Trip to Hida Takayama. Similar to deoxyribonucleic acid. I’m now in Nagoya City. Nagoya is the fourth most populous city in Japan. 2.3 million people live here. Please subscribe to my channel of 2.3 million people. Today I’m going to Takayama. There are two ways to get to Takayama: by bus and by express train.

Express train : 5,610 yen (about 37.4 $) Bus : 3,400 yen (about 22.6 $) I chose the bus because it is cheaper. If you have a jr pass, the express train is better. The bus is scheduled to depart at 07:45.

If you don’t make a reservation in advance, you may not be able to get on the bus because it is full. The bus I will take today is also full. 07:45 The bus departed from Nagoya Station. It will take about 3 hours to arrive. Oh! Snowy scenery! Takayama is a heavy snowfall area.

In some areas, the snowfall can reach more than 2 meters. The snow makes me want to dive. If I dive into this snow… The Takayama trip will turn into a hospital trip. 10:15 Arrival at Takayama Nohi Bus Center. Takayama City

This is a tourist destination where visitors can enjoy traditional culture and scenery such as old townscapes. It’s visited by 3 million tourists a year. Please subscribe to my channel of 3 million people. My first destination is the limestone cave. Take a bus to get there. One way 900 yen (about 6.0$) 10:40

The bus departed from Takayama Nohi Bus Center. Tranquil scenery. There is still snow in some places. It’s said that there is very little snow this year. 11:11 Arrive at the “Shonyudo-Guchi” bus stop. There is a free shuttle bus to the limestone cave. That is this shuttle bus!

I like that bus, but he may not like me. I could not get on it because it was full. Very sad. The bus arrived. It’s just me and the driver in the bus, so it is practically a chartered bus.

I wanted to take a chartered bus, so I didn’t take the bus earlier. I’m not lying!… 11:22 “Hida Great Limestone Cave” A limestone cave discovered in 1965. It’s popular for its fantastic sight. Admission fee 1,100 yen (about 7.3$) The atmosphere is similar to that before boarding an airplane.

It’s said to be 1.9 degrees Celsius inside here. Let’s go! This is a limestone cave about 800m long. This used to be the sea. It took 250 million years to form these limestone cave. Wow! Beautiful! “Helictite” It’s a stalactite that hangs down with twists and turns.

It’s hard to tell if they are twisting and turning because they are so far away… It’s said to be a very rare stalactite from an academic point of view. I arrived at a large space. “Ryuuguu No Ya Kei” The highest ceiling in the cave. Sooooo beautiful. The stalactites are illuminated with blue lights.

This is to prevent the growth of moss. Very mysterious. It’s like being in a game world. There are many stalactites called “straw” in Hida Great Limestone Cave. This white, elongated stone is the “straw”. The center is hollow like a straw. From there, drops of water fall like rain.

This is the reason why it is raining in the stalactite caves. Oh! Sake brewery! There is a lot of sake. Inside the limestone caves, the temperature stays low all year round. They say that temperature is perfect for keeping sake. Then let’s drink it right away. ??? Closed. Very sad

I wonder which way to go. This road is a dead end. This colorful road is the “Aishin Spot”. Various LED lights create a fantastic atmosphere. It’s said that if you walk through here with your lover, your love will deepen. I walk through here with my favorite Emma Watson. No one was here.

I walk through here alone and lonely. This is the Cave 2. A plant called “udo” is being grown here. It’s a luxury food. It’s grown here because it is best grown in a dark place. From here, there are stairs and an uphill climb. It’s quite tough. “Happiness Waterfall”

There are several waterfalls in this limestone cave. “Crown” It looks just like a crown. A member of the royal family saw this and named it “Crown”. Very narrow! A steep path continues. This is the cave 3. “The World of the Moon” Wow! It’s as if I have really come to the moon.

