I rode the future vehicle, a self-driving bus! A bus without a driver’s seat. A bus without an accelerator, brake, or handle. What kind of bus is a self-driving bus? The answer is in this video. good morning! I am currently on my way to a place called Yahiko Village in Niigata Prefecture.

🔊We will soon arrive at Tsubame-Sanjo Station. Tsubame Sanjo. A town where metal processing is popular. It’s a city with lots of delicious ramen restaurants🍜. We will take a taxi to our destination, Yahiko Village. Since it is a rice-producing region, there are many rice fields. Arrived at Yahiko Village Office!

Thank you for bringing me this far. This is a self-driving bus. Cute bus 🥰. A design that small children will enjoy. A rabbit is drawn on the pink car body. This rabbit is the official character of Yahiko Village, and his name is “Mikopyon.”

Basically, you have to make a reservation before boarding this bus, but if there are seats available, you can board the bus without making a reservation. Sensors are installed around the bus to automatically recognize obstacles. You can recognize obstacles on the road and avoid them. Is this a game controller?

Will this controller be used when a human needs to drive the car? Hmm 🧐? Xbox??? Real game controller? ? ? Is this a monitor that allows the human eye to check the safety of the surrounding area? I’ll take a ride 🚌. Capacity is 7 people. narrow. It feels quite narrow.

Is it possible to charge a mobile phone? This is an emergency stop button. Don’t touch it. Self-driving buses require seatbelts to be worn. departure! From here, head to a place called “Kitayoshida Station”. Travel time: 41 minutes (5.7km). It’s an electric car, so it’s very quiet. This bus has one operator on board.

In an emergency, the operator will drive the bus manually. By the way, the bus fare is currently free! Since it is a self-driving bus, there is no driver’s seat. There is no accelerator or brake. But the bus is moving. A strange feeling🙄. Currently, the bus makes four round trips a day.

It only operates on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. It does not operate on public holidays. “Stop” sign. Stop. Judgment of self-driving buses. No people are involved. Turn left slowly. Mt. Yahiko. You can go to the top of the mountain by ropeway. From the top of the mountain, you can see the magnificent Echigo Plain.

Hey 🧐? Looks like someone is going to take the bus. I came to a road with a lot of traffic. The bus doesn’t move easily. Start. Emergency stop! The bus seemed to sense danger. Make sure there are no cars coming and turn left. Signs like this were seen all over Yahiko Village.

The maximum speed is 20km/h, so the cars behind me might be frustrated. I arrived at Kitayoshida Station. The bus arrived at the final stop without any major trouble. It was my first time riding a self-driving bus, and it was very interesting. I didn’t have any fear as it was going slowly. After this…

I got back on the bus and headed back to Yahiko Village Office. This time, sit in a seat where you can see the front. Just to be clear, the person driving the car is not a person. People are just watching the bus drive. There is one operator on board just in case, but

There is little the operator can do for now. This self-driving bus seems to be very capable. The maximum speed is 20 km/h, so some cars will overtake you. The bus is about to turn right. The bus makes a right turn after making sure there are no oncoming vehicles or pedestrians.

The bus makes a careful right turn. An intersection with a traffic light came into view. Ah 😯! ! Vertical signal! Niigata Prefecture, where Yahiko Village is located, is an area where it snows a lot.

Many of the traffic lights in Niigata are oriented vertically to prevent them from falling or bending due to the weight of snow. Ah 😲! A car is stopped in front. There is space next to the car, but will this bus be able to pass through? The bus moves forward carefully. 👍👍👍👍👍.

There is a stopped car in front of you (second time). As was the case the first time, the operator was not involved in driving the bus. At the discretion of the bus, it passes by stopped cars. The operator just has a controller. I arrived at Yahiko Village Office.

A child riding with me said, “I don’t want to get off.” Me too. Self-driving bus. I think there are many issues, but I hope that it will become established as a new means of transportation for the elderly in the near future.

I also personally wish that “self-driving buses” would become popular not only in Yahiko but also in other areas. I would like to take a look inside the bus one last time. It was a short time, but thank you very much! Thank you for watching the video until the end!
