Hi again! We’ll be spending 2 days in Kyoto. Actually, Kyoto has many beautiful underrated locations. Like this temple, one of the biggest in Kyoto. The biggest building was completed in 1658. It is built for a specific branch in Buddhism: Shin-Buddhism. The remains of the founder Shinran, are here in the mausoleum.

The architecture is breathtaking. It’s a very nice place to find some peace of mind. Next stop is a special location! The Pokemon Center in Kyoto has special statues. There is a location-unique penny press machine! There is an anime themed shrine nearby. Unfortunately, it’s closed. The famous and very expensive crab chain restaurant.

We’re going to Fushimi Inari Shrine. It’s at the end of the day but still quite busy. It’s the main shrine of the Shinto God (Kami) Inari. The entire area is a span of 4 kilometres. In contrast to some temples, shrines have free entry. and they are also open 24 hours.

The Inari are mainly worshipped for agriculture and rice. but are also patrons of business. The earliest records of the shrine go back to 711. But it’s believed that the shrine is even older than that. This is where the trail of Torii gates starts. All these Torii gates are donated by businesses.

On the back you can read the business and their prayer. If you’re thinking of donating a Torii gate 😀 A small Torii starts from ¥400.000 ($2.720/€2.520). and the big ones over ¥1.000.000 ($6.800/€6.300). The area encompasses many shrines, like this one. There were some unique origami functioning as Ema (wish tablets).

There is a huge bamboo forest. I wonder why nobody really comes here. The trail is long and most people are not up to the hike. The shrine has a mysterious atmosphere. Like a different dimension. Back at Kyoto Station we ended our first day! With Kyoto Tower shining brightly at us.

We can almost see the people! For the second day we are going to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. It’s around 30 min. on foot from Kyoto Station. Kiyomizu-dera means Pure Water Temple. Named after the waterfall that runs through the complex. It’s established in 778, during the Nara Period.

It was quite busy and warm, so the sprinklers were on. The temple is open from 06:00 – 18:00. The view from the famous stage, green as far the eye can see. Beautiful in every season. These statues are called Jizō: guardians of travellers and children.

There is not a single nail used in the construction. This is the waterfall channeled in 3 streams, having wish powers. We’ll be visiting some other interesting temples. Unfortunately, there are many temples under construction 🙁 Therefore we can’t enter this temple with a beautiful garden..

Check beforehand if the temple is open to save time. There are many temples and shrines, but only a few are overvisited. Which puts a lot of strain on them. Some temples are even more beautiful than the most famous ones. This temple complex has an unique Aqueduct.

Which is surprising: an European concept and built in Roman style. This temple complex has a beautiful garden. It’s now summer but it must be stunning in autumn. It’s already getting dark. That’s it for the short 2 days Kyoto. Thanks again for watching and see you next time.
