Previously on WeWanderlustCo we went on a day trip to Miyajima Island which is one of the three most scenic places in Japan we tried their famous oyster Curry bread explored the whole day finishing off watching sunset on the island, today we’re heading to another prefecture called Fukuoka unfortunately I had an accident on the
Street on our way to our hotel but more on that later we spent our day at a huge local park in Central Fukuoka tried our first Bento box and got in some bird watching during sunset
The check-out time of Japanese hotels is way too early for us oh my goodness so much so yeah that we have to have our breakfast outside Rushed out at 10 a.m. on the dot uh we wanted to make
Sure we didn’t get charged extra but because we have lived this before in Narita yes um booking.com had this thing of like checkout at 11:00 but actually all Japanese hotels have 10a.m. checkouts yeah mostly 10 a.m. so yeah we had the house cleaner knocking on our door last time that
We actually ended up paying that one extra hour cuz the information was wrong so I think it’s uh traumatic for us a little bit that’s why we always make sure we’re like leaving on time but uh yes so
It will be some nice breakfast on the god, lukewarm miso soup outside of the Hotel on this chilly Hiroshima morning yes where we headed to next it kind of feels nice right yeah it’s really fresh and like even though it’s a
Cloudy day it still feels nice like there’s hustle and bustle already yeah we’re going to go take the Shinkansen try to make the most out of the JR rail pass, going to head over to Fukuoka that
Was Shafeen’s plan Shafeen has some things for us to do so yeah should be a fun day see you guys from Fukuoka Alright guys Welcome to Fukuoka yeah this is the Hakata station we just arrived just a couple minutes ago so we caught the Sakura train so just for info so there’s the Hikari there’s the Sakura and there’s the Kodama Kodama makes all the stops and Sakura kind
Of is one of the least we were bypassing all the stations we possibly only stopped what? three stations or so three or four stations yeah and then yeah we here we’re here we found Santa early look [Music] and he’s a Santa with a big belly too we came to the conclusion that uh
Japan does Christmas way better than the US it’s true we’ve been hearing a whole lot of Christmas songs in the malls and stores a whole lot more lighting I don’t know
Some I feel like back home is you don’t get that Christmas Vibe or the seasonality its feels cold exactly yeah its not warm and Christmasy but over here, oh yeah And we found another one, so cute and on that note we’re probably going to try our first bento box here in Japan cuz uh we have a plan for today finally made a plan might go to
Ohori Park lets go and see what type of bento box we can grab and then we’ll take it over to the park smells amazing in here smells like sweet pastry dough even though it’s a bento box place I don’t know what it is but it smells great
We have to buy something from here, we have to buy [laughter] I think we’re going to go with this because this doesn’t have any pork in it, we verified. it’s got eel in it
Yeah which is pretty amazing Fukuoka is famous for its Gyozas and definitely eel which is Unagi and so there’s some eel in here yeah uh but this is our first Bento box in Japan let’s go enjoy Alright tell the people what happened well apparently we
Have too much luggage and I was pushing my luggage and we came to the side of the road where you can go up on the pavement it’s like a mini curb yeah and uh I flew up in the air and then when
Waseem turned around I was on the ground yeah I turned around I turned around Shafeen was on the pavement, oh my God, backpack thrown over 2 feet Shafeens’ all there Hey at least no major scratches or anything
I just have like a just like a mini, you can barely see it it’s kind of red on my palm and then the main things is here so if in the next few days you maybe see me limping like kind of like doing
This uh just know that your girl was on the streets of Japan literally on the street [laughter] accidents do happen in full time travel and that’s okay as long as I’m alive yes and I don’t have to go to the
Hospital yeah we’re able to uh leave our luggage we are staying at the hotel livemax [Music] Guys we made it to Ohori Park, seeing the map I wonder if you could uh go in the middle we actually saw those Swan Boats oh actually I see it right now oh let’s go check them out
We’ll see we’ll see yeah but it’ll be amazing to walk all this if anything we might try to do the swan boat But hey, for now got some goodies from Family Mart and the Bento Box we’ll try it out today was a travel day getting settled into Fukuoka, take you guys along
