RVers DO This ONE Thing To Find Local GEMS // Maumee Bay State Park OHIO

šŸŒ‰Stan and Rhonda from Over The Hill Adventures have finally finished their amazing journey exploring Pure Michigan. In this episode of Rally Bound & Beyond, with sad hearts they cross over the Michigan/Ohio border headed for Maumee Bay State Park near Toledo, Ohio. Minutes before arriving, they cross over the Maumee River on the beautiful Veterans Glass City Skyway Bridge. Caught totally off guard, when they enter Maumee Bay State Park, they are met with beautiful wildlife dancing across the meadow. They discover that Maumee Bay is located on the shores of Lake Erie. Itā€™s one of the largest and most beautiful state parks they have ever been too. They compare it to their favorite state park, Fall Creek Falls State Park in Tennessee.

Come with Stan and Rhonda as they continue their adventures in this episode of Rally Bound & Beyond as they travel across this beautiful country God gave us all to explore.

Here oh yeah hit traffic and made stops of course you know and all that gas so how are we going to say this weā€™re at Mommy mhm mommi Bay State Park State park and itā€™s really nice we were fortunate to get it nice I donā€™t know how we scored this

Full hookup spot made some magic and diligence once you know it space number seven yeah was the only one that we saw open that was a full hookup site there was hundreds of electric sites electric only but this was the only full hookup when we looked and it was like well when

We first looked there wasnā€™t even a full hookup and all of a sudden it was there so we just felt very fortunate we were going to grab we grabbed it up and uh weā€™re here for two nights so last night and one more night and then weā€™re going

To go head to Alum Creek State Park and weā€™re going to have a little bit of family time yeah there so thatā€™s going to be real nice weā€™re going to go scope out the the state park for you guys right now weā€™re going to take our bikes

And there was a bike trail and um we want to show it off a little bit itā€™s really beautiful itā€™s gorgeous gorgeous yeah I think the city is like what less than 30 minutes away and then uh the only thing we we got out of the truck

That a big long neck I never realized how long their necks are look at that guy they long and theyā€™re very fast too a common snapping turtle isnā€™t strong enough to amputate your fingers however it doesnā€™t mean that the bite cannot seriously hurt you thank cute oh my

Gosh this is called a reunion cabin look at that Lodge and Conference Center this is the back side of the lodge is that gorgeous cornhole weā€™re doing a scavenger hunt have you heard anybody talk about that yet no if youā€™re any chance you are from west of the Mississippi yes joking right

West of the Mississippi yeah weā€™re from Arizona okay so this is fun stuff doing like oh how fun weā€™re doing like a team scavenger the hardest one he has his dri of the Mississippi absolutely it is seven points for us yay you Thum if youā€™re not safe with you know if you donā€™t

Feel we will delete it as soon as this thingā€™s over with what church you guys are have to Community Church outside of Detroit we donā€™t hit take a picture of someone St from the west of the Mississippi can you if anybody asks okay is she there you go oh awesome thank so

Fun you rock Pastor heā€™s sitting at the table over heā€™s like the judge of this thereā€™s five of our teams like running around like knocking off weā€™ got two hours to do these 34 things can we help you with anything else donā€™t give anybody any information nobody else knows weā€™re from New

York got a white any thatā€™s all we got to get is a fish croppie that is so we cing is this a retreat for you guys is it a retreat yeah come on babe you got to make this happen with your pink this is fun all right so they had

To write an original worship song photo of the entire team posing in such a way that represents a a Bible verse this is so fun oh D oh a human pyramid howā€™d that work we did it thatā€™s great a refle photo of reflection of the entire team

So the last thing on their list is a fish so they have to get a fish and thatā€™s what stand is trying to help out here oh my gosh oh a fish oh good luck you knock him off too you knocked him off you knocked him off

You knock him off too the bucket hurry hurry hurry in the bucket though thatā€™s count did you count the hook on the hook knock him off knock him off put can you put him you want me to put him on Robert yeah for us thatā€™s all right itā€™s a fish we donā€™t

