[ATAMI Kaihourou] A Harmony of Water and Glass Weaving an Exquisite Healing and Luxury

[Please turn on English captions to view].

We went to Japan for the first time in about six months. We stayed at the ATAMI Kaihourou, a luxury ryokan in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture. This small luxury resort with only four guest rooms/suites is built on a small hill overlooking the coast of Atami. You can spend a quiet adult time in the luxurious pavilion. The building was designed by Kengo Kuma, the designer of the New National Stadium, based on the theme of “water/glass,” and you will feel a sense of the extraordinary from the moment you step into the building. The Water Balcony on the top floor offers a spectacular view of Sagami Bay from the fully-glazed rooms, and the transparent glass rooms blend into each other without any boundaries, making you feel as if you are floating on the sea. Only guests of the luxury suites “Seiha” or “Fuuka” can use the Water Balcony for dinner, which is limited to one couple per night. We only had breakfast on the Water Balcony while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Sagami Bay.

There are four rooms: the top-of-the-line luxury suite “Seiha”, the luxury suite “Fuuka”, the Japanese-style room “Sawa”, and the Western-style room “Shozan”, all with ocean views. We stayed in the “Fuuka” and enjoyed a relaxing and luxurious stay in a spacious 90 m2 room with an open-air Atami hot spring bath.

For dinner, we were served seasonal Japanese cuisine using local seafood and seasonal ingredients. For breakfast, you can choose between Japanese and Western cuisine, and we chose Japanese. We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast very much.

The private bath with the sauna was very spacious, and we were able to fully enjoy the luxurious Atami hot spring water.

At Atami Kaihourou, we were able to enjoy the beautiful and magnificent scenery in an architectural space that is filled with the attention to detail of the masters, and we were able to experience the ultimate in healing and luxury in the guest rooms, hot springs, cuisine, and service.

We will upload videos of the hotels, inns, and restaurants where we stayed during our travel in Japan as they become available.
