Wow The ljmj home base officially has grass oh my goodness that looks terrible where marisa nathan hensley and jj we sold our house in 2015 and moved into an rv full time to live a lot of less junk more journey life is a journey let go

And get going i don’t even know where to start it just looks like uh this looks like four rugs sitting out here in the middle of the i don’t know i just don’t know be honest don’t sugarcoat it i think it has potential oh my goodness

That’s what you said when you met me it’s nice having some green out here but you’re really trying all right now tell me it’s horrible isn’t it so what happens if it doesn’t match up we got some like 800 cardboard poles that kids can play with i guess so so what’s

Up fellow juniors today’s video does include fake grass but it is not about fake grass so we’re going to show you guys some stuff that we have never used before but we’re trying it out we’re going to show you guys some stuff that we have used some

We’re pretty sure we like it we think we might keep it like the grass uh and then we’ll also show you guys some stuff that we have tried out we have used and we know we love and we know it will be almost an everyday part of our rv living life all right

We are starting in here now tell me what’s your uh master plan vision so this is all pretty much stock i think that the colors are pretty nice but i think we can spruce it up just a little bit because it does still feel like an rv and i love making rvs feel

Like homes now to me that solution is probably something more like this done right you hate throw pillows we agree to disagree on almost all this stuff it’s i i like the clean nothing in my way like when i sit down i just want

To sit down i got the whole you know but it’s not cute so there is definitely a love hate with throw pillows and i have a throw pillow problem i love them and nathan hates them so much okay so i want i just want everybody everybody remember the before

So this is the before right oh that’s not there you wouldn’t even have this here yeah i wouldn’t that’s true maybe like a little blanket i think that’s that way because that’s functional right you could literally be what i’d use but that’d be that’s a cardigan oh well

Anyways let’s pretend that was a blanket so that’s all but that’s all i would do i just throw it on there you know because that’s semi-functional and then i’m done but marissa has different plans let’s uh let’s check it out this is the before on the couch and then this is after you

Just kind of like no this is how i always sit i’ll lay on the pillows cuddle the pillow you can use it for your back you can lay down with them it does feel more homey i guess so oh we’re not done what else could you fit on the couch

It’s not on the couch this time i promise another thing that i love that i think it makes it feel like a home but nathan hates again are rugs i think it needs a rug in here oh that’s a big rug all right as with most of our decisions she wanted

The rug i said i didn’t want a rug we compromised and she got a massive rug even if my space is small i want to love the space that i’m in i love that this rug is soft on my feet the kids love playing on a rug and this one’s really lightweight so

It’s easy to get in and out it’s from world market thanks to my friend lindsay who helped me go and uh pick the rug and pillows i love it you don’t walk in and feel like it’s every other rv you feel like you’re making it a home

To me i do like and i don’t know if this is what you’re going for or not but like it kind of creates a separation between the living room area and like the kitchen area other than that um i’m thrilled that you love it i do love it

What is that jj what is it a paper birthday baby it’s a bird in it’s like a grand design bird watching edition solitude here we see tons of birds out these windows no way buddy so the next idea includes these we had some patrons on team journey that gave us the idea

That you can take out the middle console of these recliners and make it look like a couch take it all the way out or do you want to try moving it over here and see what that so they recommended that you could put it on the

Side and that way you still keep your cup holder and storage so let’s try that first okay oh i want to rip that new rug yeah that’d be a bummer i love the sound effects that i’m just i’m just acting like it’s heavy it’s actually no strain at all my muscular body okay

Dude i’m liking the way this looks i don’t know i don’t know if there’s a way to make that not look weird i definitely like it looking out i like that and we could add some pillows to that i don’t know how i feel on these yet these

Little clip things here like the concept and i get it it’s it’s a neat you take it put it in and then you can swivel out and have a place to put your drink you can put your plate i actually love it she likes it with kids it’s risky

I’ll tell everybody you’re living on the my coffee sit here and get spilled probably six of the seven days a week just so you guys know i went outside and waited for my wife to come help me film and instead um already oh my goodness mercy

