Video No. 5

Hello everyone today weā€™re back at the MinatochoĀ  branch of BOOKOFF Super Bazaar, itā€™s actuallyĀ Ā  the largest BOOKOFF Super Bazaar in KanagawaĀ  prefecture so Iā€™m here a lot. We saw theĀ Ā  lion and the kangaroo version of this SasakiĀ  glass the other day, thereā€™s the lion, itā€™s stillĀ Ā

Here. Kind of reminds me of Lisa Larson, maybeĀ  itā€™s just the face. We are in the section thatĀ Ā  sells mainly non-Japanese products but itā€™sĀ  kind of mixed up, the figurine section here, yeahĀ Ā  it must be difficult for the staff with limitedĀ  training to know where everything comes from, you

Know. This is definitely from Okinawa. It comesĀ  from Samā€™s Teppanyaki. It usually has cocktails inĀ Ā  that. This is I believe probably sandstoneĀ  from Africa, and weā€™ve moved into the vase orĀ Ā  vase section now. This is interestinglyĀ  textured, it looks very scaly but I like itĀ Ā

Itā€™s very very bold, very statement piece. ItĀ  looks like itā€™s a studio pottery, yeah thatā€™llĀ Ā  look really cool, one of a kind right? Too heavyĀ  for me to buy and sell and ship. Yes that one wasĀ Ā

There before, oh this one might just be factoryĀ  made but I like the colors of it. Nice size as well, and Iā€™ve spotted something that I really likeĀ  and this is what Iā€™m going to buy today. This isĀ Ā

A Kiyomizu-yaki, so Kiyomizu it says there which isĀ  from Kyoto, itā€™s Kyoto Ware. I love the color of theĀ Ā  glaze and and the edgings and that gold band inĀ  the middle, so Iā€™m going to get that one. This, thisĀ Ā

Is actually a Kozan kiln little piece. I thinkĀ  we saw this in the first video that I posted, notĀ Ā  the same one but something from the same kiln. ItĀ  doesnā€™t fetch much money so itā€™s okay for personalĀ Ā

Use but not for resale, same with this as well,Ā  very cute though, the color is lovely, and this youā€™d put a really big round kenzan, flower frog, in theĀ  middle of that so that would be cool [Music]

Hereā€™s a nice bamboo piece, it has the vaseĀ  inside which is really good, often thatā€™s goneĀ Ā  you know, so you only have the outside basket.Ā  Thatā€™s Bohemian Crystal, this is handmade JapaneseĀ Ā  Kurata craft glass and the one next to it,Ā  the white one we saw last week, is the sameĀ Ā

As this. So itā€™s Iwata glass, so now we knowĀ  who made that. I love them both, theyā€™reĀ Ā  beautiful, but I am interested in these littleĀ  guys in this baggie. It is from Actus, these areĀ Ā  three wooden birds. Iā€™m definitely getting theseĀ  ā€™cause I know they will be really worthwhile. Weā€™reĀ Ā

In the Japanese figurines and interiors sectionĀ  now but there will be some things mixed up asĀ Ā  you will notice that are from other places,Ā  well letā€™s have a look what theyā€™ve got today [Music] And here we are in the fun 110 yen section,Ā  which is about 75 cents. This I thought it wasĀ Ā  kind of cool but itā€™s just a modern one, maybeĀ  itā€™s probably by Daiso or something like that, andĀ Ā

This it has a sushi shop name on it from Asakusa,Ā  maybe it was a New Yearā€™s gift or something, andĀ Ā  here are a couple from IKEA, and then now we haveĀ  these pink labels that means five items for Ā

110 yen so there are four of these lovely teacups,Ā  with, you have the plum design on there. ThereĀ Ā  probably were five originally but I think theseĀ  are so pretty Iā€™m going to pick them up [Music] I actually really liked this ceramic containerĀ  and I love the color on it, it has no markingsĀ Ā  but the reason why I didnā€™t get it because sadlyĀ  there was a bit of a scratch on the top there. IfĀ Ā