Church so now we got to go findim thank you again for all your help weā€™re going to go through sites 55 through 75 electric only got water and a dump station sure yeah letā€™s go through the Dum station thereā€™s your trash hoses provided for your convenience look at that Stan saw a lot

Of people with the full hookups who didnā€™t have their hoses out so that could be why you can get your water right here City water left handle and wait donā€™t pump okay so here is our sight seven look at that got our bike ride in

And got the dogs ready to go weā€™re going to take them for a walk but isnā€™t that fabulous there is so much space in between all of the SES um this just been it was so quiet last night yeah across the way I mean like way over there look at all that

Space in between the two sites crazy behind us just grass and you can just see the backyards of everybody down there so Ohio Style no fences green grass is that awesome full hookups over there fabulous sā€™s taking me out to dinner we didnā€™t realize there was a a

Restaurant in the lodge until this morning after our bike ride and we were talking to those folks that were doing the scavenger hunt and we thought yeah that sounds good weā€™re going to go to dinner and so you guys know how Iā€™ve always said that Fall Creek Falls is my

Favorite state campground in Tennessee in Tennessee I think this the close second yeah I canā€™t think of a massive state park with activities like this one I you know I just this place just keeps going and going and going a lot has happened on this street hasnā€™t it yeah a lot I think

Weā€™re just you know what I think Iā€™m doing I think Iā€™m preparing physically and mentally for a seven-year-old a 2-year-old and a what is he 9mon old so excited so excited I just know itā€™s going to be go go go you know and uh so yesterday it I donā€™t know last year when

We came out to see him in the trailer uh our she was five at the time or just turned just turned six and she wouldnā€™t stay with us in the trailer so our granddaughter and sheā€™s is like nope not without Mom and Dad you know so this

Time weā€™re like well weā€™re not going to push it but I really have high hopes you know maybe sheā€™ll sheā€™ll do it sheā€™s seven now and I was talking to her mom on the phone and she said uh ask ask in the background ask Omi cuz she calls me

Weā€™re Ma and and opa but she calls me Omi which I love very much sheā€™s kind of named me that since she could talk and uh she says askie where will I sleep if I was to stay with them so we were telling her how the dining room table

You know the dinette turns into a bed and so I think she got super excited about that so of course Iā€™m looking at little like cute you know we got to make sure we have the sā€™more makers and the I think thereā€™s the Jiffy Pop um holder

That you can hold over the fire and everything I want to make it extra special for her so Iā€™m excited let us know in the comments if you guys camp with your your your grandkids um your little ones how that goes we always camp

But we T camped we did have the class A for 2 years when our kids were probably 12 13 13 12 and probably what would that put five and six five and seven something like that they were really young but uh the the conversion van and they were really super little in the

Conversion van so weā€™ve always weā€™ve always enjoyed when we can travel with the kids so looking forward to it so um give me some ideas in the comments for the next time we camp with our kids cuz I know this is just the beginning can you imagine having all eight of them oh

No I think we got the best view in the house just kidding stop cuz look this oh man but weā€™re right by the fountain well sorry about the vacuuming oh yeah of course I decided to pick up the camera when the vacuumā€™s going but they just opened at 5:00 itā€™s like 5:20

We were the first ones in and thereā€™s one other couple so um gosh weā€™re getting all kinds of attention so far this is good guys yes canā€™t believe this place these are Pub pretzels with cheese and cheese Iā€™m going to do is honey mustard going double dip I think the

Honey Mustardā€™s better M theyā€™re so good oh my gosh do the double dip oh my go do the double dip this place is really nice we are like in a state park you guys this is amazing thereā€™s a lodge thereā€™s golf course I mean a beach I I donā€™t

Know weā€™re kind of Blown Away I didnā€™t take a bite almost fish and chips thatā€™s good she gave him Double T sauce M and then I got the garlic butter chicken woohoo green beans K donā€™t look at that thatā€™s an amoretto sour oh my gosh theyā€™re

