locals on a day out with their family With walking trails and Mt Misen to venture up to for those who are a bit more adventurous Miyajima has a Museum of History housed in a residence of a former merchant

Also located at the far end of town you will be able to visit an Aquarium And of course Miyajima is also famous for its Oysters Overall despite the crowds Miyajima is a beautiful Island and well worth visiting
