I’ve already had a drink on the Shinkansen. This time, I went on a tipsy trip to Niigata, where the drinks are delicious. It snowed quite heavily on this day. For those of us who live in Yokohama, it’s piled up to an extent that we don’t usually see it.

Even with this heavy snowfall, the Shinkansen and taxis are still working, which is helpful. As expected from snow country. 10 minutes by car from Tsubame-Sanjo Station. I’ll have lunch. A popular fish specialty restaurant that orders carefully selected fresh fish from all over the country. The lunch set has a huge selection.

A restaurant with excellent value for money where you can get salt-grilled black-throated seaweed as a lunch set. It was delicious. Arrive at your accommodation. A Japanese restaurant where you can stay overnight in Iwamuro Onsen, Niigata City. A long-established store that has been designated as a nationally registered tangible cultural property.

It is also famous for hosting the Shogi Championships, and Sota Fujii defended his eight championship titles here. It is also a hot spring inn with a rich history, where Emperor Meiji once stayed. We were happy to have a choice of coffee or local beer for the welcome drink.

Between nostalgia. Starting from 22,000 yen per person (4 people/room). There’s snow outside the window. Let’s go to the hot springs right away. The source here is “Kuroyu”. In the open-air hot spring bath, you can enjoy the ingredients so rich that they leave black yuan on the soles of your feet.

I also received a coupon for free beer and coffee, so I started drinking again after taking a bath. Dinner will be served in a private room. Very elegant Japanese food. Local sake comparison set. Niigata’s sake is really delicious. Additionally, I ordered Shiogama-yaki Nodoguro. It’s luxurious.

The staff at the inn will carefully sort it out for you. This is exquisite! A cooking method that allows you to fully enjoy the flavor of plump black-throated seaweed. As expected, it’s a restaurant where you can stay overnight. The food was definitely top notch in taste.

It’s a sunny day. Enjoy the hot springs in the morning and then go to breakfast. Breakfast is also pure Japanese food. A gentle menu perfect for the day after drinking alcohol. A jet black gelato named after Kuroyu hot springs. The black sesame flavor is delicious!

I was able to spend a happy time at a good old Japanese inn. A shuttle bus will take you to your destination. The snowy scenery on a sunny day is very beautiful. Echigo Province Ichinomiya. Mt. Yahiko is enshrined as a sacred mountain. A historic shrine that is mentioned in the Manyoshu.

Surrounded by trees, the straight approach to the shrine is very beautiful. This day was the day after a heavy snowfall, so we proceeded while being careful of falling snow. The snowy scenery of the main shrine is very mysterious. Visit. Climb Mt. Yahiko behind the shrine by ropeway.

Of course, the snow on the mountain is amazing. Due to the heavy snowfall, there are not many tourists. Overlooking the snowy mountains and the Sea of Japan. A spectacular view that is worth the visit. I borrowed rain boots and went a little higher. The observation facility is not open today.

The Echigo plains are dyed white. I was surprised to hear this from a local. It seems that the famous cherry tree that used to be here fell down due to yesterday’s heavy snow. Apparently it was a natural monument… This is what it looked like in spring. disappointing. Still, enjoy this wonderful view…

After warming myself with amazake and the stove, I headed down the mountain. I had the goshuin written. There are a few restaurants and souvenir shops in front of the shrine. It was steaming hot spring steamed buns.

Take a taxi to Tsubamesanjo Station. On the way, you will pass through the large torii gate of Yahiko Shrine. What you can see beyond the huge torii gate that straddles the road is Mt. Yahiko, the sacred mountain. Take the Shinkansen to Niigata Station.

In order to eat famous B-class gourmet food, I walked to Bandai City Bus Center. I didn’t want to take the bus, but I wanted to eat the curry here. This is Niigata’s B-class gourmet food that only those in the know know. Commonly known as Bus Center Curry.

It is served standing and eating style. It has a nostalgic and addictive taste. It is very tasty! Even a mini curry for 420 yen is enough. It’s about the size of a normal serving size at other stores.

Retort curry was also on sale, so I bought it as a souvenir. It’s already become a habit… At the end of our trip, we headed to the Sakekan at Niigata Station. Here, there is a facility where you can sample sake from all over Niigata.

Receive 5 coins in advance for 500 yen and purchase 1 choko from the kokakisake machine. It’s a fun spot to get tipsy while searching for your favorite sake. If you are unsure, ask for a recommendation from the staff. AI will choose the alcohol that suits you.

There are also premium drinks that can be purchased for 2 or more coins. I tried drinking plum wine made with Japanese sake. Delicious with a refreshing sweetness!

On the Shinkansen ride home, I drank sake while heading home. Hot spring drinking trip in Niigata. It was a two-day period in which I felt very good.
