Previously on WeWanderlustCo we visitedĀ Gion, Kyotoā€™s geisha district and to ourĀ Ā  surprise spotted some beautiful geishes duringĀ  the day we walked around wandering through theĀ Ā  streets until we reached Kiyomizu-Dera whichĀ  houses Kyotoā€™s pure-water Buddhist temple andĀ Ā  Shinto Shrine. We ended with an incredibleĀ  Sunset but today is more sobering for usĀ Ā

As we explore two Monumental places inĀ  Hiroshima. A garden with a 200-year-oldĀ Ā  tree that survived the bombing, and ground zero,Ā  where the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park now stands Itā€™s so cold outside good morning guys, Ohayo Gozaimasu yeah so today is a travel day weā€™re going toĀ Ā  be traveling over to Hiroshima. First timeĀ  visiting there itā€™s going to be an hour andĀ Ā  a half bullet train ride so we should be thereĀ  in a couple hours and then kind of exploreĀ Ā

The grounds and then after that we areĀ  going to take a ferry ride over to Miyajima IslandĀ Ā  and visit one of the three most scenic placesĀ  in Japan yeah itā€™s going to be a jam-packed dayĀ Ā

Today we are starting off early trying to get all that in today and then weā€™ll be in aĀ Ā  different city tomorrow so yeah letā€™s get thisĀ day started letā€™s go wander whoā€™s prowlingĀ the streets in the morning [laughter] oh snaps almost got run overĀ  so weā€™re here waiting at the train station butĀ Ā

One thing I wanted to point out was the waitingĀ  rooms that they have because it gets so cold andĀ Ā  the waiting rooms are actually heated so nice. so niceĀ right. the trains are heated the waiting rooms areĀ Ā

Heated, the trains are on time Japan truly is livingĀ in the future it is it is itā€™s way ahead of its time Enough of this I want to go fast this is the greatest day of my life So guys our plan for today is to lock outĀ  bags here at the station and just kind ofĀ Ā  walk over to the Memorial Park InsteadĀ of carrying it around, they have lockers atĀ Ā  stations. we found one letā€™s go try it outĀ for the first time so we found a helpful tourist a local guide

Arigato Gozaimasu thank you so much she helped us out so much in finding the baggage storage place and then gave us so much information too, and ifĀ Ā  you need a free guide when youĀ  come to Hiroshima station theyā€™re everywhere thank you so much Welcome to Hiroshima

All right guys quick little updateĀ  on our baggage situation so yeah it was a fail,Ā Ā  it was a fail but in a way uh weā€™re kind of leftĀ in a limbo in a way right yeah cuzĀ Ā  uh yeah that uh tourist information lady wasĀ so helpful she actually brought us to theĀ Ā

Secondary baggage storage area which is like overflow baggage in a way everybody had theĀ Ā  same plan as we did so all the storage lockersĀ were full Iā€™m pretty sure itā€™s like really safeĀ Ā  but itā€™s kind of like in an open container whereĀ  everyoneā€™s bags just go in there I think itā€™s likeĀ Ā

Slightly tagged right or something I believeĀ  so yeah all of our electronics is in Waseemā€™s bag and weā€™re goingĀ Ā  to put that that or store that there our plan right now is toĀ walk over to the hotel walk over to the hotelĀ Ā

Hopefully they keep it if not we kind of thoughtĀ  about uh going to a station thatā€™s not busy yeahĀ Ā  so literally taking the next train over to MiyajimaĀ  getting off at the next station, the closest stationĀ Ā  and hopefully getting lockers there becauseĀ  uh as the crowds get off at Hiroshima stationĀ Ā

Everybody goes staright to the lockers oh they swarm for so I donā€™t thinkĀ anybodyā€™s probably thinking about a stationĀ Ā  over or second station these are the strugglesĀ of having and thinking outside the box tooĀ Ā  right yeah actually yeah Iā€™ve neverĀ  thought about that is donā€™t go to like a popularĀ Ā

Station go to a station prior or after that yeahĀ  and lock your luggage letā€™s see if it works yeahĀ Ā  but uh right now hopefully the hotel takes itĀ  yeah thatā€™s the best bet yeah itā€™s kind of tappingĀ Ā  into our exploration time damn it letā€™s goĀ

Quick little update okay yeah Ta-Da! Finally free of all the heavy baggage so weā€™re able to thankfully leaveĀ  our luggage over here at the hotel usuallyĀ Ā  theyā€™ll do that but I guess it just depends onĀ the hotel, yeah letā€™s head on over to our first spot letā€™s go, to the park We have finally made it over to our firstĀ stop here at the Shukkeien Garden it is a beautifulĀ Ā  Japanese garden dating back to 1620 and actuallyĀ  itā€™s not too far from Ground Zero of the nuclearĀ Ā  attack on Hiroshima and uh this space was aĀ  refuge for the victims back then yeah um andĀ Ā

