Welcome to Tokyo Station! Today I’ll be riding the Shinkansen for the first time in my life. After scanning my PASMO card and the QR code from my ticket at the entrance gates, I got this ticket. A one-way ticket cost 6070¥ (40$) Let’s go to the train now.

Today we’re taking the Hikari 507 train. This train runs on the Tōkyō-Okayama route on the “Tōkaidō Line”. The train I’ll be riding is a N700 Series Shinkansen. It has 16 cars and a total length of about 400 meters (1312 feet). This is my car. Today we’re riding in standard class with reserved seats.

As you can see, the joints between the cars are covered with aerodynamic covers. The train is 3.36 meters (11 feet) wide and has a 2×3 seating arrangement. Each set of seats can be rotated 180 degrees. This is my seat. WOW! There’s so much legroom here, about 1 meter (38 inches). Here we go!

See you later, Tokyo! The seat in front has a QR code that, when scanned, shows the line and information about it. All windows are equipped with such a blind. And this is what the toilet looks like. It’s spacious and clean. Let’s check the speed of this train. Later it accelerated to 285 km/h, which is the maximum speed on this route. And now, about 15 minutes of scenery (I cut out the rides through longer tunnels). Enjoy watching, see you in Shizuoka. Snack break. Atami Station. We are arriving in Shizuoka.

And I arrived, it was a great experience, it was definitely worth it, it’s a completely different level of travel than in Europe. Bye-bye, N700. Welcome to Shizuoka!
