Previously on WeWanderlustCo we went on aĀ day trip to Miyajima Island which is oneĀ Ā of the three most scenic places in JapanĀ we tried their famous oyster Curry breadĀ Ā explored the whole day finishing offĀ watching sunset on the island, todayĀ Ā weāre heading to another prefecture calledĀ Fukuoka unfortunately I had an accident on theĀ Ā
Street on our way to our hotel but moreĀ on that later we spent our day at a hugeĀ Ā local park in Central Fukuoka tried our firstĀ Bento box and got in some bird watching during sunset
The check-out time of Japanese hotels is way tooĀ early for us oh my goodness so much so yeah thatĀ Ā we have to have our breakfast outside RushedĀ out at 10 a.m. on the dot uh we wanted to makeĀ Ā
Sure we didnāt get charged extra but because weĀ have lived this before in Narita yes um booking.com had this thing of like checkout at 11:00 butĀ actually all Japanese hotels have 10a.m.Ā Ā checkouts yeah mostly 10 a.m. so yeah we had theĀ house cleaner knocking on our door last time thatĀ Ā
We actually ended up paying that one extra hourĀ cuz the information was wrong so I think itās uhĀ Ā traumatic for us a little bit thatās why we alwaysĀ make sure weāre like leaving on time but uh yes soĀ Ā
It will be some nice breakfast on the god, lukewarm miso soupĀ outside of the Hotel on this chilly Hiroshima morning yes whereĀ Ā we headed to next it kind of feels nice right yeahĀ itās really fresh and like even though itās aĀ Ā
Cloudy day it still feels nice like thereās hustleĀ and bustle already yeah weāre going to goĀ Ā take the Shinkansen try to make the most outĀ of the JR rail pass, going to head over to Fukuoka thatĀ Ā
Was Shafeenās plan Shafeen has some things for usĀ to do so yeah should be a fun day see you guys from Fukuoka Alright guys Welcome to Fukuoka yeah this is the Hakata station weĀ just arrived just a couple minutes ago soĀ Ā we caught the Sakura train so just forĀ info so thereās the Hikari thereāsĀ Ā the Sakura and thereās the Kodama Kodama makes all the stops and Sakura kindĀ Ā
Of is one of the least we were bypassingĀ all the stations we possibly only stopped what?Ā Ā three stations or so three or four stationsĀ yeah and then yeah we here weāre here we found Santa early look [Music] and heās a Santa with a bigĀ belly too we came to the conclusion that uhĀ Ā
Japan does Christmas way better than the USĀ itās true weāve been hearing a whole lot ofĀ Ā Christmas songs in the malls and storesĀ a whole lot more lighting I donāt knowĀ Ā
Some I feel like back home is you donāt get thatĀ Christmas Vibe or the seasonality its feels cold exactly yeah its not warm and Christmasy but over here, oh yeah And we found another one, so cute and on that note weāre probably going to try our first bento box here in Japan cuz uh we have a plan for todayĀ finally made a plan might go toĀ Ā
Ohori Park lets go and see what type of bento box we can grab and then weāll take it over to the park smells amazing in here smells like sweet pastry dough even though itās a bento box place I donāt know what it is but it smells great
We have to buy something from here, we have to buy [laughter] I think weāre going to go with this because thisĀ doesnāt have any pork in it, we verified. itās got eel in itĀ Ā
Yeah which is pretty amazing Fukuoka is famous for its Gyozas and definitely eel which is Unagi and so thereās some eel in here yeah uhĀ Ā but this is our first Bento box in Japan letās go enjoy Alright tell the people what happened well apparently weĀ Ā
Have too much luggage and I was pushing my luggageĀ and we came to the side of the road where you canĀ Ā go up on the pavement itās like a mini curbĀ yeah and uh I flew up in the air and then whenĀ Ā
Waseem turned around I was on the ground yeah IĀ turned around I turned around Shafeen was on the pavement, oh my God, backpack thrown over 2 feet Shafeensā all there Hey at least no major scratches orĀ anything
I just have like a just like a mini, you canĀ barely see it itās kind of red on my palm and thenĀ Ā the main things is here so if in the next few days youĀ maybe see me limping like kind of like doingĀ Ā
This uh just know that your girl was on the streetsĀ of Japan literally on the street [laughter] accidents doĀ Ā happen in full time travel and thatās okay as longĀ as Iām alive yes and I donāt have to go to theĀ Ā
Hospital yeah weāre able to uh leave our luggageĀ we are staying at the hotel livemax [Music] Guys we made it to Ohori Park, seeing the map IĀ wonder if you could uh go in the middleĀ Ā we actually saw those Swan Boats oh actuallyĀ I see it right now oh letās go check them outĀ Ā
Weāll see weāll see yeah but itāll be amazingĀ to walk all this if anything we might try to do the swan boat But hey, for now got some goodies fromĀ Family Mart and the Bento Box weāll try it out todayĀ Ā was a travel day getting settled into Fukuoka, take you guys alongĀ