What i mean i’m just trying to say that what if it’s on my side and your side okay i don’t want to see we have we have we just need to get that back out but if you come across this line right here okay that’s a deal we’ll have

Pillows on my side and your side can be empty okay so while marissa finishes that up um let me highlight a few things outside now you guys have seen this uh we’re not gonna go you know i’ll link to that other video the hot tub

It seemed it seems so silly but this is our inflatable hot tub love it so in our video talking about like some of the issues or concerns we have with our grand design rv and there aren’t many but this is one of them we were actually surprised that this seemed less stable

Inside than like our open range and our airstream and some other stuff we had before we didn’t know if it’s due to the height of the rv the weight of the rv i think the main reason that it seems a little bit unstable it bounces around is

That there’s so much length behind this the rear axle stops there even though the rear stabilizer jack stops there you’ve got all this length that goes all the way back to here so some of the stuff i looked at to stabilize this because i want to try the

Easy stuff first just to show you guys because if if it’s nothing more then one of the thoughts was let’s just go buy the anderson bucket looking things that magnetized to the stabilizer jacks and i thought well i could test that theory without buying those they’re about eight

Inches tall so what i did is i went around every one of these jacks they were about eight inches tall you can see that it’s not coming down very much right there on that jack and i did that to all the jacks i used two by tens two

By eights whatever i had around made it with the jacks barely come down on the rig it’s pretty much the same i’m gonna say maybe five or ten percent improvement on the shakiness and balanciness especially when you’re in the back of the rv so instead of spending it’s a lot i don’t

Know if it’s hundreds of dollars but it’s quite a bit to buy six of those red anderson and that’s not to say it wouldn’t work in your situation so for us i think our main problem is we need to stabilize this rear portion of the rv maybe some

Other parts too but this is like the main spot she’s back you run out of pillows well i’ve got more pillows so this uh i think it used to be 40 bucks with a covered rv inflation i think it’s like 70 or something now You want to do a before and after like you go jump around the rv or something see what it feels like and then i’ll hook this up in the back and we’ll see what it feels like after yeah okay brought in the big guns are you ready to jump around we need

Your help to see how shaky the rv is and we need you to jump around are you ready ready Super technical testing i’m sure that’s how the stabilizer jacks and everything was tested out as well so um yeah we’ve got this it’s a tight space let’s go test it out again you ready for the jump test that’s round two really it’s all good i will have to look at the footage

And my gut is that it is better yeah we got this kinsley we have a dance space now something new we’re trying out since we moved the site which we’ll talk more about later uh why we changed from over there to over here at our home base what

This is it does not come this dirty typically so this is a 45 amp splitter slash combiner slash what they call it a power maximizer by camco what it does we have a 30 amp hook up here on this spot but we’re like well wouldn’t it be cool

To have a little more power so this takes a regular 15 amp plug power from marisa’s mom’s house combines it with the 30 we already have and so that we’re getting 45 amps which is pretty cool the main limitation i’ve read about with this is that if there is a circuit

Breaker on the plug you’re plugging into this will not work it’ll only pull one of the other i think but we don’t circuit breakers on either one so we’re getting 45 amps pretty cool we’re going to get dirty with this next one i know jared gillis did like a all about rvs

Did a review on different sewer hoses like how they hold up and what they do if i get this glove on i’d be a terrible surgeon your labyrinth is laughing she’s a nurse since she can do this way faster do they always like is it like like for

The next time you got your gloves on that baby would be born like hurt so now as far as sewer hoses uh we’ve had four or five different kinds of sewer hoses over the years uh this is your basic run of the mill this is like your cheapest option

And we still have one of these and i’ll show you why in a minute at this price point you don’t quite get the durability these are typically more durable your rhino hose this is a step up actually from the rhino hose i think it’s like called a silver or something i’ll put

The link to all this stuff but my thought process was so underneath our rv we have this sewer hose holder or you can even add one like this valterra if you want to because there’s nothing worse than like having to take super hoses and shove them in your bay or

