Sometimes you just get off of work and think hey let’s board a bullet train and go somewhere!!!!! Why not visit a place I saw on Instagram earlier this week!!!

I am trying to be more adventurous again but honestly I am now a lot busier than I was, it’s hard to plan things, and I kind of enjoy chilling on the weekends πŸ₯² But!!!! Life is about pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and doing things like this every now and then, and honestly Japan is a great place to solo travel!

Would you do this kind of trip alone? Let me know down below~

JAPAN SOLO VLOG | I traveled to a rural mountain shrine alone like a Ghibli character

So we’re in nagao why I don’t know I kind of just decided to come late last night accidentally overslept and missed the bus out here alone in the mountains what’s the worst that could Happen All right let’s do a room tour this is the room actually I haven’t been in here yet very blue lighting standard here’s the bed that I put stuff on yes it’s a single bed there’s the luggage space there’s the TV and there’s a little fridge yep

That’s the room so we’re in Nagano why I don’t know I kind of just decided to come late last night so I booked the hotel room on my lunch break today booked the bullet train ticket on the local train to the bullet train station

And here we are it is a Thursday night I took tomorrow off of work uh well kind of I’m using the day I worked on the weekend last week to Friday yeah and I haven’t done any research really I just vaguely know I want to go to this one place and I

Know there’s a bus to it every hour that’s all I got it’s kind of snowing not much snow in the city uh it is sorry it’s 11:00 p.m. I came right after work yeah but I think that is the beauty of a solo trip there’s no way I could have

Found anyone to go with me on a Thursday night with 12 hours notice so but I still wanted to go so you know you just have to do what you want to do and yeah I feel like I haven’t been traveling as much since I started working again so I

Want to fix that cuz I do like traveling I’ve just been kind of lazy and tired and it’s really hard to plan things with my job compared to my old job uh anyways we’re just in a business Hotel it’s the cheapest one I could find with like a

10-hour notice it’s not bad it’s fine I think I paid 8,000 Yen which is probably a little on the expensive side but it’s cuz I did it so last minute uh but it’s clean it’s good they have like a cute little amenity bar thing downstairs yeah I love Japanese business hotels it makes

Solar travel so much easier I’m going to go to bed and I’ll talk to you guys in the morning wearing the same outfit cuz I didn’t bring any other Clothes See We speedrun it ran it we speed ran it All right so we’re here at the temple because I accidentally overslept and missed the bus I wanted to take and I wasn’t even sure if I’d come to this actually on my trip cuz I don’t really have that much time but here I am I

Don’t know I’ve been to a lot of these big Temple things so but it’s nice if you’re in Nago you should definitely check it out and the shopping street look really cute maybe next time I come I’ll go I don’t know all right but now

We’re going to hop on the bus to go to where I actually wanted to go I’ll see you there but before we head into the mountains I wanted to take a quick moment to thank the sponsor of today’s video nordvpn we are no stranger to nordvpn here nordvpn is a VPN service

That protects your private and personal information while letting you connect to the internet safely I have been using nordvpn for years now and aside from letting you use the internet safely which is very very important it can change your IP address which basically lets you connect to the internet in

Different countries this is why VPN are so great do you want to watch Geo blocked content I do I’m sure you do too Japanese Netflix for example has tons of anime even really popular ones really new ones like the Apothecary Diaries which I’m watching right now A+ and even

Things like hunger games and I don’t know about you but I need to consume as much media as possible so if you want to expand your media library very easily and get access to almost any show or movie out there then I really recommend downloading nordvpn trying it out for

Yourself it is risk-free with a 30-day money back guarantee and you can use my code at nordvpn.com Allison and Toyo right now to get a huge discount when you buy a 2-year plan in addition to four extra months free so once again thank you so much to North VPN and now

Let’s head back into the Mountains um everyone else got off the bus at the middle Shrine but I just asked him I was like what’s the closest bus stop to the OA like the one with the big tree and he said wait one stop but I was the only one I was literally the only person on

The bus so I don’t know he just told me to go down this this hill I’m just kind of doing it that’s actually also what Google Maps says but like all the official Guides Online say to get off at the chw show The Middle Shrine like

Everyone else did but uh I don’t know whatever uh it’s only noon so I think I’m okay for time it’s cold there’s lots of snow yeah we’re just vibing I’m out here alone in the mountains what’s the Worst That Could Happen H let’s go here I don’t Know Abandoned aler bin or something there’s tons of these in the countryside very short history lesson um a lot of these like y goon and onen hotels and stuff were built in the bubble era when like a lot of people had money and uh yeah that and population

Over work all that now a lot of them are just abandoned run down Etc kind of sad like if you go into most any onon Town they’re going to have abandoned hotels it’s sad all right here we go oh God total Silence all right it’s about a 45 minute walk I think so let’s go This is pretty cool uh I recommend it um it’s actually not that crowded really and I’m at like peak time on a weekday it’s really not that bad but I think we still have about 15 minutes to walk to the main Shrine surrounded by these trees can you see

