Here’s where we donated – Japan Red Cross Society Relief Donation via Amazon.co.jp (Japanese Account Required)

This site is also a good place to donate from overseas since they have an English website, just need to switch it to English.

Japan’s Ishikawa Prefecture and the surrounding areas experienced a devastating earthquake at a 7.6 magnitude on New Year’s day. Although we weren’t in the area, this was still a bit heartbreaking for Maiko and I, since we were just there a little over a month ago, specifically at the Wajima morning Market where we met the kindest people in the world. Even though we just met them on that one day, we were so appreciative of how they welcomed us to their market, our hearts just goes out to all of them. This is one of the hardest hit areas in Japan and pretty much no longer exists as the earthquake collapsed many buildings and then a massive fire tore through the area of more than 200 homes and shops leaving much of it in rubble. In total, more than 26,000 people had to evacuate their homes in the Ishikawa area, while more than 12,000 people had to evacuate in the Wajima area alone. 81 people have been reported dead in Wajima and 100 people still have not been found. There’s no electricity in over 6200 homes with most everyone having no access to water. We wanted to help raise awareness with this video. If you want to help yourself there are links above. Thank you for your time.

This video is going to be a little bit different than my usual videos but I thought that it was important for me to make it as you guys may have watched for my last week’s video Japan’s eawa prefecture in the surrounding areas experienced a devastating earthquake at

A 7.6 magnitude on New Year’s Day we even felt it an I when we were there at the time and it was super scary although we weren’t there in the area it was still a bit heartbreaking for Michael and I because we were just there a month ago specifically at the wajima morning

Market where we met the kindest people in the world and even though we just met them on that one day we were so appreciative of how they welcomed us to their market so our hearts just go out to all of them this very location where I’m walking right now is one of the

Hardest hit areas in Japan and pretty much no longer exists as an earthquake collapsed many buildings and then a massive fire tore through the area of more than 200 homes and shops leaving much of it in rubble in total more than 26,000 people had to be evacuated from

Their homes in the isikawa area while more than 12,000 people had to be evacuated in the wajima area alone as of recording this 81 people have been reported dead in wajima and 100 people still have not been found also there’s no electricity in over 6,200 homes with

Most everyone having no access to water so yeah Michael and I wanted to do as much as we can to help these people in the area and at least share their story and in case you do want to help donate to the people in the area I’m going to

Leave a link in the description as well as a pin comment I’ll try to keep it simple and limit the options we personally donated to Japan Red Cross Society directly via amazon.co.jp but you do need a Japan account so alternatively we suggest a Japan platform since they have an

English website where you can go donate directly via credit card PayPal or even bank transfer just a quick note about Japan platform the website defaults the Japanese language so you’ll just want to select the English menu button at the top right to change all the text to English Japan platform are also on

Globalgiving.org if you want to donate on that site at this point anything would be helpful so we visited the wajima fish market on a rainy December day and it was about 5° at the time the market itself had been around for over, 1300 years so we were super excited to

Visit it despite the weather some of the shops were closed but we still got to check out various kinds of seafood local sake and beer the famous wajima nudi and suzu Yaki craftsmanship products and all of the other local Specialties the morning Market itself is made up of 88

Stores but a fire that started in this area just outside of the market after the earthquake soon spread to the market area since the firefighters couldn’t get access to water to put out the Flames even from the river this was because the flow of water in the area was stopped

Due to the pending tsunamis sadly many of the buildings in the area were made out of wood so the fire made quick work of them one of the places that we visited on that day was a liquor store called iumi Shu Hodo as we were walking

By and trying to get some Shelter From the rain this friendly lady from the liquor store came out and simply started to talk to us she was so warm and friendly and we decided after filming to go back and visit her shop to pick up some local

Souvenir gifts and while while we were looking around I actually had to use a bathroom and since she didn’t have one in the shop she actually took me around the back of her shop where her own house was connected and she let me inside of the house to use her own private toilet

These are things I usually don’t mention in her videos cuz it just doesn’t make sense but you know just her doing that was super nice of her and when I returned Michael and Wolfie were warming themselves up see Wolfie being wolfy thought it would be fun to jump in puddles to start our

Street food adventure and by the time we got back to the lady shop his feet were frozen cold so she let him warm up his feet in front of her space heater and let us use her shop as long as we wanted to Simply relax a bit from all the

Filming we just did and then after Wolfie got some dry socks she was kind enough to wrap his feet in plastic bags so that his socks wouldn’t get wet again from putting his wet shoes back on we didn’t ask her to do that but she did it

Anyway kind of a random act of kindness so when you heard about what was happening to the market she was one of the first people I thought about even now we hear that many people are homeless and currently in evacuation shelters apparently covid and the notto virus has been spreading in the shelters

Which makes things even more unpleasant also since there are so many people in the shelters there’s poor sanitary conditions as there are few toilets and places to dispose of garbage I can’t even imagine what they’re going through right now and due to Winter and snow conditions access to the area is

Difficult even the government is recommending that private volunteers not visit the area since many roads are inaccessible so this is one of the reasons why we wanted to donate to the people that are already going there and until conditions get better the people affected are forced to endure the

Freezing cold temperatures with little emergency supplies food and even water maybe one piece of good news news from one of the Articles we found in our research is that the lady from the liquor store is actually okay because her liquor store was referenced but we’re still not 100% completely sure

We’re really hoping that’s her unfortunately the article did confirm that our shop burned down during the fire so we also visited this wooden craft shop called Suzuki Shen it had all sorts of handcrafted Goods such as these spoons so we decided to get a set for our family that we could use every

Day the lady was kind enough to carve her names in the spoons as well so thanks to her we have something to remember the market by I don’t know it was just such a friendly Vibe throughout the entire Market that left us with a lasting impression we really loved how unique

The experience was to be able to visit all the different food market stalls purchase whatever Seafood you wanted from them bring it here and then Grill it up right on the spot you know when things settle we hope to come back here but first and foremost hope that they

Can all make it through this tough time at least we’ve seen that many of the people in the area are remaining strong staying positive and are eager to rebuild their home so please if you can share this video with your friends and family so yeah these were just some of

The warm-hearted encounters we had with the people at the wajima morning market and by me sharing our experience maybe you can help the people in this area by raising awareness I still can’t believe that we were just here we’re hoping and praying that all the people affected are

Going to be okay so again if you do want to help the people that are affected by this earthquake then I’m going to leave a link in the description as well as a pin comment where you can donate thank you for watching this video
