FIRST Bites In TOKYO!! Is JAPAN EXPENSIVE!?!?šŸ‡ÆšŸ‡µ

TOKYO FOOD TOUR NUMBER 1!

The wait is over, we have finally made it to Japan!! The number one place on our travel bucket list has always been Japan and we are so excited to share all the delicious food with you!

This, being our first food tour in Tokyo, we are just getting our feet wet and getting comfortable learning Japanese culinary customs. We randomly found an incredible Tonkatsu Wako restaurant and started our journey off with one of our favorite meals of all time! We ate an awesome authentic grilled fish breakfast and stumbled into a revolving Sushi spot as a night cap!

The highlight of this one has got to be Tsumuji Tokyo, a place we are still trying to learn how to pronounce. We were treated to a traditional multi-course meal, served outside of a Buddhist temple, that knocked our socks clean off!

This video is just our humble, awkward introduction to Japan but this series is sure to be full of mouthwatering delights!

After you work up your appetite donā€™t forget to SUBSCRIBE we have many more amazing videos coming from JAPAN!!

Weā€™re in Tokyo! [Music] Itā€™s our first time in Japan andĀ  we couldnā€™t be more excited. ForĀ Ā  the next 3 weeks weā€™ll be soakingĀ  up the vibrant energy of Tokyo,Ā Ā  followed by three more weeks exploring theĀ  rest of Japan! From Sapporo to Fukuoka!Ā

So grab your chopsticks and join us as weĀ  stumble through our first few days in Tokyo.Ā  Slurping noodles, decoding Google translate,Ā  and navigating Japanese dining customs.Ā  You donā€™t want to miss it. MakeĀ  sure to subscribe, Letā€™s eat! All right we found the first restaurant thatĀ  weā€™re actually going to try and go into.Ā  Katsu is that it?Ā  Yeah, Tonkatsu Wako. this is terrifying. when we first walked in it was superĀ  easy she pointed to a sign that saidĀ Ā

In English pay in cash, we sanitized ourĀ  hands and then she guided us to a table.Ā  I am so nervous. all rightĀ  we know what weā€™re getting.Ā Ā  I think I have to call him but Iā€™mĀ  nervous I feel so rude doing this. BING I hate that. And just like that, as long as you canĀ  say thank you and one, youā€™ll have lunch!Ā  with the help of Google translate we ordered twoĀ  sets off the lunch menu and it looks so Fantastic! I went with the double pork cutlet whichĀ  is a perfectly tender crispy cut of pork,Ā Ā

Endless cabbage, it comes withĀ  a little bit of hot mustard,Ā Ā  pickled vegetables, the most amazingĀ  delicious miso soup and a side of rice.Ā  I got the lunch set, ended up comingĀ  with a pork and cheese cutlet, shrimp,Ā Ā

And a little mini pork cutlet just like Brandon. And they give you a myriad of sauces soĀ Ā  you can choose to season it to yourĀ  liking. which I love foods like that.Ā  So we have a ponzu sauce, classic tonkatsuĀ  sauce, hot mustard and tartar sauce as well.Ā

Iā€™m so excited. this is also on the table and I donā€™t know whatĀ Ā  it is. maybe itā€™s for the Cabbage. thatā€™s what Iā€™mĀ  going use it for, it smells like salad dressing.Ā  you know what the Tonkatsu sauce reminds me ofĀ  kind of like A1 dressing. itā€™s very flavorfulĀ Ā

And the pork cutlet is fried perfectly. I cannotĀ  believe this is a chain restaurant because I wouldĀ Ā  come here every single day if I was in Japan. The miso soup is some of the best Iā€™ve hadĀ Ā  in Japan, I donā€™t know what they doĀ  thatā€™s different but itā€™s incredible.Ā

