Get dressed in armour with me in Matsumoto City松本市にて甲冑に変身⚡

I took my first trip to Matsumoto in Nagano. I booked armour rental via a Kimono Rental shop called Hanakomichi.初めて長野県松本市訪れました。せっかくお城も遊びに行くので甲冑をレンタルして参りました。花子みち着物レンタルお世話になりました。
i got dressed in the following order:
1.Jikatabi 地下足袋 tabi shoes (not socks) for outdoor wear. 自宅クリーニング済み畳ではいて大丈夫でした(*These had been machine washed and the staff said to please wear them on the tatami👍️)
2. samue作務衣 traditional top and bottom set used by crafts people but also good for lightweight garments under armour.作務衣が軽くて着やすかった。
3.suneate臑当:shin armour
4.haidate 佩楯:thigh guards
5.kote 籠手:gauntlet/sleeves
6.dou 胴: cuirass
7.sarashi uwaobi:サラシうわ帯:outer obi made of non slip fabric.
8.sode 袖: shoulder armour
9.kabuto 兜: helmet this kabuto is based on on the one that the famous baseball player Shohei Ohtani wears.
The maedate (helmet emblem) is a shishi 獅子 or lion thought of as a talisman to ward off evil spirits 前立が邪気を払う魔除けの意味合いと言ってます。
After getting ready, I put on waraji 草鞋 or straw sandals and put an uchigatana 打刀 through my sarashi obi and then made my way to Matsumoto Castle.

This was very interesting, there are always a few parts that I know little or nothing about, and this was no different. I did not know about the sarashi uwaobi, and it would never have occurred me that it takes some of the weight of the armour from the shoulders. From the waist down it is very much like ice hockey padding. While from waist up it's more like Canadian or American football padding. Looking very impressive as you strolled to your Jo, as a true Daimyo would.

Ah very interesting to see the actual process! I remember an episode of begin japanology where the host was in the Sendai area if I remember correctly and they had visited an armor manufacturing company.

You had me at 'armour rental service' 🙂 This was really interesting seeing the process and complexity of the dress and the clever use of the sarashi uwaobi. Interestingly, there was a rumour that Shohei Ohtani was going to be traded to Toronto and that fell through today. 🙂
20㎏位でしょうから、結構重たそうですね。あの甲冑だと遠くからの弓矢は防げそうですが、勢い良く槍を繰り出されると貫通しそうです。