How tall they are it’s so cool I think the kind of equipment like shoes and clothes you need will depend on the snow so I’m actually glad I came in a week where there wasn’t much snow at all so it’s like quite hard packed and I can

Walk pretty easily so that’s good but if you do come like when it’s like fresh snow or something I think you might need to rent the shoe chain things and stuff yeah lots of a Pill it’s right there and I’m so tired and nobody else is here everyone gave up it got really steep I’m so out of shape ah if her okay would just make it to the red Shrine that I was at earlier most people can do it it’s like a

15-minute walk lightly uphill not really but if you want to go to the top actually you got to be able to walk uphill for like a While I made it and I’m Dying it wasn’t worth it it wasn’t worth going to the top guys it was a lot of hard work and actually as you saw the shrine was like closed so uh yeah maybe you could just go a little past the red entrance Shrine thingy like to where I am at the trees

And then that’s it you can turn around after that at least in Winter maybe the other seasons are better but it’s not really worth it if you’re not really into hiking or whatever like I’m not finally I see the red thing again it’s like 3:00 2:00 3

Wait okay it’s only 2: okay it’s 2:15 and there’s a bus like every hour so I should be okay to get back to it by the time the sun sets we still have like a 30 minute walk to Go I’d say that was worth it at least this part was worth it yeah really not crowded good stuff good stuff see that’s why I think when you come to Japan sure do Tokyo do Kyoto but also add in another kind of random like rural place like this Nago City’s good

Matsumoto is good if you go to one of these places too I guarantee your trip will be a lot more I don’t know what’s the word fulfilling meaningful I guess I don’t know and also everyone’s super nice here I always forget how nice people are like Tokyo people are nice

But like BR people that’s another Level by the way I’m cold now I was hot earlier and I’m cold it’s like 25Β° here uh Fahrenheit like minus 2 or 3Β° C I guess um it’s not that bad for like we’re on a mountain I think it’s hard to prepare you really need to like look at the

Weather cuz if it was like super snowy and windy I don’t I don’t know if i’ be making it guys all right I’m going to go to the bus now we have about an hour 30 minute walk from here hope I make It I did it with 2 minutes to spare this is the best St I went to uh Co man iguchi it’s much closer than the middle Shrine I like well okay like 10 15 minutes but that’s a lot when it’s uphill one Way

  1. The big trees in the snow were beautiful! The crowed places in Japan were not my favorite, I liked the rural areas.

  2. This is so quaint!! Solo traveling is so much fun and that soba/tempura dish looked soooo good.

  3. Your skin complexion is beautiful here, fresh air suits you very well. It’s a beautiful place, thanks for showing us around, a great get away, very good for the soul & body rechargeBig ❀️ from Bosnia

  4. Last minute "hey I want to go to (insert random destination) here" trips are, at least to me, the best experiences.

  5. I love your solo travel Vlog ❀ thank you for sharing. It is really helpful preparing my next solo trip in japan 😊and also, loved how you edited the video πŸŽ‰

  6. Thanks for that Alison, loved this video. Good on you for heading off to somewhere you wanted to go. Shake those cobwebs off!!!!! The trees were so beautiful. Are they Hinoki trees? Cheers, Muffy from Oz (Australia)

  7. To quote the wise words, written on many billboards in Tokyo Station: "Go Nature, Go Nagano."
I went there with my wife on our Japan trip and we really liked it. Especially Azumino, where we rented bikes, went through the mountains, hiked to waterfalls, looked at the worlds biggest wasabi farm, watched random wild monkeys, and just really enjoyed the vibes. It feels really relaxed, I'd highly recommend it, if you're into nature.
Other recommendation: Gujo Hachiman, ridiculously pretty and really nice in the summer.

  8. Love the spontaneous solo trip! Hope you do more of it and that you bring us along for the ride! 😊

  9. It looks great during winter, but I imagine good foliage as well in the tall tree area if the trip was during autumn

  10. Very serene and peaceful, purrfect vlog once again Allison!! We greatly appreciate you taking us on a once in a lifetime journey!!

  11. You said the snow was good, but did you need boots or would sneakers not be enough? Awesome vlog btw^^

  12. Those trees look amazing! I'm glad you had clear weather for your excursion. Looks too cold for me! πŸ₯Ά

  13. That was a cute video ! Solotrips are fantastic…leaving your comfort zone every once in a while makes you grow like one of those beautiful trees β™₯️

  14. Nagano!!! My old stumping grounds. I hope to be close to it when I come back. The mountains are so beautiful, especially in winter!!❀

  15. Reminds me of when I went on some solo trips to more rural areas by bus in Japan with having an hour long bus ride followed by a 1.5 hour walk to get to your destination LOL. It's funny how it doesn't seem bad in Japan but in the US I would never do that.πŸ˜…