You like fans I usually see one or two in thisĀ  section, you have to dig obviously but youĀ Ā  might find one. I did buy this for myself becauseĀ  this is a calligraphy brush and I like to drawĀ Ā

Ensos with it, and this I didnā€™t get on thisĀ  occasion, Iā€™ve bought them before. This bell wasĀ Ā  really interesting, Iā€™m not exactly sure what itā€™sĀ  carved out of but itā€™s an ox to represent one ofĀ Ā  the Chinese astrological signs. We get theseĀ  usually at shrines, this is also from a mainĀ Ā

Shrine so yeah I just thought it was coo,Ā  I didnā€™t pick it up but it was interesting find Here we have some soy sauce bottles, thatā€™sĀ  a very simple one there. This with the crackledĀ Ā  purple glass, a bit pricier, very nicely made,Ā  and this has got a rose pattern on it so, itĀ Ā  looks like itā€™s pressed glass though, and IĀ  donā€™t know why I didnā€™t buy these two cuteĀ Ā

Things. This, the soy sauce side, is a craneĀ  and then itā€™s a tortoise next to it whichĀ Ā  I would put either mustard or maybe someĀ  chili flakes in there, yeah, theyā€™re reallyĀ Ā  cute. Now we are in the teapots and teacups andĀ  teacup set area, so letā€™s see what weā€™ve got here [Music]

You may have noticed weā€™re now in the sakeĀ  cups and decanter section, the decanters are calledĀ Ā  ā€œtokkuriā€, so yeah thereā€™s all different types here,Ā  itā€™s not a huge section but thereā€™s enough, youā€™llĀ Ā  definitely find something you like Iā€™m absolutelyĀ  certain, and over here are now in the matcha bowlĀ Ā

Section I found this item and I will show you atĀ  the very end how you use this. These glasses areĀ Ā  interesting I wondered how you drink out of them,Ā  whether itā€™s actually comfortable? I donā€™t knowā€¦Ā Ā

They remind me a little bit of the Hario coffeeĀ  jugs that are glass, you know, Hario glass. Here areĀ Ā  some Ryukyu Okinawan glasses, hand blown usually. ThatĀ  looks very, very retro, also Japanese. These are niceĀ Ā

MModern. I like the very heavy solid bases on themĀ  actually. Alright, I have a very, very brief haulĀ Ā  today because I didnā€™t purchase too much. I canĀ  be very frugal, sometimes I go a little bit mad butĀ Ā

In the main I try to be frugal. To be honest thereĀ  isnā€™t too much storage space in the apartment tooĀ Ā  so I have to be careful. I did pick up some jewelry,Ā  this is a brand called ICB in Japan so that willĀ Ā

Be, well I think Iā€™m going to wear it and thenĀ  resell it, and Iā€™m not sure which brand this is butĀ Ā  this is also Japan-made. I like the fact that theyĀ  were knotted between each bead, and I just like theĀ Ā

Color of the dangles on this one, like the lovelyĀ  green, and now for these little birds. Theyā€™re fromĀ Ā  Actus, ā€œA, C, T, U, Sā€, and I can tell you they sold within 2Ā  days of listing. At this point I havenā€™t actuallyĀ Ā

Put any wood oil on them, but I did that, so theĀ  beak and everything was looking like new, and theĀ Ā  person who bought it was so happy with them. SheĀ  really, really wanted them. Sheā€™s been looking forĀ Ā

Them for a long time. so she snapped them up withinĀ  2 days, and I also made a really good profitĀ Ā  margin of 89% so that was a really lucky, luckyĀ  score for me, and here is the Kiyomizu Ware or Kyomizu-yaki vaseĀ Ā

Itā€™s a bud vase, I love, love, love the texture on it,Ā  the color of the glaze is beautiful and that goldĀ Ā  right round there. Itā€™s made with such care. ThereĀ  is a sticker on the bottom still and thereā€™s alsoĀ Ā