Huge all right cheers baby so this is our bartender right so thank you Amy they so good we were like shocked at the size of the am sours weā€™re like oh my gosh theyā€™re so so yummy itā€™s oh good Iā€™m so so so good this is Tina sheā€™s our

Our waitress extraordinaire down the road is a family-owned farm called flightā€™s pumpkin farm f l e TZ at all Northwest Ohio itā€™s like a secret that people love their doughnuts are all homemade and itā€™s just a beautiful site itā€™s not big so you have your own cozy place to go and they have

Apple cider slushes that are of this world and my my family comes home from New York City just to have the shredded chicken sandwich I keep telling you sandwiches too I keep telling you you got to talk to the locals for the big secrets so today is our travel day we

Are going to head to Alum Creek State Park in Westerville Ohio um weā€™re getting some propane filled and it was just kind of cool because we were sitting here and the sign says download our app weā€™re at Tractor Supply and so we thought well letā€™s give that a try I donā€™t know if

You refill your propane attractor Supply but you pull up you got to go in notify somebody kind of wait I mean itā€™s never that long but we just realized this really deep thing so we got the app on our phone and then it says here ready for your propane refill so we clicked

There and then it itā€™s uh you know picks up where weā€™re at of course and then it says uh request refill when you arrive at one of our stores simply notify us that youā€™re outside and weā€™ll come out to help you with propane refill press

The button and off you go that is so cool so you donā€™t even have to get out of the car uh to go in the store and wait and they actually take your card right there so you can pay pay for the gas uh and off you go so super

Convenient we just thought we would share that with you weā€™re going to do that weā€™re going to hit the Walmart uh weā€™re going to refill our water bottle we always do that that has really been a game changer for us refilling that water bottle uh we just take it into Walmart

Itā€™s always at the back of the store kind of near the groceries the the dairy and whatnot water their drinks and things like that so weā€™ll refill that again it costs like $2.30 to refill our 5 gallon water bottle then of course we have our little pump on top makes it super

Convenient and easy we use it all the time you know to refill our water bags we refill the the dog water the coffee water everything used for cooking our our water bottles and whatnot so um just a couple tips so then weā€™re going to take care of that and then weā€™re going

To head over to that doughnut place that pumpkin farm that our waitress Tina was telling us about last night so she was showing us pictures of these things you guys are not going to believe what these look like I mean we try to steer clear from that stuff but we got too tempted

Last night looking at those photos weā€™ve got to give it a shot plus itā€™s just like a little local Farm I I guess itā€™s not something we want to miss and uh then weā€™re going to fuel up that way with sugar and go back get ready and head out I smell Donuts

Those are the specials today chocolate thatā€™s it chocolate youā€™re not getting that caramel apple thing oh they have a maple donut they fill the chocolate in with oh my gosh look at that goodness I had trouble just getting the one I I wanted a pumpkin I wanted a

Maple donut hey weā€™re going to eat it here I might have to go back no why are why are you eating my my donut that is your dut right there weā€™re probably going to share this one too well you might as well share the chocolate one too

Wow see how you are whatā€™s mine is yours and whatā€™s mine is mine isnā€™t that the way it is what alib Baba thereā€™s such a little goat there little little guy right over there heā€™s going ding ding ding ding ding ding what he doing

We get to go see the little goat and do the corn maze and do the no weā€™re not doing the corn maze we ainā€™t got no time for this babe I have to eat this with a fork donā€™t make fun this this has been here since 1906 these are the Little Gems you

Find when you talk to the locals when you talk to the locals okay just remember I didnā€™t have very much of this I just want to let you know and itā€™s almost gone so you were busy over there eating that one yeah I got distracted but then you

Went in for the kill I might have to go get my pumpkin donut yeah let us know what would you have ordered the special how would they know they donā€™t know the menu I think I showed them the menu oh they had pumpkin Donuts they had the maple okay these Donuts are are