The Vibes are so nice I think there was an old Japanese grandpa on a wheelchair playing some beautiful Japanese old-school tunes you know with the harp and all that stuff yeah but it’s so nice it’s such a beautiful Park
Yeah it’s a city park and as we can see there’s lots of joggers, people cycling people relaxing yeah by the what is this a lake, yeah and it’s a lovely afternoon it is, hey there’s actually the bridge which you could uh use to get over seeing people on it too let’s go
[Music] Uncles got our little entertainment for the evening hes so cute yeah is relaxing at the park yeah and playing the jams and they’re quite Pleasant for everyone to listen to and relax the Ducks are enjoying it oh this is such a pretty pretty spot Konnichiwa Isn’t this nice very nice wow
You know that cute old grandma over there she told us to take a seat on the bench and she left I feel so bad she insisted that we she truly did she’s like just take a seat here and she got up and
Left I feel so bad she was enjoying her evening but if anything maybe she was done and she was like hey how about you guys take in this view We were going to walk the bridge to go on the other side but we will honor her yeah gift, generosity and
Maybe just sit here for a little bit or the girls could sit here lets see or not I wish I could give her a hug yeah oh can you tell everybody like the thing of touching or no touching or very minimal touching yeah in Japanese culture we’ve seen like even like
We’ve seen like so many friends and girlfriends and guy friends saying bye to each other on the subway by the train stations and they don’t even hug like probably the best of friends and they’re just like bye or like a little pat on the shoulder or like a pat
With your head forehead on the shoulder so it’s not a really touchy-feely culture like uh in the west uh which is fine and we appreciate that and we respect that but yeah she was so sweet it’s moments like these yeah that it’s faith in humanity restored
Yes but yeah everyone’s just been really really nice here so no complaints [Music] I think he comes here often I’m capturing all the memories guys it’s going to be so many wonderful photos but I think more than like showing it to the world I like to capture stuff so we can always remember all the moments and relive it when we’re old yeah exactly it’s funny cuz Shafeen be going
Back to uh back to the hotel and going through the photos and me seeing the photos that she took and because I did not quite see the composition in that exact moment what she did uh yeah it just really transcends you back to that moment so yeah it’s been a really
Wonderful experience yeah especially cuz almost wherever you go in Japan it’s like very aesthetic yeah it’s easy scenic Japan is a very photogenic country it is it is so they got this part designed really nicely it’s so beautiful uh there’s this couple on a
Rowboat with the sun glistening right behind them with the water glistening behind them beautiful description yeah and they’re going right underneath the bridge or actually right in front of it looks so nice this is the couple yeah that we took a photo of the couple that rode into the sunset
Yeah it’s so scenic we didn’t know that you can even rent those little um paddle boats (row-boats) yeah so you can rent those as well then we see a whole bunch of people in these uh Swan
Boats it’s so nice it just makes me happy to see people on Swan Boats we actually got to see a a swan boat photo bomb the Fuji Kawaguchiko (*Hakone) Tori gate it was so hilarious oh my goodness as
People are standing kind of getting in the middle to get that shot yeah uh this Swan Boat just rolls into frame it was hilarious it was perfect all of a sudden like the uh Focus shifted from the Tori gate to the Swan boat [laughter] what were you saying, I would like to donate a
Bench at a park or something just like this so future Generations could use it just like we have and somebody did donate this possibly got their name on it yeah so probably doesn’t cost much anyways that is so thoughtful and generous of you honey hopefully our wish we make
Our wish come true we will make it yeah it’s in our hands InshaAllah (God Willing) this has to be one of the coolest Hot Dog vans that we’ve seen and you know what it’s a Toyota
Kombi/hotdogs wow really did not even have to look at the front badge yeah its a Toyota its so cool so cool converted into a hot dog stand a Mobile Hotdog stand yeah these ducks are so cute look at em
They’re very chatty and they’re pretty like big and fluffy I think it’s the cold yeah [Music] we are finally sat down here enjoying our beautiful view with so many different types of birds Fukuoka is a beautiful city we already really like it’s sort of a contrast from