Thereā€™s freaking clams in the Miso!Ā  thatā€™s why you like it so much. itĀ Ā  really adds a good depth of flavor. I cannot describe the batter. youĀ Ā  would be so surprised to know how delicate thatĀ  batter is. itā€™s just incredible. itā€™s so soft,Ā Ā

The pork is tender, itā€™s like theĀ  best porky flavor that you can have.Ā  oh my God. the rice is so fluffy andĀ Ā  tender and sticky the rice in Japan in general isĀ  on another level but this is really really good.Ā

So this is definitely pork but it tastes differentĀ  than Brandonā€™s. I think itā€™s like a different cutĀ Ā  of pork. Brandonā€™s definitely translated to porkĀ  loin I donā€™t know if mine is like a differentā€¦Ā Ā  but mineā€™s juicier. I like the smaller oneĀ  better. okay let me put them side by side soĀ Ā

You can see. oh yeah. mineā€™s like a littleĀ  lighter color yours is darker. mineā€™s likeĀ Ā  a little puck and yours is like a whole loin. I always save the shrimp for last because itā€™sĀ Ā  my favorite part. they do have tartar sauce butĀ  I like the tonkatsu sauce better. itā€™s a fatĀ Ā

Piece of shrimp. itā€™s so big. the flakiness on theĀ  outside is so delicious. the shrimp is springy andĀ Ā  cooked so well. this is my favorite thing. this is amazing. itā€™s so good.Ā  yo the shrimp might be the best part. holy cow itā€™s so good. springy flavorfulĀ Ā

Crunchy. man this is incredible.Ā  everyone knows Iā€™m a tail eater! Come here eat this. make thisĀ  your first stop in TOKYO!Ā  something super cool about this place. isĀ  that the rice. miso. and cabbage is allĀ Ā  unlimited. Brandonā€™s going to tryĀ  it we donā€™t know what weā€™re doingĀ Ā  wish us luck [Doorbell] so Ballsy!Ā

She heard it. now we just wait patiently.Ā  I donā€™t know how to say cabbage so Iā€™m justĀ Ā  going to point to where the Cabbage was andĀ  hope for the best. I know they have plenty. Cabbage Onegasimasu! I think she got it. uh and what should happen nextĀ Ā

Is we should get a huge basket that looks likeĀ  the Easter Bunny is bringing cabbage to everybody you nailed it! look at that EasterĀ Ā  Bunny came and delivered us more lettuce! if you watched any of our travel videosĀ Ā

Before you know we normally throw the napkin whenĀ  weā€™re done with our meal but thatā€™s disrespectfulĀ Ā  here so weā€™ll just show you our empty plates. they always bring your check with your food andĀ Ā  if you want to order more youā€™re always allowedĀ  to order more and when you pay you always pay onĀ Ā

Your way out. like you donā€™t wait for them to takeĀ  your check at the table like you would in America.Ā  Tonkatsu wako, what an absolute amazing way toĀ  start this adventure. everything was perfect inĀ Ā

There for a first stop. I cannot believe how luckyĀ  we got 20 bucks and by the way weā€™re both full.Ā Ā  the portions are huge in there, quality is superĀ  high, the people were so friendly, it was just anĀ Ā

Absolute perfect way to start this Japan series . I had no idea what they were saying butĀ Ā  it all worked out great! 10 out of 10! where to next?Ā  uh I donā€™t know something to eat?! We were walking by this yakiniku placeĀ  that has a 580 Yen lunch set special.Ā Ā  which is like $4 so weā€™re going toĀ  see if thatā€™s a real thing or not! [Music] the server really helpedĀ Ā  us a lot more than heā€™s helping other people.Ā  itā€™s kind of like a self- served situation.Ā

We had to go to a couple differentĀ  pages to find that 580 special butĀ Ā  we were able to look them up and find them. The thing is instructing us to light a fire.Ā  ready?Ā  oh itā€™s doing something! we did it!Ā