It costs 11 billion dollars to go to the moon. You can arrive at this moon for about 7.3 dollars. Affordable moon travel. Shrine. Let’s pray. What is the benefit of this shrine? They say you will be blessed with a child. I don’t have a girlfriend, so it doesn’t matter.

This is the end of the limestone cave. Walk to the exit. Looking out the window… “Ice Canyon” They are made by pouring water on the mountain slopes and freezing them. The highest point is 30 meters high. It’s said to be illuminated at night. Take the bus back to Takayama Station. 13:33

Arrive at Takayama Nohi Bus Center. Let’s have lunch. There is a hamburger shop near the bus stop. “Matsuki Burger” The shop opened in 2022. I will order this. Matsuki Burger Combo 1,860yen(about 12.4$) burger, fries, coke Looks delicious. This meat is Hida beef. Hida beef is Japanese black beef raised in Gifu Prefecture.

It’s one of the most popular Wagyu beef. So delicious! The meat is very juicy. In Japan, beef is ranked from A5 to C5. This meat is the highest quality A5. 15:00 I will visit a popular museum in Takayama. 15 minute walk from the station. “Takayama Showa-kan”

This museum takes you back in time to 70 years ago. Let’s go! At the entrance, there are sweets for sale. Most of them are very cheap, less than 100 yen (about 0.67$). Admission to the museum is 1,000 yen (about 6.7$) Move to 70 years ago is complete. Very nice atmosphere!

It’s nostalgic! I say out loud naturally. But I was not born in 1950, so I don’t know the city back then. Restaurant. Food is already prepared. I cannot eat it because it is a food sample. This is an electronics shop. Old TV. Old washing machine. Old iPhone.

These exhibits were collected over 35 years. You can actually touch the exhibits. This is a retro game machine. It’s like a pinball. You put a 10-yen coin in. You win if it goes into one of the three holes. If it goes in here, you lose. Very difficult! This is a toy store.

Board games. Masked Rider. Old Nintendo Switch. This is a police station. I wonder if policemen used to work out here. Go to the second floor. This is a classroom. The classroom of 70 years ago is reproduced. 16:44 Go to the hotel where I will stay. “Hotel and Spa Gift TAKAYAMA”

Opened in March 2023. 5-minute walk from Takayama Station. 10 minutes walk from the old town. Very accessible hotel. 1st floor. There is a lounge and front desk. Amenity items are taken from here. Coffee maker. You can drink as much as you like. Check-in is complete. My room is on the third floor.

I chose this hotel because of its excellent facilities. There is a hot spring, sauna, restaurant, etc. Arrived at the room. Double room. Let’s take a look at the view outside. City view. Open another curtain. This is the room where the fireman comes. Large TV The bed is a double bed. Yay!

It’s so comfortable that it makes me sleepy. Room clothes. Hangers. 8 hangers. Towels for the spa. Electronic kettle and telephone. Stylish cups. I would like to have one, but I will be arrested if I bring it back. Hair dryer Refrigerator Bathroom

I will not use it since I will be going to an onsen. Washlet toilet I booked the plan including breakfast. 12,331 yen (about 82.1 $) Let’s go see the hotel facilities. Go to the 1st floor. Vending machine. There are vending machines on the 1st, 6th, 8th, and 9th floor. Plenty of alcoholic beverages.

Microwave oven. Water server Ice machine Looks like someone forgot to bring ice. Two coin-operated laundries. I will take a short walk. 17:42 “Old Townscape” Very popular tourist attraction. Eating tour is popular here. Unfortunately, most stores are closed at night. The history of this town dates back about 400 years.

Long ago, there was a military commander named Nagachika Kanamori. He was the builder of Takayama Castle. He also promoted the development of the castle town. “Old Townscape” is a part of the castle town. At night, there are few people, so it is a good time to take pictures. One-two-three… Great view! 18:10

Let’s have dinner. 5 minutes walk from Old Townscape. “Kyo-ya” You can enjoy local cuisine of Takayama. This old house has been relocated. Menu list I order this. Beer 500 yen (about 3.3 $) Delicious! I like to drink, so I always order this. Preparation for the meal has started.

