Making Basic Sourdough Bread



I show you how to make Basic Sourdough in the Kitchenarm Bread Maker.
This is super easy. If you don’t have someone who already has some sourdough starter I’ll put the recipe here along with the bread recipe. Enjoy

Basic Sourdough Bread

This is for 12 Slices / 1 1/2 Pounds

2 cups Simple Sourdough Starter ( recipe below)
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons melted butter cooled
2 teaspoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 1/2 cups white bread flour
1 1/2 teaspoons bread machine or
instant yeast

Place the ingredients in your bread machine in order as listed.
Program the machine for Basic Bread, select light or medium crust and press start.
When the loaf is done, remove the bucket from the machine.
Let the loaf cool for 5 minutes.
Gently shake the bucket to remove the loaf, and turn it out onto a rack to cool.

Simple Sourdough Starter
Makes 2 cups

2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
2 cups water (lukewarm)
2 cups all-purpose flour

In a large nonmetallic bowl, stir together the yeast, water and flour.
Cover the bowl loosely and place it in a warm place to ferment for 4 to 8 days, stirring several times per day.
When the starter is bubbly and has a pleasant sour smell, it is ready to use.
Store the starter covered in the refrigerator until you wish to use it.

Go but if you just want to make sourdough bread for your family I’m using using the kitchen arm bread maker and I like using this because I don’t have to worry about anything just put the ingredients in there and let it do its thing and basically what we got

Is all right let’s go ahead this is the bucket that goes in here let’s go ahead and put this in here there it goes it’s locked okay the first thing we want to do do is let me get me a little spoon out of here all right first thing we want to do

Is add two cups of sour dough this is my discard you always use your discard so putting that in there I just had enough too cuz she just gave me this the other day so we’re doing good we’re doing good I fed it a couple days to get that

Amount so we’re all good yes you have to feed your sour dough well you don’t have to feed it every day but if you’re just starting out and uh you need some to make bread then you should uh feed it every day to get your discard up so see we’re going to be

Traveling the um let’s see today is Friday and we’re going to be traveling Sunday and a couple days next week so I won’t be making bread but I’ll be feeding my my uh starter so that I can um have discard I went ahead and cleaned my jar up from my

Discard because you do not want that stuff to get stuck in there oh my gosh it’s like cement okay and now the next thing we’re going to add is uh water I’m going to get it out of the berky two tablespoons okay let me see how steady I

Am woo there we go all right and then uh melted butter I went ahead and and soften this up a little bit so that we’ll have softened butter in here instead of a big old big old piece of it you just don’t want something to be

Stuck in the middle you know what I mean and it’s kind we got up this morning it was 19° yeah we don’t usually be in places like this okay I like to clean everything up before I put it in the drain there all right the next thing

Is uh the melted butter we did two two tpoon of sugar and uh 1 and 1/2 teaspoon of salt so we’ll put that in there I am making the one and A2 Loaf the 1 and A2 pound bread because that’s all the discard I had so

We will go with that let’s go ahead and put our bread flour in here and you can get your bread flour at the grocery store it doesn’t matter which brand a lot of people have their favorites you know the King Author and whatnot actually I do think this is the King

Author but I’m not sure okay there’s two cups and we got to have two two and a half cups so there’s two and a half let’s do a half it’s easier in this little one there we go half all right got that in there and yeast you got to have and you

Should do this at room temperature so I let mine set out for a little bit because I keep mine in my refrigerator to keep it longer so this is 2 and 1/2 teaspoons of bread machine or instant yeast and this is instant yeast get it at

Walmart okay get that in there all right now we’re ready to turn it on I know it’s just that simple so let’s uh uh let’s see it’s on it’s on a 2 lb uh let’s see I want it to be on one medium I like it like that And it’s on one which is basic so and what I’m going to do because my family likes uh Kobe cheese in it so when it comes to adding the cheese I’m going to add Kobe cheese and I’m going to hit start and first thing it’s going to do

Is going to need the first need and we’ve got 3 hours and 12 minutes for this to do its thing okay the ad just went off and I’m going to add like a half a cup Kobe jack Cheese these I do believe are about a half a cup you don’t have to measure completely I mean hey it is what it is okay there we go that part’s done all right now we got 2 hours and 23 3 minutes and it’s still on need four so it’s kneading this the fourth

Time and on this knad it usually takes between 15 and 30 oh and 30 minutes I added cheese to mine but you could add almost anything that you wanted any kind of cheese nuts blueberries strawberry well not strawberries that would be gross um blueberries a mix of nuts cranberries

I’ve done it with nuts and cranberries the basic recipe is just basic so you can add stuff to it so I wouldn’t go over a half a cup you know this size cup I do believe this is a half cup 6 oz there you go and um almost anything that I’ve made that

I’ve added stuff to added to the bread has turned out perfectly and now it’s rising the first rise I think it has three if I remember correctly see what it looks like let’s open it oh you can see the cheese rise number two I never ever take the paddle

Out okay because look what you have to do that is dough right there and it is hard to handle now if you want to deal with it you go for it I just take it out at the end it makes it much easier y’all it’s starting to look

Really good look at that and we’re on Rise to woohoo there nothing like fresh baked bread with butter on it yummy okay she’s done I know it looks real light on the top but that’s okay that’s just the heel but it is so good so let’s try

Came out when I pulled the bread out so we don’t have to worry about that it’s hot right now so I’m not going to cut it immediately I’m going to let it sit here for about 30 minutes it’ll still be warm but I’m going to put a tea over

It that I got in Alaska woohoo oh no where’ this one come from Oh Canada all right so we just going to cover that up right there let it sit for a little bit and I will cut it in a few let’s cut us a hunk of this bread and

  2. I haven't used my machine in a long time, but I make bread pretty regularly. I add seeds like pumpkin, sunflower, flax, and hemp. I might have to try sourdough. Good video Sharon!