Actually, unfortunately, not all of them survivedĀ  uh because by the time Aid was rendered to themĀ Ā  and medical supplies arrived uh a lot of themĀ  had passed away but it is a beautiful gardenĀ Ā  itā€™s lined up with Gingko trees and a whole lot ofĀ  leaves Gingko leaves yeah itā€™s so beautiful isnā€™t itĀ Ā

Yeah and the Maple Leaves yeah this wholeĀ  garden is so scenic yeah itā€™s so Serene yeah so SereneĀ Ā  um so Shukkeien actually stands for shrunken sceneryĀ  Garden yeah so as you walk around the gardenĀ Ā  you get to see miniature valleys, mountaintopsĀ  actually, thereā€™s a highest point in the gardenĀ Ā

Which acts as Mount Fuji and you could actuallyĀ  see the entire Garden from thereĀ Ā  They also have a Bamboo Grove which looks exactly likeĀ  Arashiyama yeah especially when you walk the center andĀ Ā  you look up amazing but yeah they have what carp,Ā  they have Koi fish, turtles um they haveĀ Ā

Little Bridges across the pond itā€™s so scenicĀ  and you stand from one place and look at theĀ Ā  the other side itā€™s just so beautiful they alsoĀ  have Tea Gardens yes um I mean tea houses, tea ceremonies Iā€™ve actually got to see a fewĀ  ladies coming out of it yeah theyā€™re so cute allĀ Ā

Dressed up in their kimonos and all that well weĀ did not go to the Tea Garden in Arashiyama in Kyoto butĀ Ā  to have visited this, this is so worth it soĀ worth the 260 Yen per person definitely yeahĀ Ā

I could spend hours yeah itā€™s so scenic likeĀ  everywhere you look itā€™s just the stairs going up, the trees lining up the stairways you know when theĀ Japanese kind of carve out the bonsai or they trimĀ Ā  it out, thatā€™s how the garden feels like everythingĀ  is so purposely done yeah manicured yeah soĀ Ā

Beautiful but itā€™s so incredible to think that allĀ  that happened and it was shut down and thenĀ Ā  they renovated the place and then they opened itĀ back up in 1951 so I mean itā€™s now just a beautifulĀ Ā

Space you can think about history weā€™re walkingĀ  on yes history but itā€™s such a peaceful peaceful space For you guys. Thatā€™s a Gingko leaf so prettyĀ  so nice guys so the tree behind us isĀ Ā  actually the only surviving tree of the blast um itā€™s estimated to be aroundĀ Ā  200 years old but the most beautifulĀ  part about it is the leavesĀ Ā

To think that the uh tree is still uh aliveĀ  and well yeah and this Leaf is from the Tree [Somber Music] [Music] how beautiful is this it isĀ  incredibly beautiful check it out with the little pockets, rays of sunshine comingĀ  through and hitting the leaves and allĀ Ā

The gingko leaves are just likeĀ  itā€™s like youā€™re walking on a bed ofĀ Ā  Ginko leaves its so beautiful. Well you get aĀ  chance to walk on it. I guess so. Lead the way wow this is like what dreams areĀ made of exactly hey this is yourĀ Momijigari

This is my momijigari thank you so much beautiful. so we have yellow we have rustĀ orange letā€™s take a seat and enjoy the view yeah this is our mini bamboo grove so if you doĀ  miss the Arashiyama bamboo grove and find it with lotsĀ Ā

Of tourists, rest assured you can always comeĀ  to Hiroshima and have your own little Arashiyama Bamboo grove experience right here at Sukkeien Garden its so beautiful so niceĀ  right and barely anyone here nobody yeah wow guys this is a review ofĀ  Golden Drip Coffee weā€™re taking a short breakĀ Ā

Short break, vending machine break so we thoughtĀ  weā€™d get some hot coffee little did we know itĀ Ā  was going to be this small but weā€™re going toĀ  enjoy it anyway yeah but before we start theĀ Ā  review how was experience at the Garden? wellĀ weā€™re still at the Garden yes um but walkingĀ Ā

The grounds it was so Serene itā€™s one of the mostĀ  beautiful gardens that Iā€™ve been to yeah in allĀ Ā  of my uhā€¦Iā€™d have to agree yeah travelsĀ yeah right? you guys definitely have to come hereĀ Ā

If youā€™re in Kyoto or Osaka, just kind ofĀ  you know take an hour and a half train ride downĀ Ā  to Hiroshima uh pay your respects check out thisĀ  Garden like itā€™s rarely covered, Iā€™ve neverĀ Ā  seen yeah Iā€™m so happy to be hereĀ  it was really worth the trip yeah

Itā€™s so small look at your hand, wait look at your hand put yourĀ  hand up put your palm up [laughter] what okay It better be good okay try it go ahead no words? itā€™s pretty watered downĀ  right after this weā€™re heading to somewhereĀ Ā

