Wow, that is coming down HEAVY! But it’s SAPPORO, not New York! we are back in JAPAN! This is our third visit to one of our favourite countries and we have landed bang in the middle of winter where we will be exploring all over Japan for the next four weeks

“It is so cold that the waterfall has frozen!” when you think of Japan you might think of something like this… rather than something like this! we’re here to show you that Japan really has it all especially during winter so stick around whilst we share with you our journey

Starting in the northernmost part of Japan Hokkaido! it’s really Frozen that is! Haha That was a bad idea this is amazing Ummm… my neck pillow seems to have gathered a lot of snow in a short period of time all right this way this is cute oh this is really nice! nice big room

I love this little Lounge area as well oh Japanese toilet of course it is! for those of you that don’t know Alex and I have a love of Japanese toilets mainly because of this shower spray as you can see this is the shape of a bottom

And it goes whoopshhh up the bum hole I can take this off now who thought it would snow so much in Japan and to top it off! we have his and hers matching pjamas! YAY Welcome to Hokkaido guys! so we’ve just started our first full day

Exploring the Hokkaido region and today we’re going to be exploring Sapporo! Ready to see Sapporo! We’ve woken up into an absolute magical Winter Wonderland We woke up thinking please be sun! please be sun! and we have clear skies this morning we are heading to Nijo Market

Which is very famous for Sapporo where we can go try some very fresh fish Apparently this is a very popular place to have the freshest sashimi it looks amazing! So Nijo Market there are literally vendors everywhere on each side down the Main Street and actually inside under the buildings itself you are spoilt for choice with some of the freshest Seafood caught in this region

Just to give you guys a perspective that’s the size of the crab legs $120 Australian dollars wow this bad boy here! and the coolest thing that we just found out is this floor is heated we’re not really sure how that works but that is amazing

You can literally see the difference where it’s heated and not heated! I always remember that sound crossing in Japan and the time is 9:42AM so we’ve now made it to the start of the ‘Sapporo Snow Festival’ and there are sculptures absolutely everywhere in this park

The attention to detail on some of these sculptures is absolutely amazing and there’s lots of Anime characters as well something that we are not too familiar with but of course since we are in Japan it is something that we are going to have to read up on

And appreciate what we are observing apparently there’s one called Anya and she’s very famous on Netflix! again the attention to detail is amazing so the Sapporo snow Festival is a major winter event not just in Hokkaido, but in the whole of Japan!

So the Sapporo snow Festival is only on for one week out of the entire year so we are pretty lucky to be here while it’s on for just one week some of the best snow and ice sculptures are on display to the public before being demolished

Okay I think we have found the biggest snow sculpture so far and it is a scene that can only be depicted from Jurassic Park! it’s super impressive! the main section is in Odori Park, which is in the center of Sapporo and it stretches for over one kilometer

I mean it just keeps getting better and better oh my God! Look at that race horse! that’s insane! how high that is That’s quite steep I’m too big it’s kids only! oh never mind! my dreams are shattered so every year they build a new snow sculpture of a different building from a different country and this year is from Great Britain so what are the chances that we’re here when this one’s been built Okay so we have finished this area of the Sapporo Snow Festival there are other areas here in Sapporo which we’re going to explore a little bit later today but for now we are feeling a little bit peckish so we’re going to take a 10 minute walk to Ganso Ramen Alley

Where of course we’re gonna get some Ramen Alex is chilly! I’m Cold! the cold got to my fingers so we’ve just stumbled across Susukino Ice World and it stretches so far some of these ice sculptures are absolutely… again I keep saying it it’s absolutely stunning should we just go for a wonder?

Yeah we’ll have a walk down have a look So you can tell which restaurants are more popular than others because the queues are ridiculous okay so we have decided to go for soy sauce noodles but we’re going to share because they look like big portions! and a large one and a large one

I’m gonna of course get some gyoza on the side there’s so many options, I think the traditional one is Miso? but James isn’t too much of a fan of the Miso so we’re going to try the soy sauce

There’s so much you can get – butter corn, spicy miso, butter noodle, more noodles, so much choice! oh wow! lots of noodles! and we got gyoza! just for me haha I’ll keep that this side! ok lets do it the proper way yum its so fresh

How was the soup it’s um it’s really smokey A smokey taste really good. My turn it burns you inside but I love it nice tender how was that? that was so good! fat and full, out of ten? I give it an eight out of ten! It was very delicious

So we find ourselves back in the heart of Sapporo we’ve just made it to Sapporo train station and we are trying to find the JR Tower because we are about to make our way to the observation deck where we will have some pretty epic views over Sapporo

173 meters so it might not be the tallest building in the world however it’s taller than the Sapporo TV Tower… yeah exactly here we go whoa that is epic check out this view of the men’s toilets how insane is this! you can literally pee with a view of Sapporo insane!