This is “Hoba Miso” with beef. This is a typical local dish of Takayama. Hoba means this leaf. It’s so cold in this area that the ingredients freeze. Therefore, it is said that Hoba Miso started when the ingredients were baked with miso on the leaf. “Hoba Miso Set Meal with Hida Beef”

2,400 yen (about 16.0 $) The beef is Hida beef. It smells very good. Best to eat with rice. Looks delicious! So delicious! Hoba and miso smell great and the beef is tender. If I was rich, I would have ordered another one! 19:40 I’m back at the hotel. I go to the 9th floor.

There is an onsen and sauna on the 9th floor. You can enjoy the hot spring and sauna with a nice view. End of the first day. Good night. Day 2 I will go out early in the morning. It seems to have snowed last night.

I want to take pictures of the snowy Old Townscape. 7:27 Arrived at “Old Townscape”. No snow… There are ditches on both sides of the road. They put snow in here when it snows. They also use it as water for daily life. It was early in the morning, so there were few people.

If you want to take pictures, night or early morning is the best time. One-two-three… Great view! The store opens around 10:00. Let’s come back later. Back to the hotel. Let’s have breakfast. The restaurant is on the first floor. Breakfast is a buffet. Looks delicious! You can eat as much as you want.

Steamed buns! I brought a variety. The menu is rich in Takayama ingredients. Hida beef. You can have a bowl of seafood in the morning. Yes, it is delicious! I had another bowl of seafood. Check-out time is until 11:00. You can spend a relaxing time at the hotel. 10:55 I arrived at Old Townscape.

Stores have started to open. Let’s enjoy the eating tour. The first restaurant I entered was… “Funasaka Sake Brewery” It’s a sake brewery with a history of 200 years. There are many sake breweries in Takayama. This is because Takayama’s cold climate and water quality are ideal for sake brewing.

You can enjoy sake tasting here. First, buy a medal here. Next, buy a cup. Capsule toy. Next, choose sake. “Miyamagiku” This is the representative brand of this brewery. Delicious! I bought it again. You can enjoy a variety of sakes. “Kotte Ushi” The restaurant with the longest line in Old Townscape.

It’s a restaurant where you can eat Hida beef sushi. “Hida beef sushi” 1,000 yen (about 6.7 $) A5 grade Hida beef. Salt flavor, Soy sauce flavor, and Gunkan. Salt-flavored beef sushi. Rice is stuck on it. Delicious! The meat melts in my mouth. The salt enhances the flavor of the meat. “Gunkan”

This is also delicious! Eggs and meat go well together. I have an unfortunate announcement. This is the last one. I am a little sad. If I don’t come here, I won’t have a chance to eat it. See you! 5 minutes later. I bought it again! It’s so delicious that I bought it twice!

“Iwatoya” This is a cotton candy store. They sell various kinds of cotton candy, but… I order this one. “Sukiyaki” 1,080 yen (about 7.2 $) Looks like a cloud. Push in the cotton candy. I can see the sukiyaki. Looks delicious. This restaurant has the concept of promoting the charm of Hida Takayama.

The beef, vegetables, and seasonings are all from Takayama. Delicious! The meat melts in my mouth. “Kissako Katsute” This cafe is a 140-year-old townhouse that has been renovated. It was also the model for the cafe that appears in the popular Japanese anime “Hyouka”. I will order this pumpkin pudding. Pudding was sold out.

I order another dish. “Warabi Mochi” 700 yen (about 4.7$) Looks delicious! So delicious! It’s chewy and sweet! That’s the end of this trip. See you on the next trip.

  1. That cotton candy surprised me. I was thinking it’s a dessert 🍨
I wish old streets at Hida Takayama extend their operating hours. Many shops closed when the sky turned dark 😀😀
