Tour and Paint: Countryside Japan, Nukumi Station. Watercolor painting.

Hello there! Chris TEA (Tour Explore Art) here. In this video of my journey to art, I’m exploring a random countryside station looking for something inspiring to paint. I have never been to this location before, and I’m not sure what I’ll find. I hope that by challenging myself, I can improve my art skills. Nukumi Station is located in Kagoshima, Japan.

Add some blue A little salt to the painting for flavor. That’s pretty cool. Folks, today we’re exploring a random countryside station in Kagoshima, Japan looking for something inspirational to paint. So if you’re curious about countryside Japan, check out this quick 5 minute tour video or just jump straight

Ahead to the painting part. Let’s check it out. It’s very countryside. Can’t even find the vending machine. Nice river though. Oh, I found a shrine. Awesome.。。。 Let’s go check it out. All right, bow to show my respect. Whoa, I didn’t expect this? Looks like some broken roof pieces. So cool breeze here.

Oh, what’s that? Looks like some kind of rice field god. That’s cool. Yeah. That’s pretty cool. Found another shrine. All right, looks like a good spot for lunch. All right, there were a couple of scenes I wanted to paint. I thought about painting the field god scene,

But I think I settled on the scene with the shrine and the street. I like that there’s a street right in front of the shrine that curves around it. I like the little details around it, and that makes them a little more interesting. So let me know what you think I should

Have painted instead. All right, don’t really have a starting point. Just feel like starting wherever I want. So I wanna start with the shrine part. Let’s put some of that gray and just laying down green or wherever I feel like there is. You know, you don’t have to be 100% accurate about it,

Just wherever you feel like. All right, now I’m gonna work on this little path here. Now, if you feel like you’re not finished with the trees, you can always come back here later to add details. Just getting… the outline right. All right, doing the steps would be a little tricky for me.

Do a little gray here. Get the color of the concrete. Doing the steps. I wanna add some blue in there, some darker shadows. All right, now that it’s dried. Let’s add a little detail to the shrine and some details to the forest in the back. Let’s try the street with some grayish blue.

With a flat brush… I just wanna add some colors to grab some interest on the bottom. I don’t know if it’s gonna look good or not. Oh well. You know what? I feel like adding some pink to the street. Why not? And that’s the thing about visiting countryside

Is you’ll meet a lot of nice and curious people On three different encounters, I met people who asked why I was filming there because they don’t get a lot of foreign visitors, but they were nice about it and I enjoyed our conversation. And that’s why I like the countryside.

You meet a lot of humble, nice people. So just everyone visit the countryside once in a while away from the city. Okay, I need to start adding some street lines here. Or else it’s starting to look like a river here. And that’s the thing about watercolor. Once you make a

Mistake, you have to own it. So, you know, tough luck. Let’s try to see if we can do something about it. All right, I think it’s time to move on to the background Or where the forest is. I want to start with some light colors to give a sense of distance.

Let’s try it out. Trying to paint it with different colors, some green… some magenta. Different colors, see if we get something nice. I think I want to start the sky by wetting the paper. Let’s try it out and see how that goes. Then we’re gonna get some blue. Just any type of blue

That’s available in my arsenal. Blot it out with some tissue. See if we get some effects here. Okay, while I wait for the sky to dry, let’s move on to the back. Just adding some colors to the roof just to make it stand out. Okay, we’re gonna add some

Details to the structure here. Okay, now that the sky is dry, maybe I want to do something about it. Some purple, some blue. Add some highlights to the roof here. All right, next I think I want to do the power lines and the little details in between. So let’s try that.

Okay, the next power pole. It’s hard to get these little lines and details. Some details to the pole. Just whatever, just adding any colors I like. That I feel like goes in there. All right, now it’s time to work on the last right corner here. Let’s put some colors in.

Add some blue, some pink, some yellow here. Just throw in more colors around. It’s time to work on this wall here. I like bright colors. Gonna get some blue to outline the walls. All right, then next to the guard rails, add some bluish pink colors to it. Hm, I feel like

There’s some warm colors in here. Just gonna add some pink and blue. See how it goes. All right next, I think gonna add some yellow here to this whatever power line holder it is. All right, next is the grassy area around it. Just grass everywhere, just randomly put grass.

All right, this is the part where I mess up the painting by adding color anywhere and everywhere. But it’s okay because it’s fun and therapeutic. All right, let’s try it out. All right, you know what? I feel like some pink goes here. All right. How about some orange? Yeah, why not? Some reds.

Some blue in there. All right, then add a little salt to the painting for flavor. I like bright colors. Just let the paint do the work. Let’s see what we get. Whatever color you have at your arsenal, just get it in there. Oh, I like that bright turquoise and yellow combination.

All right, let’s just throw some paint around here. Fill it in. Just go around here. Add a little salt for flavor. Well, I may have overdid it, but let’s wait for it to dry. Let the salt seep in. Add a couple more details and… just call it.

So, this is what I came up with on my tour around Nukumi Station. I added a little more details to the shrine. The forest area. The power lines. The street, and the little house on the right. So let me know what you think or what I can improve on.

And I hope you can join me on my next tour, explore, art video. Thanks for watching and take care.

  1. Great to see a side of Japan that is rarely seen by others and the painting is very beautiful, but why did you add salt to it?