The Vibes are so nice I think thereĀ Ā was an old Japanese grandpa on a wheelchairĀ playing some beautiful Japanese old-schoolĀ tunes you know with the harp and all that stuffĀ yeah but itās so nice itās such a beautiful ParkĀ Ā
Yeah itās a city park and as we canĀ see thereās lots of joggers, people cyclingĀ Ā people relaxing yeah by the what is this a lake, yeah and itās aĀ lovely afternoon it is, hey thereāsĀ Ā actually the bridge which you could uh useĀ to get over seeing people on it too letās go
[Music] Uncles got our little entertainmentĀ for the evening hes so cute yeah is relaxingĀ Ā at the park yeah and playing theĀ jams and theyāre quite PleasantĀ Ā for everyone to listen to and relax the DucksĀ are enjoying it oh this is such a pretty pretty spot Konnichiwa Isnāt this nice very nice wow
You know that cute old grandma over there she toldĀ us to take a seat on the bench and she left I feelĀ Ā so bad she insisted that we she truly didĀ sheās like just take a seat here and she got up and
Left I feel so bad she was enjoying her eveningĀ but if anything maybe she was doneĀ Ā and she was like hey how about you guysĀ take in this view We were going to walk the bridge toĀ Ā go on the other side but we will honorĀ her yeah gift, generosity andĀ Ā
Maybe just sit here for a little bit or the girls could sit here lets see or not I wish I could give her a hug yeah oh canĀ you tell everybody like the thing of touchingĀ Ā or no touching or very minimal touching yeahĀ in Japanese culture weāve seen like even likeĀ Ā
Weāve seen like so many friends and girlfriendsĀ and guy friends saying bye to each other on theĀ Ā subway by the train stations andĀ they donāt even hug like probably the bestĀ Ā of friends and theyāre just like bye or like a littleĀ pat on the shoulder or like a patĀ Ā
With your head forehead on the shoulder soĀ itās not a really touchy-feely culture likeĀ Ā uh in the west uh which is fine andĀ we appreciate that and we respect that butĀ Ā yeah she was so sweet itās moments like theseĀ yeah that itās faith in humanity restoredĀ Ā
Yes but yeah everyoneās just been reallyĀ really nice here so no complaints [Music] I think he comes here often Iām capturing all the memories guysĀ itās going to be so many wonderful photos but IĀ Ā think more than like showing it to the world IĀ like to capture stuff so we can always rememberĀ Ā all the moments and relive it when weāreĀ old yeah exactly itās funny cuz Shafeen be goingĀ Ā
Back to uh back to the hotel and going throughĀ the photos and me seeing the photos that sheĀ Ā took and because I did not quite see theĀ composition in that exact moment whatĀ Ā she did uh yeah it just really transcends youĀ back to that moment so yeah itās been a reallyĀ Ā
Wonderful experience yeah especiallyĀ cuz almost wherever you go in Japan itāsĀ Ā like very aesthetic yeah itās easy scenic JapanĀ is a very photogenic country it is it is so they got this part designed really nicelyĀ itās so beautiful uh thereās this couple on aĀ Ā
Rowboat with the sun glistening right behind them withĀ the water glistening behind them beautiful descriptionĀ Ā yeah and theyāre going right underneath theĀ bridge or actually right in front of it looksĀ so nice this is the couple yeah that we tookĀ a photo of the couple that rode into theĀ sunset
Yeah itās so scenic we didnāt know thatĀ you can even rent those little um paddle boatsĀ (row-boats) yeah so you can rent those as well thenĀ we see a whole bunch of people in these uh SwanĀ Ā
Boats itās so nice it just makes me happy toĀ see people on Swan Boats we actually got toĀ Ā see a a swan boat photo bomb the Fuji Kawaguchiko (*Hakone)Ā Tori gate it was so hilarious oh my goodness asĀ Ā
People are standing kind of getting in theĀ middle to get that shot yeah uh this Swan BoatĀ Ā just rolls into frame it was hilarious itĀ was perfect all of a sudden like the uh FocusĀ Ā shifted from the Tori gate to the Swan boat [laughter] what wereĀ you saying, I would like to donate aĀ Ā
Bench at a park or something just like thisĀ so future Generations could use it just like weĀ Ā have and somebody did donate this possibly gotĀ their name on it yeah so probably doesnāt cost much anyways that is so thoughtful and generousĀ of you honey hopefully our wish we makeĀ Ā
Our wish come true we will makeĀ it yeah itās in our hands InshaAllah (God Willing) this has to be one of the coolest Hot DogĀ vans that weāve seen and you know what itās a Toyota
Kombi/hotdogs wow really did not even haveĀ to look at the front badge yeah its a Toyota its so cool soĀ Ā cool converted into a hot dog stand aĀ Mobile Hotdog stand yeah these ducks are so cute look at em
Theyāre very chatty and theyāre pretty like bigĀ and fluffy I think itās the cold yeah [Music] we are finally sat down here enjoying ourĀ beautiful view with so many different typesĀ of birds Fukuoka is a beautiful city we alreadyĀ really like itās sort of a contrast fromĀ Ā
