Previously on WeWanderlustCo we visited Gion, Kyoto’s geisha district and to our   surprise spotted some beautiful geishes during  the day we walked around wandering through the   streets until we reached Kiyomizu-Dera which  houses Kyoto’s pure-water Buddhist temple and   Shinto Shrine. We ended with an incredible  Sunset but today is more sobering for us

As we explore two Monumental places in  Hiroshima. A garden with a 200-year-old   tree that survived the bombing, and ground zero,  where the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park now stands It’s so cold outside good morning guys, Ohayo Gozaimasu yeah so today is a travel day we’re going to   be traveling over to Hiroshima. First time  visiting there it’s going to be an hour and   a half bullet train ride so we should be there  in a couple hours and then kind of explore

The grounds and then after that we are  going to take a ferry ride over to Miyajima Island   and visit one of the three most scenic places  in Japan yeah it’s going to be a jam-packed day

Today we are starting off early trying to get all that in today and then we’ll be in a   different city tomorrow so yeah let’s get this day started let’s go wander who’s prowling the streets in the morning [laughter] oh snaps almost got run over  so we’re here waiting at the train station but

One thing I wanted to point out was the waiting  rooms that they have because it gets so cold and   the waiting rooms are actually heated so nice. so nice right. the trains are heated the waiting rooms are

Heated, the trains are on time Japan truly is living in the future it is it is it’s way ahead of its time Enough of this I want to go fast this is the greatest day of my life So guys our plan for today is to lock out  bags here at the station and just kind of   walk over to the Memorial Park Instead of carrying it around, they have lockers at   stations. we found one let’s go try it out for the first time so we found a helpful tourist a local guide

Arigato Gozaimasu thank you so much she helped us out so much in finding the baggage storage place and then gave us so much information too, and if   you need a free guide when you  come to Hiroshima station they’re everywhere thank you so much Welcome to Hiroshima

All right guys quick little update  on our baggage situation so yeah it was a fail,   it was a fail but in a way uh we’re kind of left in a limbo in a way right yeah cuz   uh yeah that uh tourist information lady was so helpful she actually brought us to the

Secondary baggage storage area which is like overflow baggage in a way everybody had the   same plan as we did so all the storage lockers were full I’m pretty sure it’s like really safe   but it’s kind of like in an open container where  everyone’s bags just go in there I think it’s like

Slightly tagged right or something I believe  so yeah all of our electronics is in Waseem’s bag and we’re going   to put that that or store that there our plan right now is to walk over to the hotel walk over to the hotel

Hopefully they keep it if not we kind of thought  about uh going to a station that’s not busy yeah   so literally taking the next train over to Miyajima  getting off at the next station, the closest station   and hopefully getting lockers there because  uh as the crowds get off at Hiroshima station

Everybody goes staright to the lockers oh they swarm for so I don’t think anybody’s probably thinking about a station   over or second station these are the struggles of having and thinking outside the box too   right yeah actually yeah I’ve never  thought about that is don’t go to like a popular

Station go to a station prior or after that yeah  and lock your luggage let’s see if it works yeah   but uh right now hopefully the hotel takes it  yeah that’s the best bet yeah it’s kind of tapping   into our exploration time damn it let’s go

Quick little update okay yeah Ta-Da! Finally free of all the heavy baggage so we’re able to thankfully leave  our luggage over here at the hotel usually   they’ll do that but I guess it just depends on the hotel, yeah let’s head on over to our first spot let’s go, to the park We have finally made it over to our first stop here at the Shukkeien Garden it is a beautiful   Japanese garden dating back to 1620 and actually  it’s not too far from Ground Zero of the nuclear   attack on Hiroshima and uh this space was a  refuge for the victims back then yeah um and

Actually, unfortunately, not all of them survived  uh because by the time Aid was rendered to them   and medical supplies arrived uh a lot of them  had passed away but it is a beautiful garden   it’s lined up with Gingko trees and a whole lot of  leaves Gingko leaves yeah it’s so beautiful isn’t it

Yeah and the Maple Leaves yeah this whole  garden is so scenic yeah it’s so Serene yeah so Serene   um so Shukkeien actually stands for shrunken scenery  Garden yeah so as you walk around the garden   you get to see miniature valleys, mountaintops  actually, there’s a highest point in the garden

Which acts as Mount Fuji and you could actually  see the entire Garden from there   They also have a Bamboo Grove which looks exactly like  Arashiyama yeah especially when you walk the center and   you look up amazing but yeah they have what carp,  they have Koi fish, turtles um they have

Little Bridges across the pond it’s so scenic  and you stand from one place and look at the   the other side it’s just so beautiful they also  have Tea Gardens yes um I mean tea houses, tea ceremonies I’ve actually got to see a few  ladies coming out of it yeah they’re so cute all

Dressed up in their kimonos and all that well we did not go to the Tea Garden in Arashiyama in Kyoto but   to have visited this, this is so worth it so worth the 260 Yen per person definitely yeah

I could spend hours yeah it’s so scenic like  everywhere you look it’s just the stairs going up, the trees lining up the stairways you know when the Japanese kind of carve out the bonsai or they trim   it out, that’s how the garden feels like everything  is so purposely done yeah manicured yeah so

Beautiful but it’s so incredible to think that all  that happened and it was shut down and then   they renovated the place and then they opened it back up in 1951 so I mean it’s now just a beautiful

Space you can think about history we’re walking  on yes history but it’s such a peaceful peaceful space For you guys. That’s a Gingko leaf so pretty  so nice guys so the tree behind us is   actually the only surviving tree of the blast um it’s estimated to be around   200 years old but the most beautiful  part about it is the leaves

