Is CHINA really what you think? Join me on my first day exploring Shanghai to find out the truth. Given the news headlines about government surveillance and tension with other countries, I was nervous about visiting China. However, I wanted to experience the real China for myself beyond the media narratives. So I flew to Shanghai with an open mind. And what I discovered surprised me.

I went to China on a 144-hour transit visa, which I will talk about in detail in my video. I found Shanghai an advanced, green city with kind people, tasty food, and awesome infrastructure like the maglev bullet train. While there are certainly political issues in China worth discussing, on a human level most locals I met were welcoming and simply living normal lives – working hard and enjoying time with family and friends.

Overall, Shanghai felt safe, convenient and modern with cutting-edge technology everywhere. From mobile payments to ubiquitous electric vehicles, China seems ahead of much of the world in innovation. Yes, personal freedoms and certain websites/apps are restricted in China relative to Western countries. But Shanghai hardly felt oppressed given the vibrant street life and economic prosperity on display.

This video takes you along on my eye-opening first day in Shanghai. See the maglev train, famous skyline views, street markets and more while I share honest impressions about daily life and Chinese culture. China surprised me – and it may surprise you too!

  1. WELCOME TO CHINA 🇨🇳! I went to China on a 144-hour transit visa, I found Shanghai an advanced, green city with kind people, tasty food, and awesome infrastructure like the maglev bullet train. Putting politics aside, on a human level most locals I met were welcoming and simply living normal lives – working hard and enjoying time with family and friends.

  2. Noddle is not Chinese pasta.😊. E-wallet. You just not bother to get the vocabulary correctly.😊read up before commenting the about the 🏫🏢 building.😊

  3. Did you see any oppressed people?Or police dragging people off the street for no reasons? OR homeless people? This is what BBC AND CNN tell people.

  4. You criticize Chinese videos for having a higher click through rate, but if you praise China for being good, I won't follow you and click on it😅

  5. I don’t understand the so-called Chinese music in videos made by Westerners. Chinese people have never heard it and don’t like it.

  6. The Maglev travelled at 431km/h fore very journey when I was there in Shanghai more than 10 years ago. Now it has been reduced to about 300km/h so that it reduces wear and tear and to be more energy efficient. I think only 2 time slots it travels at 431km/h. The Fuxing series bullet train travels faster than that at 350km/h, which is max speed for now in the world. I recommend destinations such as provinces Yunnan and Xinjiang for most diverse and beautiful landscapes, most diverse ethnicities and ancient architectures.

  7. This is the reality of people who are brainwashed in the West: 😢 “Perception is merely a lens or mindset from which we view people, events, and things.” In other words, we believe what we perceive to be accurate, and we create our own realities based on those perceptions.

  8. Some Asian countries used English for sign posts with their native language.

How come we don't see America or English speaking countries using Chinese words in their sign post too? So who are the bad guys actually?

  9. 上海曾经是美国英国法国日本的殖民地,所以在这里有很多西方风格的建筑,祝你玩的愉快

  10. The reason why YouTube, Facebook are blocked there because they think they can says to chinese goverment where the tables stand, like they do in US. And boy they were so wrong about it. 😂

  11. All the white devils before they go to China they say China this that bad but after go to China they say this good that good and don't want to go back to their western countries.

  12. You may think that this is about China, but no, it is really about Australia, how corrupted and biased its politicians and media are; they tell lies and smear China on a daily basis, hence Australians come to China and surprise-surprise, China is not what they have been told!

  13. CCP PROPAGANDA! Sure it looks nice, but what about freedom? I went to China once and as the plane approached, I could feel the freedom being sucked out of my body, and when we landed, I was like where did all my freedom go? I have no freedom here!

  14. The Art Deco buildings in Shanghai are buildings when Shanghai was under foreign rule; there were British, French and American concession areas.

  15. 最近好多网红来大陆,三哥是来一波又一波现在该欧美的来了,随着最近的免签六国估计流量不会少

  16. Что скажете по поводу Бастиона? Можно ли доверять там полит.блогерам, пишущим по этой теме?

  17. Proud of you for visiting China and seeing it with your own eyes instead of just believing all the biased negative news we get from Western MSM

  18. I am curious of how the China you saw with your own eyes is different from the China that the mainstream media in your country portrayed? So you were from Australia?

  19. With only a single trip? Took me 7 trips and still hardly scratch the surface. Another totally naive guy! No doubt that he realise just how backward England is really these days.

  20. These buildings on the Bubd were buikt in the early twentieth centiry, when western concessions existed.
It wasntnabiut the penalties. Chihese just aren't violent.

  21. You did the right thing , You went see china by your self . Not according to Western media speaking . Good luck for you and enjoy your trip .

  22. I think I have mixed up taiwan and hongkong are not country. that's why they have 20 mins to decided let you go or not. you lucky boy.

  23. Wow the infrastructure looks amazing, the streets are so clean and the people look like they bathe everyday. Not like India the rubbish dump where I'm from 😢

  24. By the way , i just checked now , it’s not true chinese government take all your money if you fighting with someone . But have general penalty for fighting between 6000 to 15000 CNY . But if this fighting cause death to someone it will be more penalties .

  25. Dude, you are super awesome , soo honest and clear about that 144 hour thing. Thanks for all the great info about getting through those things. Have a blessed one in China .

  26. 我要在此纠正一下,台湾省,香港特别行政区,是中华人民共和国的一部分,他们不是一个国家,如果你连这个都能搞错,我们会很不高兴,哼

  27. Because China has an independent writing and language. Unlike other countries that are inseparable from American culture and apps and have nothing of their own.
