Mt. Fuji is the tallest mountain in Japan, standing at 3,776 meters (12,388 feet). It is an icon of Japan and a must do activity if you are a hiker visiting Tokyo. There are many trails leading up to the summit. The most popular trail, the one shown in this video, is the Yoshida trail starting from the 5th station. There is a convenient bus taking hikers from Shinjuku bus station in Tokyo directly to 5th station. Advanced reservation is recommended for the bus since seats get sold out quickly. After reaching the 5th station, just follow the Yoshida trail all the way to the summit. If you want to see the sunrise, you can book a mat in one of the many huts along stations 7, 8, and 9. These huts provide you a sleeping bag, pillow, and a space on the floor. They also provide a simple dinner and some snacks for breakfast. Mt. Fuji’s Yoshida trail has many snack shops selling food and water, so no need to bring a lot of provisions. The top of the mountain can be quite cold at night, so bring warm layers even if visiting in the summer.
