Good morning! I am in Tokyo Narita airport today where I will take a flight to Kobe I will fly with Jetstar airlines I have some free time before my flight. What is better than a massage chair to kill time 🙂

Time for lunch: Yakisoba (Noodles Japanese style), Takoyaki (ball-shaped chopped octopus), a Japanese sweet, and a drink. All of this for free thanks to my Priority Pass!! Priority Pass allows you to get free food and lounge access in airports around the world. It is very convenient

I finished my free lunch right in time to board my flight The room is not great, but for a 1 hour flight it will do Nice view from the window! it was a very quick flight I will go to my hotel in Kobe city center by bus

This is my hotel for tonight. It’s called Hotel Tor Road right in the city center and near Sannomiya train station. very convenient This hotel is “British themed”… All reminds me of the UK.. even the music on the background is by “The Beatles”

My room is small but very clean. It cost only 8000 yen! hotel rooms in Japan are usually very very small the bathroom includes a Japanese washlet Time to explore the city now! I love how Kobe streets are lined up with neon lights reminds me a bit of Osaka

I like this narrow alley… Let’s see where it goes I think it goes to the Chinese quarter Yes, this is the entrance of the famous Kobe Chinese quarter (Nankinmachi) It’s a bit late now, but usually, many restaurants and shops are open here

This area became famous during the Great Earthquake of Kobe in 1995. At that time the Chinese restaurants in the area served food for free to help the population I arrived at the main square of Nankinmachi There are many statues recalling the Chinese Zodiac in the square

At the center, there is a marvelous pavilion. It is called Azumaya Pavilion. too bad it is raining heavily… I would love to sit here and enjoy the atmosphere in the square These all around the pavilion are the famous Chinese zodiac statues

But I am starving now, so it is time to look for a restaurant for dinner I heard there are some good restaurants on the other side of the square one last panoramic view of Nankinmachi before we go to eat I really like the reflection of the Chinese lights on the floor

Let’s finally check the restaurants here this one looks good. Let’s see the menu they also have great views! I ordered sweet-sour chicken with peanuts and peppers together with some soup-filled dumplings I like the tea that came with the food, but I am not sure what it is called

After dinner, I decided to climb the Kobe Port Tower I wanted to climb it for a long time because the last time I came here it was closed …………. it’s closed again 🙁 at least the area around it is pretty cool the Kobe Port area is pretty cool

Many light-colored buildings and dancing fountains I will go to my hotel and sleep now. Goodnight! good morning! I am enjoying my hotel breakfast it is buffet-style today weather is good (finally!) I will visit Ikuta Jinja, a big shrine close to the city center

The entrance is very cool, with orange and red colors typical of Japanese Shinto shrines let’s take a closer look It is not possible to enter the internal sacred area, but we can check from outside a long line of Japanese shrine portals (Tori) reminds me of the famous Inari shrine in Kyoto

There is a small shrine on top. It is early in the morning so cleanings are underway walking through this is so fun, let’s do it one more time 🙂 the writings on the portals are from benefactors who made donations there is also a small park on the shrine grounds

I will walk a bit more around Kobe covered shopping arcades (shotengai) before lunch I found this small alley with many small restaurants in it this one even has Kotatsu (wooden table covered by futon and heated) tables! I decided I wanted to have the famous Kobe Wagyu Beef for lunch

I will go to the famous “Steakland”, a beef restaurant close to Sannomiya station Here I am at my table at “Steakland” the chef is cleaning the teppan (the iron plate where meat is cooked) He is using a wet hot towel to clean it before cooking the meat clean as new!

In this restaurant, you sit all together around the table while the chef grills the meat just in front of you The process starts with butter the chef will then put the meat on the plate with the butter add salt and pepper

The chef will then ask you how much he should cook (raw, medium, well done) when the meat is ready the chef will start cutting it into small pieces I am impressed by the perfection and symmetry of the chef today’sside dish, the chef also cooks some grilled vegetables and garlic (a lot of garlic!)

When the meat is ready it will be served directly on your plate! surprisingly, the chef will add garlic chips directly on top of the meat! the garlic is crunchy and adds taste to the meat

Everything is served with dip sauces for the meat, salad, and a bowl of rice. It was the best meat I had in my life and cost only 5000 Yen! after lunch, a lot of stairs for better digestion! 🙂

I am going to visit the Kitano district, an area of Kobe with many heritage buildings the area is on top of a hill, so there are nice views of the city below There are many heritage buildings here from the colonial period you can enter and visit them for just a few hundred yen

But I also like to watch them from the outside! the stairs here bring you to the Kitano Shrine, where you can also enjoy views of the city it’s a lot of stairs but let’s do it oh no.. this one too is closed for repairs! anyway, it was a great day in Kobe!
