Tsukiji BBQ Guide! Tips for Enjoyment and how to make a reservation! Hi! I’m Akanemaru, born and raised in Japan. This video is about BBQ area in Tsukiji. We’ll share detailed information on how to easily enjoy BBQ and shops where you can buy fresh ingredients.

We’ll also introduce Wagyu and luxurious dishes, so please watch until the end! Now, let’s get started! This time, we’ll introduce TSUKIJI-UOGASHI BBQ TERRACE. It’s located on the rooftop of Tsukiji Uogashi, the center of Tsukiji. On the 1st floor, there are shops where you can buy fresh seafood, and anyone can enter.

On the 3rd floor, there is a food court with 6 shops. There are 2 stations near Tsukiji, and it’s about a 5-minute walk from either one. Tsukiji Uogashi consists of 2 buildings, and the place we’re introducing this time is located on the 3rd floor of this building.

It’s a new BBQ area that opened in May 2023. You can bring ingredients purchased in the Tsukiji area and enjoy BBQ.  It’s highly recommended to buy ingredients at the shops on the 1st floor of this building.  You can enjoy foods that you can’t eat on a food tour at affordable prices.

We’ll explain the fees and how to make a reservation later.  You can bring not only ingredients like meat and seafood, but also dishes such as sushi. By the way, we bought this sushi at Megumi-Suisan on the 1st floor. It’s a tuna specialty store, and you can buy sashimi and sushi at affordable prices.

This set includes 3 types: lean tuna, fatty tuna, and tuna roll.  They are fresh, so they have a beautiful color. The fatty tuna melts in your mouth. It has fat, but the aftertaste is refreshing. The tuna roll has a nice aroma of seaweed. It’s recommended to try lean tuna with salt and wasabi.

You can taste the richness of the tuna. Be sure to give it a try! Let’s start grilling the ingredients using charcoal. First up is shrimp. We bought it at Sanei-Shoten on the 1st floor. It’s a shrimp specialty store, and there are various types of shrimp, including lobster and Japanese spiny lobster.

This time, we chose this large-sized shrimp. Once it turns red, sprinkle some salt on it, and it’s ready.  When you cut the shell on the back with scissors, it’s easy to peel off.  The plump texture is great. It has sweet and rich flavor. Next up is the clam.

We bought it at Tsukiji Watanabe on the 1st floor. It’s a specialty store for shellfish that supplies hotels and high-end restaurants. The large-sized clam at this price is very affordable. When the juices from the clam start to boil, it’s ready to eat. It has a nice texture and sweetness.

It’s not seasoned, but it has a savory flavor and saltiness, making it delicious. It’s recommended to eat it with sake. Next, we’ll make a luxurious dish using scallops, sea urchin, and salmon roe. It’s also recommended to purchase scallops at Tsukiji Watanabe, where we bought the clams earlier. It’s large and thick.

Once it’s cooked, cut it with scissors into bite-sized pieces. We’ll top it with sea urchin. It’s recommended to buy sea urchin  at Kuratatsu on the 1st floor. They sell sashimi in single servings,  so you can try various types. Finally, put some salmon roe on top.

We bought this salmon roe at Tsukiji Nisshin on the 1st floor. It’s a specialty store for fish roe, and they sell items that are hard to find in other shops. This time, we chose this one. Salmon roe is typically marinated with soy sauce, but this one is marinated with salt.

The salmon roe marinated with salt has a popping texture compared to the soy sauce-flavored ones, and you can taste the authentic flavor of the salmon roe. The scallops are sweet, and the sea urchin has rich flavor. The saltiness of the salmon roe is perfect! If you love seafood, this dish is definitely worth trying!

Next, let’s grill abalone. You can get it at Tsukiji Kyotomi on the 1st floor.  It’s a popular shop that sells a variety of seafood such as fish and shellfish.  Once it’s grilled, cut it into bite-sized pieces.  The firm texture is great, and it’s delicious! It’s nice that you can also enjoy premium ingredients with BBQ!