Fire is going and theyā€™re going to bring ourĀ  lunch sets to us now. we have a bunch of saucesĀ Ā  and things like that which is cool. it bings when your order ready andĀ Ā  then you just bring them up thereĀ  and then they give you your tray.Ā  this is my moment! [Music]

Yours look incredible. and itĀ  comes with soup. this is suchĀ Ā  a good deal for like 450. all rightĀ  weā€™re going to get some stuff going Love these types of places you can kind ofĀ  make your own sauce Iā€™m doing miso garlicĀ Ā  spicy sauce and a little bit of soy. they cookĀ  so fast. so good. hopefully I cooked it good. is it bomb? Mmmhm!Ā  oh we killed it. oh that is a beautifulĀ  thing.I think thatā€™s the skirt steak

We almost had a fire hazard on our hands. thisĀ  guy looks about done to me. these thin beef ribsĀ Ā  cook so quickly look at how tender that is. thatĀ  is so bomb. I love that it comes with kimchi .theĀ Ā

Kimchi, rice, soup, is all refillable tooĀ  so you can have as much of it as you want.Ā Ā  so good. this is amazing so fat so juicy so goodĀ  this is 100% the best $4 you can spend in Tokyo! [Music] All in all we ended up spending aboutĀ  $12 us for both our sets and we added a saladĀ Ā  and we got free tea. the people were superĀ  helpful. the meat is insane tender you canĀ Ā  customize your sauce any way you want. you canĀ  cook it at your speed. people were taking theirĀ Ā

Time people were in people were out. come outĀ  of your way hit this spot when youā€™re in Tokyo! Weā€™re on the 12th floor of the Shibuya skyĀ  scramble and it is an absolutely must do spot.Ā  yeah you donā€™t need to go up to likeĀ  the 23rd floor for the observatoryĀ Ā

You can just come here for free. itā€™s a budget hack. killer view. allĀ Ā  these amazing restaurants right here. we willĀ  definitely come back here and eat something. this next spot weā€™re hitting up is a revolvingĀ  sushi bar itā€™s called katsu midori and itĀ Ā

Looks phenomenal.. really high quality thisĀ  will be our first sushi in Japan letā€™s go!Ā  found it! thereā€™s nothing in English butĀ  thereā€™s a queue so weā€™re just going toĀ Ā  go sit at the end of it and hope we get to eat. weā€™ve only been here 10 minutes and weā€™ve movedĀ Ā

Up 15 people. weā€™re almost in already .weā€™re theĀ  next two person party so we might be up next.Ā  itā€™s finally our turn. we have made it we areĀ Ā  at the sushi counter thereā€™s an iPad for usĀ  to order on and there is Sushi going back soĀ Ā  here we go! [Music]

[Music] weā€™ve been hereĀ Ā  for just a little while and we have no idea whatĀ  weā€™re supposed to do. we just put in some edamameĀ Ā  thereā€™s not a whole lot of fish on the conveyorĀ  belt so weā€™re not sure what weā€™re supposed to do.Ā

I donā€™t know what it is Iā€™m taking it. just waiting to see if I get yelled at.Ā Ā  no one said anything I think itā€™s okay.Ā  all right here we go. light fish withĀ Ā  onion flavor! delicious! great first bite! after a few minutes observing other people,Ā Ā

A quick laugh with The Sushi Guy signalingĀ  to us to eat weā€™ve decided to get wild! How many plates is too many platesĀ  to have at a time? this is so fun!Ā  this place is bumping. the sushiĀ  guys are all working together toĀ Ā  like get out as much Sushi asĀ  they can. theyā€™re keeping upĀ Ā

With the orders. absolutely coolest dudes too. The pieces are so much bigger than what we get atĀ Ā  home. itā€™s insane how huge this slice of tuna is.Ā  just stole a plate from me! tuna avocado Mayo thisĀ Ā

