Assalmu Alikom people! Greetings of peace,
Day 2 of our Japan trip and it is raining in Tokyo. We decided to head to Ueno Park to see the Cherry Blossoms , Sakura. We also had a lot of amazing Japanese street food and went to visit the outdoor market called Ameya-Yokochō located in Ueno district.
Our hotel is near Shimbashi Station which is on the Yamanote Green Line. The Yamanote green line is really important to get around in Tokyo, it is a loop line that takes you basically to all the major areas in Tokyo.
The JR pass is accepted on the Yamanote Line, so you can take it unlimited as long as you have the JR Pass. If you want to pay for the fare it costs about $2.50 US.
We get off at Ueno station and head to the Ameyoko outdoor market. This is a must if you visit Tokyo!
Ameya-Yokochō located in Ueno district has tons of great shopping and food to try for a reasonable price. We ended up eating at Minato Ueno Sushi for breakfast, that is how you start the morning in Japan! Another restaurant for sushi to try at Ameya-Yokocho is Chirashi don – sashimi rice bow, where you can have great sashimi and sushi if you are on a budget!
After we had our sashimi “donburi” bowls we headed to the park in the rain to see the cherry blossoms and it was definitely worth getting soaked.
Ueno Park is huge, so take your time, as you are walking you will find a lot of street vendors offering delicious Japanese street food. Take it all in, the beautiful colors of the cherry blossoms and the unique Japanese style gardens.
After walking around Ueno Park and sampling the street food, Sarah wanted to go check out an Owl Cafe. We walked from Ueno to Akihabara district where most of the themed cafes, electronics and anime are located.
We went to Owl No Mori, and got to spend some time hanging out with the Owls and having some hot chocolate all for $9 US.
We ended up shopping around Akihabara district, getting some Anime and electronics.
Akihabara is really for people who are into the electronics, games, anime, and everything Japanese!
For dinner we went back to Ameyoko market to grab some street food and shop!