Shove them into your truck problem i found was our rhino hose i couldn’t find anything that would work in combination with the rhino hose which is now roasted because it fell out going down the road and the whole deal and got shredded but based on the measurements i got and

Based on what i read online i think we can combine this one with this one and it’ll give us i can’t remember the exact lengths but a maximum amount of length that’s gonna fit in that tube you guys are about to find out if that works or not so nine

Times out of ten when we’re hooking up and going somewhere we’re gonna use this nice hose but if we ever need a little more length we have this extra hose to add to that length if we need it here’s your sewer hose storage thingymabob super technical and this is mud not

Not the alternative marissa’s like i am never dumping the tanks um okay so there’s one i changed all the kids diapers okay well then you can dump the taste it’s only fair that moment of truth see if what people said online is accurate or not oh it’s so close yeah

Like a glove like a glove so even though this is the same length as the rhino hose the rhino hose would not fit in this with this so since the rhino hose was toast anyways and that’s all i could fit in there was basically one rhino

Hose i now have this and this and it is it’s maxing out i can feel it pretty tight as i’m closing the door i like it i’ll start dumping the tanks if you take over diaper duty no i’m good [Laughter] so another thing we’ve added to this rig

That we had on the airstream is a valterra valve now these are not expensive for what it does well worth the money things like 30 bucks it’s a 30 second install you just snap it on here snap your hose onto that so what it does it’s really cool

Basically it’s stopping the flow right now i’ve still got my gray tanks are still open back at the main valve so if i open this which i’m about to do all the gray will start flowing out but essentially these two gray valves right here we can leave those open now and it

Doesn’t really matter while we’re sitting here but let’s say we’re boondocking we would leave both those valves open we would close this and it essentially combines both gray tanks so whereas we would have been worried about using the washer dryer and possibly that overflowing the shower’s not as big of a

Deal which is on the other tank because when the shower overflows it sort of just comes up in the shower and it takes a while but i’m scared to death that washer dryer it overflowing that tank so but instead of worrying about that we’ve combined both tanks by opening that closing this

And we get actually a little bit extra gray through this pipe technically and when it’s going to overflow we tested it it actually starts overflowing at the shower before it starts overflowing at the washer dryer now check your rig make sure that’s still the case but for us that’s the way it’s worked

And that’s pretty awesome i guess there’s no gray in there that was when i wanted the dramatic effect of all the gray coming out but anyways that would have been pretty cool i’m like you pull it out and moving on so more rod sent us these uh motion

Activator lights that are meant to go on our more ride step above steps you’re using a power tool it’s a requirement to do that so bottom side of the step trigger the flange and top okay so the four step lights are in one two three four you’re just gonna pretty much stay there

You can’t even see them when the steps are down find a little later what these look like as they activate with the darkness crippling some lunch we got pizza hamburgers what do you think taco bells do you say bows bowls bowls bowls is the same girl it’s like

Crowns and crowns this you want to talk about this um we we use a cutting board a ton lots of fruits and vegetables to make our tacos but we were using the really thin flimsy ones because we wanted to save space but we noticed it was not loving that on our countertop so

We didn’t want a big bulky one but this has been amazing i wanted something that i could chop on the space and then nathan cut it so that it even fits to save space in our sink and it covers up our dishes which i love too and so it’s great

Because you don’t even have to have it on your countertop you can have it taking the sink space and then if i need my sink in this prep space it can also just kind of fit on the stove space and so i’ve even cut up over there as well this is like my

Crowning achievement in life um no so it was um it was pretty squared off when i first got it i think it might have been just a little bit too long actually it was really close on the dimensions we needed at least already so you got to measure your own but this is

Made for rvs you can adjust these in and out i mainly got it because the size honestly not because of those but those are actually a bonus because it gives you this tiny bit of elevation on your countertop with some rubber that we makes us feel better about sitting it on