To think that the uh tree is still uh alive  and well yeah and this Leaf is from the Tree [Somber Music] [Music] how beautiful is this it is  incredibly beautiful check it out with the little pockets, rays of sunshine coming  through and hitting the leaves and all

The gingko leaves are just like  it’s like you’re walking on a bed of   Ginko leaves its so beautiful. Well you get a  chance to walk on it. I guess so. Lead the way wow this is like what dreams are made of exactly hey this is your Momijigari

This is my momijigari thank you so much beautiful. so we have yellow we have rust orange let’s take a seat and enjoy the view yeah this is our mini bamboo grove so if you do  miss the Arashiyama bamboo grove and find it with lots

Of tourists, rest assured you can always come  to Hiroshima and have your own little Arashiyama Bamboo grove experience right here at Sukkeien Garden its so beautiful so nice  right and barely anyone here nobody yeah wow guys this is a review of  Golden Drip Coffee we’re taking a short break

Short break, vending machine break so we thought  we’d get some hot coffee little did we know it   was going to be this small but we’re going to  enjoy it anyway yeah but before we start the   review how was experience at the Garden? well we’re still at the Garden yes um but walking

The grounds it was so Serene it’s one of the most  beautiful gardens that I’ve been to yeah in all   of my uh…I’d have to agree yeah travels yeah right? you guys definitely have to come here

If you’re in Kyoto or Osaka, just kind of  you know take an hour and a half train ride down   to Hiroshima uh pay your respects check out this  Garden like it’s rarely covered, I’ve never   seen yeah I’m so happy to be here  it was really worth the trip yeah

It’s so small look at your hand, wait look at your hand put your  hand up put your palm up [laughter] what okay It better be good okay try it go ahead no words? it’s pretty watered down  right after this we’re heading to somewhere

Very important and a little update on today yeah and tomorrow you want update them? yeah we kind   of um reconfigured our trip so Hiroshima was  supposed to have been only a one-day trip but uh

It has become a two-day trip now yeah we extended  for, we’re going to go back to the hotel and extend   for one more day one more night um just so we  are able to go visit Miyajima because it is one of

The 3 Scenic places in Japan and we can’t miss  it cuz we’re already here yeah um yeah yeah today   would have totally been a rush mhm we spent  a lot of time at the Garden we started late   due to the whole bag situation so would highly  recommend arriving at Hiroshima station a

Little early mhm we didn’t want to rush this whole  experience of being here so we just wanted to take   our time and you know just give it the time  soak it in yeah soak it in give it the time that it deserves

Shafeen and her Gingko leaves she was walking around collecting them so cute [laughter] so nice Hey do you guys know you could consume  Gingko leaves? It’s actually a blood vessel   dilator oh yes and it’s good to lower cholesterol  yes right so it’s pretty relaxing yeah they come

In supplement form which I’ve taken before and  they also have tea form, you could drink Gingko tea   super excited for this but to think they have  uh Gingko trees everywhere around Japan so awesome [Music] [Music] we’ve been seeing different  manhole covers in different cities yes   uh one in Osaka different ones in Kyoto  uh Shizuoka, Tokyo, so we’ve been documenting yes   so this one’s for Hiroshima this has to be the biggest tree that we’ve seen that is   so beautiful with like multicolors there’s  green there’s yellow there’s orange there’s

Rust orange uh there’s Reds there’s Maroons  it looks beautiful so beautiful and it’s so tall so we’re passing by the Beautiful  Hiroshima Castle it is standing beautiful and tall   and it kind of reminds us of the Osaka castle  like it is standing so nicely in this almost

Sunset light and the reflection is so beautiful right? yeah  and the thing is there’s no crowds that   you have to fight over to get a glimpse of  the castle it’s it’s all here in the open I feel like Hiroshima is one of those underrated destinations nobody talks about [Music] [Somber Music]

We made our way over to the peace Memorial Park  this is exactly Ground Zero of the nuclear attack   on Hiroshima yes uh so that happened in 1945  that was the first time ever an atomic bomb was   ever used on mankind on that morning ill-fated  morning uh 8:15 a.m. on August 6th the first

Uh atomic bomb was detonated in this area and  actually yeah we got to see the A-bomb Dome the   only building that’s still remaining, earlier on we  got to see the only remaining tree from the blast

From back in the day uh yeah so this Memorial Park pays tribute to the almost 200,000 lives um it   varies 140,000 to 200,000 lives lost um during  that period some lost instantly and then   some lost due to radiation we have the flame of Peace we got to see the children’s Memorial

Paying tribute to all the children lost. Feel like  uh visiting Hiroshima this is something not to miss feel like uh we have to pay tribute to all the lives lost If you’re coming to Hiroshima

This is one of those things that you have  to come see for yourself yeah um to just see the   atrocities of humanity but then Humanity again  Rising Up From the Ashes, literally, and making   the best out of situation the flame of peace is lit until the last nuclear bomb has been

Removed from the earth and that’s when it’ll turn  off but for the time being it’s lit we still have   more work to do as humans exactly yeah but uh  it serves as a reminder of what humankind is

Capable of and uh it’s an experience to come  out here yeah so decided to extend that one   day because wanted to spend all the time here  uh so yeah hopefully tomorrow will be Miyajima   On a lighter note on a light note yeah  yeah we hope you guys enjoyed coming with us today

We’ll catch you guys in the next video  Bye And guys also we wanted to take this time out   to pay respect to the lives lost so if you  would like to join us on this 15 seconds of silence [Somber Music] [laughter] so cute it’s super cute