Very important and a little update on today yeahĀ and tomorrow you want update them? yeah we kindĀ Ā  of um reconfigured our trip so Hiroshima wasĀ  supposed to have been only a one-day trip but uhĀ Ā

It has become a two-day trip now yeah we extendedĀ  for, weā€™re going to go back to the hotel and extendĀ Ā  for one more day one more night um just so weĀ  are able to go visit Miyajima because it is one ofĀ Ā

The 3 Scenic places in Japan and we canā€™t missĀ  it cuz weā€™re already here yeah um yeah yeah todayĀ Ā  would have totally been a rush mhm we spentĀ  a lot of time at the Garden we started lateĀ Ā  due to the whole bag situation so would highlyĀ  recommend arriving at Hiroshima station aĀ Ā

Little early mhm we didnā€™t want to rush this wholeĀ  experience of being here so we just wanted to takeĀ Ā  our time and you know just give it the timeĀ  soak it in yeah soak it in give it the time thatĀ it deserves

Shafeen and her Gingko leaves she wasĀ walking around collecting them so cute [laughter] so nice Hey do you guys know you could consumeĀ  Gingko leaves? Itā€™s actually a blood vesselĀ Ā  dilator oh yes and itā€™s good to lower cholesterolĀ  yes right so itā€™s pretty relaxing yeah they comeĀ Ā

In supplement form which Iā€™ve taken before andĀ  they also have tea form, you could drink Gingko teaĀ Ā  super excited for this but to think they haveĀ  uh Gingko trees everywhere around Japan so awesome [Music] [Music] weā€™ve been seeing differentĀ  manhole covers in different cities yesĀ Ā  uh one in Osaka different ones in KyotoĀ  uh Shizuoka, Tokyo, so weā€™ve been documenting yesĀ Ā  so this oneā€™s for Hiroshima this has to beĀ the biggest tree that weā€™ve seen that isĀ Ā  so beautiful with like multicolors thereā€™sĀ  green thereā€™s yellow thereā€™s orange thereā€™sĀ Ā

Rust orange uh thereā€™s Reds thereā€™s MaroonsĀ  it looks beautiful so beautiful and itā€™s so tall so weā€™re passing by the BeautifulĀ  Hiroshima Castle it is standing beautiful and tallĀ Ā  and it kind of reminds us of the Osaka castleĀ  like it is standing so nicely in this almostĀ Ā

Sunset light and the reflection is so beautiful right? yeahĀ  and the thing is thereā€™s no crowds thatĀ Ā  you have to fight over to get a glimpse ofĀ  the castle itā€™s itā€™s all here in the open I feel like Hiroshima is one of those underrated destinations nobody talks about [Music] [Somber Music]

We made our way over to the peace Memorial ParkĀ  this is exactly Ground Zero of the nuclear attackĀ Ā  on Hiroshima yes uh so that happened in 1945Ā  that was the first time ever an atomic bomb wasĀ Ā  ever used on mankind on that morning ill-fatedĀ  morning uh 8:15 a.m. on August 6th the firstĀ Ā

Uh atomic bomb was detonated in this area andĀ  actually yeah we got to see the A-bomb Dome theĀ Ā  only building thatā€™s still remaining, earlier on weĀ  got to see the only remaining tree from the blastĀ Ā

From back in the day uh yeah so this Memorial Park pays tribute to the almost 200,000 lives um itĀ Ā  varies 140,000 to 200,000 lives lost um duringĀ  that period some lost instantly and thenĀ Ā  some lost due to radiation we have the flameĀ of Peace we got to see the childrenā€™s MemorialĀ Ā

Paying tribute to all the children lost. Feel likeĀ  uh visiting Hiroshima this is something not to miss feel like uh we have to pay tribute toĀ all the lives lost If youā€™re coming to HiroshimaĀ Ā

This is one of those things that you haveĀ  to come see for yourself yeah um to just see theĀ Ā  atrocities of humanity but then Humanity againĀ  Rising Up From the Ashes, literally, and makingĀ Ā  the best out of situation the flame of peaceĀ is lit until the last nuclear bomb has beenĀ Ā

Removed from the earth and thatā€™s when itā€™ll turnĀ  off but for the time being itā€™s lit we still haveĀ Ā  more work to do as humans exactly yeah but uhĀ  it serves as a reminder of what humankind isĀ Ā

Capable of and uh itā€™s an experience to comeĀ  out here yeah so decided to extend that oneĀ Ā  day because wanted to spend all the time hereĀ  uh so yeah hopefully tomorrow will be MiyajimaĀ Ā  On a lighter note on a light note yeahĀ  yeah we hope you guys enjoyed coming with usĀ today

Weā€™ll catch you guys in the next videoĀ  Bye And guys also we wanted to take this time outĀ Ā  to pay respect to the lives lost so if youĀ  would like to join us on this 15 seconds of silence [Somber Music] [laughter] so cute itā€™s super cute
