For our first ever bullet train ride in 2023, we decided to book the Hikari Shinkansen from Tokyo to Shizuoka on the Tokaido Sanyo Line. This is one of Japan’s fastest bullet train lines, and we had a blast experiencing it and reviewing it for you! This is our first day of our 21-day JR Pass experience throughout Japan π Our impressions of Japan’s fastest bullet trains has not changed from the last time we were here in 2019. It was and still is excellent! We almost wish we booked the Shinkansen for a longer train ride straight to Osaka or Kyoto at this point!
Our 21-day JR Pass journey started at a super busy place called Shinagawa Station (an alternative to Tokyo Station), where many lines connect with the the Shinkansen. We suggest going to the train area a little early so you can stand at the front of the super-fast bullet trains and have a really cool look at them before you hop on.
The last time we were in Japan we didn’t use the bathroom. We were really interested to see how the bathroom on the bullet train in Japan would be since Japan has super awesome bathrooms. And guess what? The bullet train bathroom didn’t disappoint β it was really cool, spacious, and most importantly, clean. It amazes to know the Shinkansen transports thousands of people each day and still manages to keep all the restrooms so clean!
We’ve been on lots of trains during our travels, but the bullet train in Japan is the cleanest and always on time! If you’re planning to use the JR Pass to travel around Japan, you’re in for a treat! The Shinkansen, which is the bullet train, is super fast, comfy, and feels like a real Japanese adventure. Let’s just say We Love Trains more than planes now we’re here at Jingo gayen Geno Avenue it’s a beautiful Street lined with so many beautiful gko trees and this possibly maybe the last year it’s here we’re not sure but we’re here enjoying the beautiful colors yeah so
It’s it’s a long Street that’s just lined up with inco trees and it’s all shedding color or like changing color all at once yeah so the whole street is just lined up yellow they got a whole nice amount of crowd over here trying to take in the last few possibly days of
The leaves being on and then yeah it’s going to it’s going to be all Barren after this so but amazing right have you experence anything like no I have never and Autumn is like the perfect time to come and if you guys are around in Japan

Um train stations that uh yeah yeah which is uh shinagawa station so yeah making our way over there and we are going to be visiting chis chisa yeah yeah and hopefully we get beautiful views of fi in there as well and yeah so hopefully we give you tour of the she C
This time around we didn’t get a chance yeah it was short lived yeah exactly yeah yeah running late let’s Go now we here at the shinagawa station it looks so big like wide no nice and wide cuz there’s a lot of uh connecting lines here yeah and this is how you get to the other regions of of Japan what they say me I’m more excited for
Food we’ve had a long day more that maybe from inside the Sh there she goes and there’s a cool fun fact for you guys so it was pretty noisy as it was going because once it approaches the train station it actually gets on actual wheels that actually roll on the tracks but once it reaches a certain speed the
Wheels actually uh roll up into the body of the train and then that’s when the magnetic limitation kind of kicks in wow pretty cool right nice I didn’t know that I didn’t know that Either it’s so nice that they have like a big vending machine full of ice cream and coffee yeah two wonderful things that’ll help get the CH yeah exactly look at all the flavors there’s vanilla there’s high quality strawberry everything’s high quality guys belan Chu oh the good thing about it is they take

We’ll have kind of give you guys a quick tour of our little space area little space I am already ready to snack the show yeah yeah yeah it’s nice and have yeah let’s start with the really nice and comfortable seats I think they can go recline or something
But um I want to talk about the light space like a lot of room I’ve never experienced like this type of was in a bus a plane or even a train like the other trains but it’s really nice just we have like tabletops that you can pull
Out and have it’s just like a in a plight yeah cool and we got to put all of our luggage thank goodness all of our luggage was within the uh oversized luggage limit so it was like under that so we’re able to put all of our luggage on top that’s pretty
And yeah hungry let’s go Eat I I can’t I can’t if you’re ever wondering what I’m always hearing in my little like to B it’s usually a lot of snacks snack uh and uh that’s our breakfast this here it’s almost 4:00 yeah so what what should have been eaten in the morning uh yeah Japanese uh Hotel
Checkout times are early early which is at 10:00 check people of mine yeah checkings are like sometimes like 2:00 p.m. sometimes 3 and sometimes even seen plac go up but between 9 and 10 so yeah we barely got any time to uh have up our breakfast so yeah we’re carrying all of that