A mark. Iā€™ve only seen these on the internet, I sawĀ  one that was kind of a round huge bulbous one, butĀ Ā  Iā€™ve not seen one in this shape, and itā€™s stillĀ  listed, thereā€™s so much interest on it but peopleĀ Ā

Have been trying to get me to reduce the priceĀ  and I havenā€™t got it up on their too high so IĀ Ā  am standing my ground at the moment, and now theseĀ  lovely cups. If you can remember I paid 75 cents, orĀ Ā

The equivalent of, so 110 Yen for four of them, youĀ  could buy five items for that price, and the lovelyĀ Ā  florals are plum blossoms so itā€™s this season,Ā  itā€™s winter time, and this will be TokonameĀ Ā  Ware. Tokoname Ware. This is from Aichi prefectureĀ  and they are quite well known for this sort ofĀ Ā

Red clay like, a terracotta clay, so this shouldĀ  have been a set of five I presume and thatā€™s whyĀ Ā  I went on sale because probably somebody brokeĀ  one of them, but you know theyā€™re lovely IĀ Ā  think four is fine. Iā€™m trying to find the teapotĀ  to match actually that would be good wouldnā€™tĀ Ā

It? Itā€™s hard to read the back of this. Iā€™veĀ  tried but the mark is really hard to see. Okay soĀ Ā  now weā€™re going to move on to this thing. This isĀ  to do with matcha tea, tea ceremony. I bought thisĀ Ā

Tea bowl at um where was it, oh Tomioka HachimanguĀ  Flea Market, or Antique Market so, I should go andĀ Ā  video that for you. This is a chassen which isĀ  a whisk, the matcha whisk, so you wouldnā€™t haveĀ Ā

The plastic in the middle there, I just still hadĀ  it on, but after you finish whisking and youĀ Ā  wash it, if you pop it on there on the chassen-date, thenĀ  it will retain its shape. I bought this matcha bowlĀ Ā

At the same market, antique market. It was actuallyĀ  the sellerā€™s first time at the market that day, andĀ Ā  now for this fan, the folding fan, you can see theĀ  grain of the bamboo. Itā€™s in lovely condition, justĀ Ā

A simple pink flower, maybe camellia or, I donā€™tĀ  know maybe from this angle looks a bit like aĀ Ā  morning glory, Iā€™m not certain, but itā€™s really niceĀ  and I like the bead as well being green and thatĀ Ā

Light pink string on it so really easy to use IĀ  think itā€™ll be elegant to use also with westernĀ Ā  clothing, I donā€™t think it has to be kimono orĀ  yukata. Really nice. These I just got for myselfĀ Ā  they are calligraphy brushes of different sizes,Ā  different thicknesses, so I got them because I likeĀ Ā

To do the swirl Enso, which is a very Zen activityĀ  like swirl it like this, itā€™s harder than youĀ Ā  think actually, and this is also for me, they use itĀ  for making cocktails to strain but I donā€™t drinkĀ Ā

Alcohol much so Iā€™m going to take it with me toĀ  the beach because I often make mocktails there so thatā€™s useful. So this is my haul for today. ThankĀ  you for watching the video and coming shoppingĀ Ā

With me. I hope you enjoyed it and look forward toĀ  seeing you soon in another video. Thank you again Bye!

  1. So happy to have another video to watch! Your manicure looks very nice (and Iā€™m glad you decided not to wear your watch too)!

  2. Lovely finds. Thanks for sharing. Found my first Kokeshi doll at one of my favorite flea markets here in NYC. Sheā€™s a ā€œSayonaraā€ Kokeshi with a scroll that culminates in a pretty swirl of fabric that wraps as if sheā€™s wearing a kimono. I love her but youā€™d be shocked to learn that I had to pay $15 US. Worth every penny to me as theyā€™re not quite as common here as they are in Tokyo. Could it be the start of a collection? Yes, indeed!
