After exploring the Golden Triangle of Japan it was time for us to visit The Road Less Traveled and take in the beautiful sites North Japan has to offer in this video we visit yamadera also known as daki to take in the Serene snowy landscape breathtaking views of the valley and historic Buddhist temples
Located in the mountains Northeast of Yamagata City good morning from sandai it is beautiful day today and I got to say I had the best sleep last night this room it’s messy with all of that in here but the bed was super comfy the pillow the sheets the temperature
Control yeah and as soon as you close those blinds it’s just black out so it started getting light I think like 5:30 5:00 and um yeah didn’t see any light it was perfect the alarm definitely jolted me awake but yes it it did its job
That’s for sure cuz it turned on all the lights as well well something I need back home I think but yeah we’re actually heading off to a couple of places today we’re heading off to Risha kui Temple so apparently there’s just beautiful views so it’s a
Nice day today so I reckon it’s going to be really nice cuz it’s actually clear skies today so it’s going to be a bit cold um yeah bit bit cold today I think it’s a top of 13 but should be good looking forward to enjoying our time
While we’re here in Sendai cuz we’re only here for two nights but should be good I’ll keep you updated we kick off our journey nice and early in the morning and head straight to Sendai station we jumped on the Jr senzan line towards Yamagata which takes a little
Over 1 hour to reach yamadera station as we exited Sendai we noticed the landscape slowly changed from lush green Flora to a snowy Winter Wonderland we were a little bit concerned at first as we weren’t wearing the most water resistant shoes but as soon as we jumped
Off the train and onto the platform suddenly we were transported back to a childlike State marveling at and frolicking in the snow for the very first time oh my God wa can make snowballs I’m going to chop one at you let me make a bigger one hold on W look at
That it’s still alive a apparently hey we haven’t even made up the like the train drives Like [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] Yeah yamadera which literally means Mountain Temple is about a 5minute walk from yamadera station there are several Temple buildings around the base of the mountain but the main attractions are the temple grounds of the upper area of the mountain side you will need to pay around 300 Yen to enter but from the
Sunmon gate it takes approximately 30 minutes to ascend the mountain now tackling these steps might be a bit challenging for some but believe us the experience is absolutely worth it as we made our way up during the Spring delicate snowflakes gently cascaded through the trees adding an extra layer
Of Enchantment to the journey oh here’s a big One Near the summit keep an eye out for the impressive midah Rock fashioned in the likeness of amida Buddha but the real showstopper is a neomon gate a 19th century Marvel and one of the newer additions to the temple this marks the beginning of the upper Temple area and
The views from here are absolutely breathtaking past the neomon gate the mountain mountain side is peppered with various Temple buildings each offering unique perspectives of the valley Below climbing further you’ll encounter more stairs leading to the god Hall an observation deck with unrivaled views of the valley yamadera was founded over a thousand years ago in the year 860 as a temple of the tendi sect it is also known for being visited by the famous
Poet bashel who composed one of the most celebrated haiku about the Stillness and Silence of the area There I [Applause] If we’re going to be up north and we’re going to be in snow I might try Z Oh wow it’s like just level oh that is so cute that’s really Cute all that exploring got us pretty hungry so while making our way back to Sendai we stopped at a sber restaurant in the neighboring town of aashi that’s really yummy Normal vending machine a gan vending machine please select product number we do have 500 yen you want to try okay guys editing Rachel here but be aware that we bought a gutan dish from this vending machine thinking that it would be hot and ready to eat like the
Other hot drink machines you can find around Japan it does not we didn’t read the signs properly and you have to use a microwave or stove top to heat it up so you have been Warned situated to the west of Sendai station you’ll find the ruins of the former castle of the DAT Clan AA castle built in the year 1600 the castle endured several attacks a fire and bombing over the last 400 years now all that is left is the remnants of the
Outer ston walls and the guard Tower however du to its location of 100 met above the town the site offers a Scenic Lookout over Sendai City and an armor clad horseback statue of the powerful feudal Lord d masum and with that our day was done we walked
