Hokkaido Japan in Winter – Snowy Drive in Biei

Welcome to Japan Photo Explore. Join me on a snowy drive in Hokkaido, Japan’s large northerly island. We’ll start at Hokkaido’s second largest city, Asahikawa, driving to the town of Biei and its beautiful rolling hills, a Mecca for minimalist photography. Then on to Shirogane Onsen with its gorgeous icicle and hot spring waterfall. And I’ll be stopping to take some photos wherever I can.

Whether you are planning to go to Japan or just enjoy some armchair travel, you have come to the right place.

Japan Photo Explore is a series of travel and photography vlogs and videos that show you some amazing places, some of them hidden gems.

My name is Nick Pitsas and I am a content producer and photographer. 1. I could watch videos of Hokkaido during winter all day long. However, I have been there 5 times, 2x in summer with camping car and 3 x for the Snow festival in Sapporo. There is always something to discover. However, I see on YouTube many talks and visit the same places, and it becomes repetitive. There is so much more and you don't have to travel all day to get amazing shots. I would love to see less-known places as well.
I live in Japan and I have noticed that tourists go to the most popular Instagram destinations even if they have to travel 100+km to take a picture of a bridge or temple. The problem with this strategy is that 99% of tourists will follow the same path – meaning more people, more traffic, higher prices etc. I can guarantee you can go to any smaller, less-known places to find many hidden gems.

  2. Some great drone work, Nick, and some of your best stills yet! Interesting to see how many other photographers were out and about in those wonderful minimalist areas.