Hiroshima where weāre coming from but itĀ is the sixth largest city in Japan and theĀ Ā second largest port city next to Yokohama yeahĀ um itās actually the fastest growing city byĀ Ā population wise Yokohama being the first PortĀ City this is the second largest so Hakata wasĀ Ā
Known as the Port City yes yeah so itās actuallyĀ a mixture between uh Fukoka and Hakata so andĀ Ā talking about that this city is built on theĀ Hakata Bay and thereās a lot of um there wereĀ Ā
A lot of uh Chinese and Korean influences untilĀ I think like the Japanese took over and then theĀ Ā Japanese settled here I think around 6 or 5 ADĀ weāre not sure but uh yeah this city hasĀ Ā a lot of history why does it haveĀ Chinese influence? because this is the closestĀ Ā
City to mainland Asia yes so second toĀ Tokyo Tokyo is I believe 800 kilometers somethingĀ Ā like that and then this is actually closer atĀ 500 kilometers yeah to Korea yeah so Mainland AsiaĀ Ā letās actually have some uhĀ food that we bought okay so this is our UnagiĀ Ā
Set uh Bento Box it was 1200 yen which seems aĀ bit pricey for you know the little box but weĀ Ā just wanted to do it for the experience and toĀ show you guys what an actual Bento Box may comeĀ Ā
With uh Iām not quite sure what this is likeĀ maybe shredded cheese maybe or something likeĀ Ā oh shredded egg sorry yeah so letās dig into thisĀ uh eel oh is this my first time having eel? maybe
Oh itās very soft .really? Itās so soft it meltsĀ in your mouth wow itās kind of like thatĀ Ā different but um quite fishy I would sayĀ yeah? and letās try the egg with theĀ Ā rice I think my favorite part of every JapaneseĀ meal is rice yeah their rice isā¦ you haveĀ Ā
Your pickled veggies which is a staple inĀ Japanese Cuisine breakfast lunch or dinner itāsĀ Ā called Umeboshi Iām not sure what this is its likeĀ pickled radish pickled cucumbers letās see is it uh spicy or sweet no itās sour I thinkĀ youāll like it I actually like it myself I donātĀ Ā
Know if itās like smoked a little bit itās quiteĀ nice of course your beans and your carrotsĀ Ā and I donāt know what this is but itās like aĀ sesame maybe like grilled tofu uh covered with
Sesame it is not tofu itās like um dessert IāveĀ had this before I just donāt know what itās calledĀ Ā itās like a I guess a Japanese sweetĀ um itās not like a sponge cake but itās like aĀ Ā little spongy inside but itās flour so thereĀ we are a nice lunch/dinner with a beautifulĀ Ā
Beautiful view of Ohori Park but weāre going toĀ go enjoy our meal Itadakimasu [I humbly receive] I forgot to say thatĀ Ā That is being grateful for receiving the foodĀ and yeah what do you think what do you say IĀ Ā
Want to try my maple pancake the Konbiniās haveĀ been a great help for our breakfast lunch andĀ Ā dinner if we ever like canāt find something to eatĀ and weāve been having breakfast from there so uhĀ Ā this is the Maple and margarine pancake fromĀ Family Mart Iāve tried the one from 7-Eleven tastesĀ Ā
Amazing IHOP has competition a lot of it a lot ofĀ it [laughter] but going to try out the Family Mart one forĀ you guysĀ let you guys know how it tastes like yeah soĀ itās basically two pancakes squashed togetherĀ Ā
It has the maple syrup and margarine justĀ like the 7-Eleven one which is amazing letās tryĀ Ā out this one it almost tastes exactly the sameĀ really what makes it awesome is the butterĀ Ā taste the butter taste is amazing and theĀ pancake itself is so fluffy itās got its ownĀ Ā
Sweetness not flavorless itās uh itās got flavorĀ in it and yeah you got the jam sorry the mapleĀ Ā syrup maple syrup Jam amazing itās a itās aĀ nice breakfast Iāve been having it forĀ Ā breakfast lately and or a little snack and weĀ also got this gorgeous souffle cake I always seeĀ Ā
It in 7-Eleven or any other convenience storesĀ but today I finally went for it because I justĀ Ā couldnāt resist but yeah donāt laugh at me Iām notĀ going to gain weight relax God anyway who caresĀ Ā how many calories this is right itās all aboutĀ the experience but look at how nice this looksĀ Ā
Yeah looks so nice rich and creamy and I thinkĀ Iām going to dig in and let you guys know how it is New favorite melts in your mouth so itās like aĀ really soft Souffle like fluffy like not batter fluffyĀ Ā
Cake on top itās very light and Airy and at theĀ bottom you have like flan or Tres leches or yeah aĀ Ā custard cake yeah so that itās really nice andĀ creamy it is not overly sweet at all oh check this
Out woo thatās the caramelized sugar yeahĀ so nice combo super delicious dessert IĀ Ā hope I donāt get addicted to this but thisĀ is a definite must try really like thisĀ Ā we hope you enjoyed coming along with us today weĀ had a nice relaxing day over here at the parkĀ Ā
Travel day was a breeze as well but tomorrowĀ we have a few places that weād like to visitĀ Ā and weāre excited to show you guys a littleĀ bit more of what Fukuoka is all about yeah so if youĀ Ā