Views unobstructed views of Fuji yeah still nice one of the things guys in Japan is uh there’s not that many trash can around even at trans station sometimes they only have like P recycle bottles only and not actual trash uh so I do see a trash icon on the train so
Might just take you guys along for a little walk so why not give you guys a little glimpse of the Train the restaurant let’s see I myself don’t know where I guess quick tour of the restroom pretty spacious it’s a multi-purpose room they also have a a I would say a
Half bath uh restroom only and we’re moving cuz we’re sto at the station but uh I didn’t feel anything I could only feel just the vibration uh I was going through a tunnel that’s about it so they have the they have the Basin everything’s touched operated place to
Uh change napkins and all of that have a restroom style uh toilet and put your baby over there and then yeah this is all you have all the SP that you get just super Nice I think that’s Mount Fuji covered by the Clouds So we left at 3:34 we arrived in shizuka at 449 it was a beautiful experience get to see M fui on the right hand side Sun sitting really comforable right I would say mix comfortability with speed I feel like that’s like com Perfect combo yeah it
Was just super smooth ride so yeah if you guys get a chance even for a day day one trip you have to try out the bullet train you can yeah and actually this is not even the fastest one I believe the fastest one is the one that takes you up
North to haato which is the green one I’ll factt trck that for you guys still we were bling fast at what 283 yeah km hour yeah like 176 1779 mph yeah imagine being a car like 179 miles hour oh my goodness you don’t want to do that no
Yeah uh we have to walk 11 minutes to our accommodation which is not bad not bad uh one thing I would say uh the Pavements on uh in Japan are pretty smooth it’s easy to roll your suitcases on smooth and clean damage your few Wheels uh on hour on this entire trip this
[Applause] year holy moly wow that’s like the express Express which is the thei or the mizuo which you don’t get with the jar pass because it skips many stations you can look it separately yeah you you could pay a little bit of a fee and get uh kind of skip those station
But it’s actually amazing to see that you guys just kind of stop over at the stations once you get off you see them zooming path in the fast tracks so mesmerized it was so fast yeah I was like what is this like and you you could just hear the the uh rumbling the
Thunder yeah oh my goodness can’t wait for another one I guess so all [Applause] rightness down at least we have finally made it to accommodation after dragging our bags yes uh overall the day was fine it was really fast beginning from point to points uh just the minus the whole B situation and
Actually you booked this place really last minute right yeah like um on the train yeah it was like an hour before we reached here so thank you you’re welcome I mean I’m glad like we just found a place because earlier wouldn’t tell you we actually wanted to extend two more
Days in Tokyo but when Wasim went down to ask if we could extend they said that all the rooms are booked that we’re going to have to leave yeah so we quickly packed up and before 10:00 a.m. we were out of there and then we went
And sat down um by our McDonald’s it’s a little like little park and we were looking for hotels for the longest time because as you may know already that I like to make sure that we are under our budget it doesn’t work out that way and of course Japan as everyone knows is
Super expensive but we’re trying our best right well finally uh we randomly decided we were supposed to go to Kyoto today yeah but we randomly decided that we were going to go to shoka instead because it is a holiday and everyone is like traveling and everything is booked
And things are really expensive so pan is known in probably every other country where there’s holidays yes the locals are traveling actually shiz is actually on our way to kyotto yeah so it worked out uh we Bally cut the time in half if we were to uh travel straight from Tokyo
To Kyoto or Osaka so yeah sharka happens to be in the middle uh M Fuji is Right close by yes so we’re planning on exploring that or or just exploring the town to the point where Mount Fuji is visible yes it’s going to be a full day of exploring tomorrow but right now
We’re just going to catch up on some work freshen up maybe go get some dinner somewhere we’re going to go ahead and try to see what’s nearby or just have the croquette from 7-Eleven that we meant for breakfast so we’ll seeis have been our best friend yeah
Yeah like yeah and then vending machines everywhere there’s like vending machines in the hotel right now if not there’s a vending machine right around the and there’s another V around V anyway thank you guys so much for coming along with us today we hope you enjoyed the bullet
