Japan Travel – Fantastic Cherry Blossom Festival at Kawazu River

The Cherry Blossom season here in Japan is a very short lived beauty. It is enjoyed and celebrated all over the country.
I wish everyone could enjoy this. It is amazing.

The season usually starts mid March in the south and ends around the end of April in the north. However, the flowers only lasts for one week so the timing is critical if you want to enjoy.

Jumped on the train early morning at Tokyo Station heading for Kawazu Station. It is located at the Izu peninsula in Shizuoka prefecture.

I took the Tokaido Line and switched train at Atami Statin to Ito Line. Ticked was around 3500-4000 yen. There are other travel options also. I think some parts can be covered by Shinkansen.
This train ride took roughly 3 hours but it was well worth it.

The cherry trees along the river were in more or less full bloom. It was fantastic. Waking up and down the river taking all the beauty in. It was a really nice day. with nice weather. There is plenty of food available to buy. One favorite was the onsen footbaths.Another was the Kawazu Sakura flavored beer on the way back to Tokyo.

Izu no Odoriko or The Izu Dancer is a novel written by Yasunari Kawabata, Nobel Price winner, and it is the base for the popular 70’s movie TheDancing Girl of Izu.