Hiroshima where we’re coming from but it is the sixth largest city in Japan and the second largest port city next to Yokohama yeah um it’s actually the fastest growing city by population wise Yokohama being the first Port City this is the second largest so Hakata was
Known as the Port City yes yeah so it’s actually a mixture between uh Fukoka and Hakata so and talking about that this city is built on the Hakata Bay and there’s a lot of um there were
A lot of uh Chinese and Korean influences until I think like the Japanese took over and then the Japanese settled here I think around 6 or 5 AD we’re not sure but uh yeah this city has a lot of history why does it have Chinese influence? because this is the closest
City to mainland Asia yes so second to Tokyo Tokyo is I believe 800 kilometers something like that and then this is actually closer at 500 kilometers yeah to Korea yeah so Mainland Asia let’s actually have some uh food that we bought okay so this is our Unagi
Set uh Bento Box it was 1200 yen which seems a bit pricey for you know the little box but we just wanted to do it for the experience and to show you guys what an actual Bento Box may come
With uh I’m not quite sure what this is like maybe shredded cheese maybe or something like oh shredded egg sorry yeah so let’s dig into this uh eel oh is this my first time having eel? maybe
Oh it’s very soft .really? It’s so soft it melts in your mouth wow it’s kind of like that different but um quite fishy I would say yeah? and let’s try the egg with the rice I think my favorite part of every Japanese meal is rice yeah their rice is… you have
Your pickled veggies which is a staple in Japanese Cuisine breakfast lunch or dinner it’s called Umeboshi I’m not sure what this is its like pickled radish pickled cucumbers let’s see is it uh spicy or sweet no it’s sour I think you’ll like it I actually like it myself I don’t
Know if it’s like smoked a little bit it’s quite nice of course your beans and your carrots and I don’t know what this is but it’s like a sesame maybe like grilled tofu uh covered with
Sesame it is not tofu it’s like um dessert I’ve had this before I just don’t know what it’s called it’s like a I guess a Japanese sweet um it’s not like a sponge cake but it’s like a little spongy inside but it’s flour so there we are a nice lunch/dinner with a beautiful
Beautiful view of Ohori Park but we’re going to go enjoy our meal Itadakimasu [I humbly receive] I forgot to say that That is being grateful for receiving the food and yeah what do you think what do you say I
Want to try my maple pancake the Konbini’s have been a great help for our breakfast lunch and dinner if we ever like can’t find something to eat and we’ve been having breakfast from there so uh this is the Maple and margarine pancake from Family Mart I’ve tried the one from 7-Eleven tastes
Amazing IHOP has competition a lot of it a lot of it [laughter] but going to try out the Family Mart one for you guys let you guys know how it tastes like yeah so it’s basically two pancakes squashed together
It has the maple syrup and margarine just like the 7-Eleven one which is amazing let’s try out this one it almost tastes exactly the same really what makes it awesome is the butter taste the butter taste is amazing and the pancake itself is so fluffy it’s got its own
Sweetness not flavorless it’s uh it’s got flavor in it and yeah you got the jam sorry the maple syrup maple syrup Jam amazing it’s a it’s a nice breakfast I’ve been having it for breakfast lately and or a little snack and we also got this gorgeous souffle cake I always see
It in 7-Eleven or any other convenience stores but today I finally went for it because I just couldn’t resist but yeah don’t laugh at me I’m not going to gain weight relax God anyway who cares how many calories this is right it’s all about the experience but look at how nice this looks
Yeah looks so nice rich and creamy and I think I’m going to dig in and let you guys know how it is New favorite melts in your mouth so it’s like a really soft Souffle like fluffy like not batter fluffy
Cake on top it’s very light and Airy and at the bottom you have like flan or Tres leches or yeah a custard cake yeah so that it’s really nice and creamy it is not overly sweet at all oh check this
Out woo that’s the caramelized sugar yeah so nice combo super delicious dessert I hope I don’t get addicted to this but this is a definite must try really like this we hope you enjoyed coming along with us today we had a nice relaxing day over here at the park
Travel day was a breeze as well but tomorrow we have a few places that we’d like to visit and we’re excited to show you guys a little bit more of what Fukuoka is all about yeah so if you