Different Donuts theyā€™re just different theyā€™re look good Iā€™m going to just scrape the paper you heard of cheese paper this is called dut paper had to I had to grab it if I didnā€™t it would have been he right this he left me this one he left me this

  1. Four years ago, we bought a big 5th wheel. It has two bedrooms, a loft with a queen-sized bed, and a sofa that makes into a bed. We can sleep 7 comfortably. We have 5 grown children. Our youngest daughter turned 18 last June so she always went with us on weekends and trips. That will probably be different this summer. Our oldest daughter usually comes on weekends and stays a night with her two little girls, aged 5 and 3. The 5-year-old usually goes with us and will stay without her mother. Last fall we went to Custer State Park and had 4 of our children and our 2 grandchildren all there for a few days. It was a blast. It is why we got such a big RV. We, too, have had different modes of camping throughout the years. We started out with a tent, had a pop-up, a little travel trailer, an old motorhome, a big 4 room tent, an older 5th wheel, another bigger travel trailer, and now our 42 ft. 5th wheel. I think some of the best memories were made in the little travel trailer when our children were younger and we were, too. I hope your granddaughter will stay with you this time.

  2. Our grand kids love dill pickles. We took pint mason jars and all the ingredients to make overnight refrigerator dill pickles. They thought that was the coolest thing ever. Along with the usual campfire and smores.

  3. Well, I eat my donuts the old fashioned way, with my hands. No forks. And this video make me hungry for a DONUT.

  4. Our grandkids love going camping with us. Last year we stayed at Disney Fort Wilderness and were the support unit. We took them back to the RV for lunch and naps. And also, gave our adult children time to do adult rides and also we let them have a Disney date night. Highly recommend going the 1st week of December so the kids and experience the decorations at rv site.

  5. This place looks great, I'm gonna put it on our must go to list, not to far for us we live in upstate NY, we take two of our grands with us at least 2 trips a season, they love it especially my 10 year old grandson, he loves to go bike riding on the trails.

  6. I had to chuckle when, in the last video, you said you had a 6.5 hour travel day to drive through Michigan. You dud really well getting through at 8.5 hours. Ann Arbor is heavy traffic with it being a collage town and the the University of Michigan hospital there. But 23 is the safest way to come down the state and stay away from Detriot while towing. The state park there in Ohio is amazing we've driven through it but never have gotten back there to actually camp. I'll have to out them on the list for next year. Way to go in helping out the staff of Grace church!!!
When it comes to the grand kids. I would have some travel ganes, coloring book and crayons or markers, or sidewalk chalk kids love that stuff. We've camped with our grandkids and those are some special memories!

  7. Thanks for showing us the state park. We will put it on our list of if we are in the area. We have been to Falls Creek Falls, and really liked it as well.

  8. We overnighted twice at Maumee coming back from the UP to PA. Thx for the Primo water tip. We'll try it this year on the SD / MI trip!

  9. I have my 7 year old grandson every Tuesday and Thursday all summer and we take him every other weekend and a full week every year to a local campground. We had a 2970 RL and this will be our first year with a motorhome. He calls me Mommy-Nana because I have him so often he would call me mama and I had to remind him Iā€™m his Nana so the mommy Nana stuck. šŸ˜‚We bring a hammock and board games but when youā€™re camping, you donā€™t really need much. šŸ˜Š

  10. We have 9 grands. Five of them camp with us every summer for at least a week but usually two. We hike, play games, puzzles, ladderball, darts, kayak and swim for activities. We take a pizza oven and everyone makes their own pizzas itā€™s a favorite meal.

  11. Wow thatā€™s a amazing state park. We donā€™t do a lot of them just because they are so hard to get a reservation at. Looks like we will have to try a day or two before and see if it works. Great video treasure hunt, donuts, beautiful park. Thanks From Wisconsin

  12. Our daughter lives in Toledo. We love Maumee Bay state park. We walk on the walk way may times. We will camp there this summer. Ohio is full a very great state parks.
