About 15 minutes from Kyoto Station on the JR Sagano Line. I arrived at Saga Arashiyama Station. Walk down the street lined with fashionable shops. This chain store has a plain signboard in consideration of the scenery. And this is Arashiyama’s main street. As expected, there were a lot of people.

Tenryuji Temple is located in the center of Arashiyama. I plan to go see the weeping cherry blossoms in full bloom later. The cherry blossoms are so beautiful! It is lined with souvenir shops and restaurants. Miffy is also wearing a kimono. Popular souvenir “Kyoto Baum”. Baumkuchen made with matcha and soy milk.

I came to the most famous spot in Arashiyama. This is “Togetsukyo Bridge”. It is a scene that represents Kyoto, with a row of cherry blossom trees on the opposite bank! I’ll try crossing.

Well, there are cars passing by, and there are a lot of people, so it doesn’t have a very nice atmosphere when you’re crossing. However, the water in the Katsuragawa River is beautiful. Cherry blossoms are blooming here and there on the mountainside, and it’s a nice view.

Opposite shore. Weeping cherry blossoms are in full bloom! There are also stalls. Since it’s warm, I think I’ll have some soft serve ice cream. Matcha soft serve ice cream. It’s a common Sujata dish, but it’s delicious when you eat it here.

Even so, it’s in full bloom. I’m glad I came at a good time. On to the next destination. Travel by bus. Kyoto Bus Route 73 Hankyu Arashiyama Station → Matsuo Taisha Station 230 yen. I arrived in 5 minutes. Suica can be used on Kyoto buses, making it convenient for travelers.

The place I came to was Matsuo Taisha. A shrine dedicated to the god of alcohol. I love Japanese sake, so I really wanted to come. “Matsuo Taisha” has a long history, with the shrine building said to have been built in the Asuka period (701 AD).

It is one of the oldest shrines in Kyoto. There is a teahouse on the grounds where you can eat dango and soba noodles. Walk slowly and admire the grounds. There is a turtle in the water fountain. And next to it is a statue of a “Naked Turtle.”

It is a symbol of good health and longevity, and if you stroke it, you can imitate its spiritual power. We are currently taking measures to prevent infection. Just pretending to stroke it. There is a magnificent dance hall in the center of the precincts.

And there is a place that seems to be the god of alcohol! Barrels of sake donated by sake brewers from all over the country are lined up. Even so, it’s an amazing amount! It’s amazing. Purchase a stamp book. This is also the handle of a sake barrel.

This is “Aioi no Matsu”. It is said to bring luck in love. Main shrine. The current one was built in 1394. beautiful. Visit. This shrine has three gardens called Shofuen, which can be viewed for a fee (500 yen). This is a paid area.

The three gardens were completed in 1975 by a gardener named Mirei Shigemori. The first garden. “Garden of curved water”. It is said to be a depiction of the courtly play of the Heian aristocrats. The thin flowing water surface is beautiful. It’s a beautiful garden from every angle.

The second garden. “Garden of ancient times”. It is said to represent the state of worship in the distant past, when there were no shrines or shrine buildings. There is a treasure hall in the back where you can see important cultural properties. The last garden is a little further away.

The third garden. “Garden of Horai”. The entire pond is said to be shaped like a crane with its wings spread out. A garden with a sense of depth that you won’t get tired of looking at. Barrel fortune telling? The handmade feel is amazing…

There is a “Sake Museum” on the premises where you can learn about the history and process of sake brewing. Cute fortune. Even the big ones are cute. I received a goshuin stamp. After visiting the god of sake, I returned to Arashiyama.

I strolled through the center of Arashiyama and bought some cold green tea. I look into the shopping mall in front of the station. It seems to be a facility with souvenirs, food to eat, and a restaurant. The second floor seems to be mainly a shop selling traditional Kyoto crafts.

I came to Tenryuji Temple. This temple is famous for its vast Japanese garden and weeping cherry blossoms in full bloom. The temple is also quaint and relaxing. It makes you feel relaxed. And in the back, a splendid weeping cherry tree is in full bloom. It seems that a maiko has come.

Beautiful historical buildings and cherry blossoms. Further back, there is also an area where “Azalea” blooms. The feeling of moss growing under my feet is also nice. After receiving the Goshuin seal, we leave Tenryuji Temple. There was also a nice place right next to Arashiyama Station.

The fabric of Kyoto Yuzen, a kimono dyed using an ancient Kyoto technique, is decorated in a pole shape. At night, it is lit up and looks like a fantastic space. Take the Arashiyama Main Line, commonly known as “Randen”. For some reason Enoden color… I took the opportunity to ride the purple one.

“Randen” is a streetcar. Running through the streets of Kyoto. Keifuku Electric Railway Arashiyama Main Line Arashiyama Station → Saiin Station 220 yen. Arrived at Saiin Station. Hankyu Kyoto Main Line Saiin Station → Kyoto Kawaramachi 160 yen. I came to Kawaramachi, the downtown area of Kyoto.

We will have dinner at the restaurant we have reserved. Cherry blossom trees lined up in the downtown area! There are cherry blossoms everywhere in Kyoto. The restaurant I made a reservation for is a famous restaurant that is always listed in guidebooks.

As you enter an old multi-tenant building that is difficult to enter at first glance… This is a small restaurant where you can enjoy “obanzai”. “Obanzai” is a side dish that has been made in Kyoto homes for a long time. All carefully handcrafted and gentle flavors. Is delicious!

And the landlady is powerful and the conversation is fun! Nice smile! Alcohol goes on. The shime curry is also delicious! This is a popular restaurant that requires reservations, but it is a recommended restaurant where you can enjoy delicious “obanzai”! After dinner, I went to this shop to buy breakfast for tomorrow.

This bakery’s “Kyo Carne” is apparently a staple among Kyoto residents. Check in at a business hotel near Nijo Castle. Select loungewear and amenities on the first floor and bring them with you. It has a clean feel. Non-smoking double room without meals 4,380 yen (2 people).

The room is small, but enough for just sleeping. electric kettle. safe. toilet and washroom. There is a toothbrush. Shower room only. No bathtub. desk. refrigerator. Humidifying air purifier. There is a large public bath on the first floor, which can be used free of charge. The bathroom was also clean.

A washer and dryer were also located on the first floor. There is a microwave in the lobby on the first floor. Tea and coffee are also available. And you can eat up to one free curry per person! (18:00-20:00)

Clean room, large public bath and free curry. I think it is a hotel with good cost performance. I’m going to the night cherry blossom light-up event at Nijo Castle. Nijo Castle at night, which is usually not accessible. The castle is lit up using projection mapping. Participants will be given lanterns.

It’s a great atmosphere to bring a lantern and look around at the lights. The illumination of the cherry blossoms is also amazing! There is also a mechanism that lights up when you place a lantern on the stand. The castle’s stone walls are also colorful.

The inside of the castle is very spacious and you can enjoy plenty of cherry blossoms at night. World Heritage Site’s cherry blossoms illuminated at night. I had a valuable experience. The phantom dorayaki sold at the venue.

It was recommended to me by the proprietress of the obanzai shop, so I decided to buy it and take it home. Apparently it’s something you can’t usually buy. This concludes the first day. I’ll be doing a lot of sightseeing in the next two days.
