Osaka and Kyoto: Castles, Temples, and Adventure

Amazing trip to Japan in January 2023.
3 temples, 2 castles, 1 dangerous hike.

Osaka Castle, one of the most famous landmarks in Japan. The castle was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a powerful warlord who unified Japan in the 16th century.

Kyoto, the former capital of Japan and a city rich in tradition and beauty. Kyoto has over a thousand temples and shrines, and many of them are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. First we went to Nishiki Market, a narrow shopping street that specializes in food and cuisine. The market is also known as “Kyoto’s Kitchen”.

Nijo Castle is a flatland castle in Kyoto, Japan, that was built as the residence of the Tokugawa shoguns in the 17th century. It is one of the most famous and historic landmarks in Japan, and it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.

We also visited 3 temples. Fushimi Inari Shrine, an important Shinto shrine. Inari i is one of the most popular and revered gods in Shinto. Honen-in, a small and peaceful temple near the Philosopher’s Path, a scenic walkway along a canal. And Ginkakuji Temple, also known as the Silver Pavilion.

Our last adventure was hike through Mount Daimonji.