Fun. now weā€™re just a full tuna party over here! all right this is a huge bite. this is easilyĀ Ā  double the amount of fish youĀ  would normally get like back home. oh thatā€™s the best! I mean itā€™s not too big of a bite because it likeĀ Ā

Dissolves in your mouth. so good that is insane . obviously we could have assumed this one was forĀ Ā  us. I got a California roll cuz Iā€™m that guy. California roll is so good. thereā€™s crab,Ā Ā  tamago egg, cucumber, avocado, Sesame,Ā  eel sauce, mayo, and lettuce. and theĀ Ā

Cucumber and lettuce on it is like soĀ  fresh it gives it such a good crunch.Ā  yeah Iā€™m kind of in on the lettuce. yeah who knew? the quality of this fish is remarkably high forĀ Ā  a revolving sushi place. like weā€™ve been inĀ  San Diego a few times and some other placesĀ Ā

New York. honestly the quality of fish hereĀ  is definitely better. all that fish is likeĀ Ā  seasoned like perfectly itā€™s a really cool vibe. I am realizing too that I think I have expensiveĀ Ā  taste because Iā€™m grabbing the mostĀ  expensive ones every time they come by.Ā

How do you know how much they cost? well thereā€™s a list it shows youĀ Ā  at the bottom of this menu. oh for plate the blue ones areĀ Ā  165 yen. all right weā€™ll compare at theĀ  end to see who has the most expensive.

I love tuna this is just aĀ  seared tuna with a littleĀ Ā  bit of mayo and maybe just aĀ  little ponu sauce on there. both of them? oh man we got too much! allĀ  right we need to think about ourselves.Ā

Weā€™ve got too much weā€™ve got too much! what is this avocado oh thank you Alyssa! Which been your favorite so far? uh fatty tuna plain. fatty tuna seared.Ā Ā  fatty tuna chopped. medium fatty tuna. tuna tuna tuna!Ā  yeah Iā€™m a huge tuna. fan this is a greatĀ  introduction to Japanese sushi in Japan.Ā

Yeah all right so we each have eightĀ  plates. what do you think the total is?Ā  50 bucks 60 bucks maybe more? yeah I would say that too 50?Ā  I am stuffed to the brim so whatever these 16Ā  plates were full of was filling for sure. yeah.Ā Ā

And thereā€™s more. the longer we sit here theĀ  more Iā€™m temped to just keep grabbing stuff.Ā Ā  Yeah like should I take an eel for the road? overall Iā€™m pumped this was like super easyĀ Ā  and super like stressfree. so itĀ  was a good start. I am excitedĀ Ā

To now try sushi like standing at a counter. the last thing we have to do is call our serverĀ Ā  over and she will bring a computer over and countĀ  the plates somehow and then we just have to pay.Ā  that little machine separates them how manyĀ  cheap plates how many expensive plates. 16.Ā

Oh my God itā€™s so much cheaper than we thought. 4,000 Yen! also no tax tip which is crazy soĀ Ā  what an affordable sushi spread man. Iā€™m going to call it a cheap eat! [Music] [Music] this is the most Iā€™ve waited at a stoplight likeĀ Ā

Without jaywalking ever inĀ  a city in my entire life.Ā  everyone is very obedient weā€™re abidingĀ  by those rules but we are avid jaywalkers So we found this spot shinpachi shokudo andĀ  it is absolutely must hit. really cheap setsĀ Ā  even with two beers our bill came to lessĀ  than $20 for our second lunch of the day.Ā  so everything was in Japanese I justĀ  used my Google translate. we got someĀ Ā

Sort of salmon and some sort of fat red fish. uh they both look great and thereā€™s picturesĀ Ā  so itā€™s fine oh I feel like we didi good! weā€™ve had some sushi but this will be ourĀ Ā  first cooked fish that weā€™veĀ  had in Japan so Iā€™m excited.Ā