The last item to grill is Japanese beef and Wagyu. We bought these at Oumiya, which is about a 5-minute walk from Tsukiji Uogashi. If you want to buy Wagyu at an affordable price, this shop is highly recommended. First, we’ll grill the Japanese beef.

It’s marbled with just the right amount of fat, and it’s a beautiful pink color. Let’s grill it slowly over low heat to avoid burning. Once it gets a nice sear, it’s ready! It’s recommended to sprinkle with salt and pepper after grilling.

Waiting for it to cool a bit before cutting prevents the flavorful juices from overflowing. It’s cooked to a nice medium-rare doneness. If you were to eat this at a high-end restaurant,  it would likely cost more than twice as much. Let’s eat it with wasabi.

When you put it in your mouth, it melts away. The taste of the meat is rich and delicious! Lastly, let’s grill the Wagyu ribeye. It’s recommended to enjoy this beef by dipping it in raw egg and eating it like sukiyaki. You can buy eggs at Shinkai-shoji on the 1st floor.

It’s an egg specialty store that has been established for 55 years. This egg is called Kiwami, produced in Tochigi Prefecture, and features a red yolk. It’s such a high-quality egg that it’s even used in high-end restaurants. First, we’ll grill the Wagyu until it’s rare. Next, we’ll dip it in a sukiyaki sauce called Warishita.

By the way, we bought it at Oumiya,  the butcher we mentioned earlier.  This sauce is made by a manufacturer in Kyoto with over 40 years of history.  It combines soy sauce, sugar, and more, giving it a pleasant aroma.  Once the pink part disappears, it’s ready to eat.  The Wagyu sukiyaki is done.

Let’s dip the egg well and eat it. The rich taste of the egg and the Wagyu fat is the best combination! It’s creamy and melts in your mouth. It’s highly recommended, so you should give it a try!

Next, we’ll explain detailed information about the fees and how to make a reservation for this BBQ area. Almost everything you need for BBQ,  such as knives and cutting boards, is included in the plan at this place. Chopsticks and plates are also included. Some utensils are available to rent for an additional fee.

There are also seasonings available for a fee, but you can use salt, soy sauce, wasabi, and pepper for free. You can’t bring your own drinks, so if you want something to drink, you’ll need to purchase them at this BBQ area. Payment is accepted in cash only.

You can buy soft drinks from the vending machine. If you want to enjoy more authentic drinks, it’s better to purchase them at Tabitebako,  located on the same floor as the BBQ area. They sell sake and rare beers. The drinks purchased at this shop can be brought into the BBQ area.

You don’t need to take your trash with you, but dispose of it separately. There is also sink and dishwashing detergent. When you’re shopping, tell the store staff that you’ll be eating at the BBQ area. They know a lot about those ingredients,

So if you ask, they’ll probably tell you about their recommended items and how to eat them. You can use the table for 2 hours, and the fee is 2,200 yen per person. If you want to enjoy more casually, the standing area is recommended.

You can use it for 1 hour, and the fee is 1,100 yen per person. There are also table seats with reclining chairs available for large groups. It’s 19,140 yen for 3 hours. You can use it for up to 6 people, and the fee remains the same within that number.

If you choose the 3-hour plan, you can use the cooler box for free. Making a reservation in advance is recommended, but if there are available tables, you can also BBQ without a reservation except on Sundays and public holidays. If you have made a reservation, head to the BBQ area after going shopping.

If you haven’t made a reservation,  first go to the BBQ area, reserve a table, and then go shopping. This BBQ area is closed on Wednesdays. On Sundays and public holidays,  many shops in Tsukiji are closed, so you won’t be able to purchase ingredients such as meat or vegetables.

On Sundays and public holidays, there is a plan available which includes ingredients, but it’s by reservation only, so keep that in mind. There is a reservation site available in English, so you can make a reservation from there. There is a link in the description box.

If it’s not during busy hours, the staff will help with the cooking. It’s recommended to go on weekdays. The staff are all friendly, so don’t worry. Be sure to try the fresh foods from Tsukiji! Well, that’s all for today! See you in the next video! Bye bye!

  2. This is excellent option..most of the time I rather spend money on high quality Wagyu and cook myself than eating at restaurants where they overcharge