The counter but as far as like actual work on this i think i i think i had to round the corners more and i maybe had to cut maybe a quarter inch off or something like that it was already really close i just took a sander i rounded the edges

I trimmed it down to what i needed and it’s been great i love it we’ll link to this one so if you have a grand design sink or a sink that looks like this one good chance for you i got a surprise for you i love surprises

You bought this no i did not buy this company that makes this sent this to us because they just started making it and they needed i love it there you go so if you saw our episode where i raved about how i love our shower and then now we’re gonna show you what

This does but my complaint was it was silver and nathan told me he would paint it when i got around to it this shower head has been a happy medium between nathan and i because i love the rain shower head um i’m spoiled rotten in this army shower now

But yeah the black is gonna be awesome you want this bubble wrap What’s up pico you scratching that itch oh my goodness oh oh pillows everywhere we’re over here too where did you even get all these pillows first of all second of all what are we gonna do with these pillows they’re cute yeah yeah they’re uh oh my goodness let’s show more pillows i guess

There are pillows everywhere so you guys have seen our home base videos know that we usually park over here but we came in from florida to tennessee like that used to be a tree like look at um i mean it’s just i was just horrible so there was a ice

Storm that came through tennessee and texas and it just broke all kinds of these limbs off and so we uh when we came in we thought well we’ll just temporarily park you know over here and then once we clean up the limbs we’ll go back well we parked

Over here and we realized oh man that’s a great view yeah with those windows like that’s a great view what made it so great is we could watch our kids play out the window so we kind of got a bird’s eye view of the property while they played and

We realized we could watch some amazing sunsets out our brig as well i guess sort of coming back around on this video you saw where we started with the grass and that’s kind of the theme of this video we don’t have too much stuff but

At the same time to get the right stuff sometimes we buy things and try things out and we’re trying the grass out in the beginning just scared to death of it like we made a big mistake buying this um but i don’t know what do you think now i think the grass

Has really grown on us even though it really doesn’t it doesn’t grow i sweep my grass yeah but i think at first we thought oh no that doesn’t look quite right but once we’ve been using it we’re outside so much more i feel like it really does feel like

An outdoor space and it feels good to have something like soft under your feet and then you may have seen like while marissa was talking these lights came on actually we’ve got now these as far as rv gear kind of do fit in that we have

Seen people take those on the road with them we have not really done that much yet she’s asking me we want to be those people i want to be those people yeah so she wants to take all the pillows all the lights um but we usually leave the lights here

But you can take you can take those lights with you we’ve seen them i also have them on a timer automatically they can be voice controlled they can dim they can br they’re really awesome so they all like come on automatically at a certain amount of time before sunset

It’s it’s it’s pretty neat if you’re thinking about getting on the road gear is a part of that um and so you need to kind of be able to think through what works what doesn’t what should we take what should we not should we just have a million pillows

Well everything is so limited in this lifestyle there’s only a certain amount of space and a certain amount of things you can carry with you there can be the perception you can’t ever have anything but i think we just have to be intentional with the things we do have

But that’s been our journey for today that’s been our gear for today that has been our pillow mania is that the right word deep down you love them deep down way that’s been our pillow mania for today until next video let go and get going what are you talking about with the steps

No they don’t no they don’t they did that whoa look at how the steps light up isn’t that cool

  6. Growing up if we ever put a leg or foot on the furniture like that we would have to sit on the floor for a week.
It's funny how different generation have gotten more lacked about things 🀣
Nice furniture and a decent car were treasured!
Today they are disposable items in life to most people now 😒

  7. Hey guys.

  8. Great video, definitely going to be using some of the gadgets you reviewed. i believe i saw you had a solar setup in one of your videos, i would love to see how you guys went about setting that up! everything I've found online to date hasn't been that helpful and frankly for a first time Rv'er its a bit daunting trying to figure out if its worth it to install on our grand design. thanks again guys!

  9. How long have you found the batteries to last in the motion sensing step lights now that you've had them awhile? And have they weathered the wet weather well when the steps are in the down position?