Thereā€™s Kirin for 150. should we get lit? dialĀ  me! in dial me in! for real? 150! just put it in!Ā  it is crazy how much better the beerĀ  tastes in Japan than back in the States.Ā  itā€™s like Guinness in Ireland. like itĀ  has a different mouth feel. itā€™s thickerĀ Ā

Itā€™s creamier itā€™s fresher itā€™s crisper. likeĀ  the beer really slaps and for a buck come on.Ā  this looks incredible and it smells amazing. thereā€™s like wood charr marks. you can smellĀ Ā  the charcoal in this place. unbelievable set. the fish is so big. we literally just ate andĀ Ā

This is like we thought it was going to be like aĀ  nice little fish meal this is so big. Iā€™m pumpedĀ Ā  though it looks delicious and it smells so good! they always give you some pickled veg this daikonĀ Ā

Radish it comes with these seasoned greenĀ  beans a giant bowl of miso soup. look howĀ Ā  big this bowl is, some fluffy rice but thisĀ  is the star the grilled salmon. look at thatĀ Ā  beautiful color. Iā€™ve never seen a more beautifulĀ  site. itā€™s brown and crispy on the outside this isĀ Ā

Easily a top five fish Iā€™ve ever had in my entireĀ  life and itā€™s salmon. itā€™s cooked perfectly. likeĀ Ā  a medium rare on the inside outsideā€™s crispy IĀ  cannot describe how tender this is Itā€™s amazing.Ā  Look at this perfect piece of fish.Ā  Itā€™s so pretty I donā€™t want to eat it.Ā

This is perfectly cooked. itā€™s softĀ  itā€™s flaky itā€™s oily skin is crispyĀ Ā  this is amazing. Iā€™m pretty sure itā€™sĀ  red snapper. theyā€™re both phenomenal! So finding that place was just a happy accident.Ā  Tokyo is so big and so magnificent that I feelĀ Ā  like the best way to find something is just toĀ  wander around just go inside give it a shot andĀ Ā  itā€™s bound to be delicious! [Music]

So next on the list of things that weā€™reĀ  going to do that we have no idea if weā€™reĀ Ā  allowed to do or how to do them is go intoĀ  this building. which is the Tokyo MetropolitanĀ Ā  government building and they say that thereā€™sĀ  a free Observatory on the 45th floor. and weĀ Ā

Love free and we live in Observatory soĀ  weā€™re going to go and try and do that.Ā  there is indeed a free Observatory onĀ  the 45th floor this place is amazingĀ Ā  thereā€™s only two rules donā€™t use a tripod and wearĀ Ā

Your mask. this place is sick and free. I cannot believe it there was no line.Ā Ā  we literally walked in they sanitized us checkedĀ  our temperatures and turned us loose. like crazy.Ā  this the nicest volunteer guide just cameĀ  up to us and gave us some maps and pointedĀ Ā

Out a bunch of things that we need to do.Ā  some of which we hadnā€™t even heard of yet.Ā  this place this is absolutely an amazing situationĀ  and for $0 itā€™s an absolute must do in Tokyo We are just outside of Tskuiji Market gettingĀ  a world class breakfast at Tsumugi. weā€™reĀ Ā  not quite sure how to pronounce it but itĀ  looks amazing and weā€™ve heard great things.Ā  itā€™s a Thursday and itā€™s snowing andĀ  she said usually need a reservation butĀ Ā

Because thereā€™s not too many people outĀ  because of the snow we are okay. thereā€™sĀ Ā  only three things on breakfast menu the mostĀ  popular is going to be the breakfast set theĀ Ā  set comes with 18 dishes. and it has somethingĀ  to do with honoring Buddha which weā€™ve had inĀ Ā

Thailand before so weā€™re really pumped forĀ  that. the set also comes with tea and Iā€™mĀ Ā  so glad they had instructions because itā€™sĀ  so cute but I had no idea how to drink it. this is a stunning restaurant. it hasĀ  an incredible view of a Buddhist templeĀ Ā

On this snowy Tokyo day, itā€™s superĀ  quiet, itā€™s chill, itā€™s phenomenal.Ā  let me take a shot at some of thisĀ  because some of these Iā€™ve seen:Ā  Plum, black beans, no idea, woodear mushrooms,Ā  orange I know that one for sure, mystery sauce,Ā Ā  more roe, potato salad, tofu, donā€™t knowĀ  this one, eggplant, tamagoyaki, octopus,Ā Ā

Duck, fish cake, radish, miso soup, andĀ  congee. like a rice porridge and you canĀ Ā  eat endless amounts of this here too. so thisĀ  really good. this is just amazing. each thingĀ Ā  has its own little cute dish. thereā€™s JapaneseĀ  and English descriptions of all of the items.Ā Ā

And it is is quite the spread there areĀ  obviously 18 things and weā€™ll have to useĀ Ā  Google Translate to learn more about them. this is the origin of the 18 kinds ofĀ Ā  breakfast. Savor the wishes of BuddhaĀ  through the 18th food breakfast whichĀ Ā

Has 18 dishes in connection with the 18th vow.Ā  Iā€™m savoring this 18 vow. this is delicious.Ā  this tofu takes some seriousĀ  Chopstick skills because itā€™s so soft.Ā  these black beans are phenomenal. thereā€™s likeĀ  a lacquered sweet soy basted sauce on there theyĀ Ā

Taste like candy. theyā€™re incredible. this fish cake is really good itā€™s likeĀ Ā  spongy in the best way and it tastes kindĀ  of like a sear on the outside itā€™s so tasty.Ā  we also got an iced matcha tea. this is likeĀ  the cheapest place that weā€™ve seen matcha.Ā

Itā€™s slightly sweetened. thatā€™s good. youā€™reĀ  going to like that. .WOW! that Plum is saltyĀ Ā  but itā€™s also sour like a warhead itā€™s absolutelyĀ  crazy. I wasnā€™t expecting how much flavor. thisĀ Ā  has one of the most sour things Iā€™ve ever eaten. every time I take a bite I have a new favoriteĀ Ā

But this spicy cod roe is absolutelyĀ  unbelievable. itā€™s a flavor bomb. I havenā€™t tried the plum yet.Ā  do I eat the whole thing?Ā  thatā€™s the pit! itā€™s the most sour thing Iā€™ve ever had! I was ooĀ  Oh! I thought it was going to be sweet! I feelĀ Ā

Like a baby who tried their first lemon! oh my GodĀ  thatā€™s so sour. itā€™s good I just was not ready forĀ Ā  that you didnā€™t warn me. nuclear plum top three for me in no particular order thatĀ  silken tofu with the Yuzu sauce. fish cakeĀ Ā

And the duck was literally mindblowing.Ā  that was my favorite thing on the plate.Ā  my favorites spicy cod roe. silken YuzuĀ  tofu, the lemon in it is so good. either theĀ Ā  duck or the eggplant. I like the sauce on theĀ  eggplant the duck is freaking amazing though.Ā

I mean itā€™s all great wow that was a perfect wayĀ Ā  to start our day in Tokyo. this is not so muchĀ  a breakfast as it is a total experience. theĀ Ā  view is amazing, the price is Affordable, theĀ  atmosphere is great, the people are awesome,Ā Ā

And the food is incredible. do notĀ  miss this spot on your trip to Tokyo! Iā€™m so glad you joined us for our firstĀ  week in Tokyo we struggled a bunch butĀ Ā  wow did we learn a lot: tea is alwaysĀ  free, vending machine coffee is amazing,Ā Ā

Chopsticks are usually hidden in the table, youĀ  need to call the server to order ,and we haveĀ Ā  the only English name on every wait list! we have so much more of Tokyo to show you! are you guys still hungry make sure to subscribeĀ  we have plenty more Japan videos coming your way! And Iā€™m out
