  1. BGC is like living in Manhattan for real estate/rent prices. It is where the richest of the rich live in PH, so take his expense assessment with a grain of salt.

  2. Wow I lived quite well on less than that when I lived in the west. This fella must have very high standards. Safe to assume he doesn’t indulge in the actual culture

  3. I been to all 🇻🇳 4/5 problem there no metro no English but it cheap af

Phippines the best but it cost more then Thai and viet

Thai best food affordable lot tourtist

  4. You guys are not on the path to FI. Get a degree 1st and find a decent job. Live frugally and save to buy assets that produce passive income and repeat. You can’t just rely on youtube, its not sustainable and unpredictable. Kids right now are rushing to retire in their 30s without building wealth, that’s delusional.

  5. I think in the US the loneliness epidemic is due to the fact that we don’t have strong familial and friendship ties. Like you say, when you turn 18, you’re out of the house. Other countries, family often lives together multigenerationally and remains close. The work hustle culture too in the U.S. prevents people from having lives outside of work because of cost of living. Many people have 2-3 jobs just to scrape by so where does that leave time to socialize? The U.S. is messed up in so many regards including loneliness.

  6. I also don’t know why people would hate on you for your budget. It’s your budget. It doesn’t mean they have to do the same. But it works for you. It makes you happy. So keep doing you and ignore the outside noise.

  7. Trash talking the States doesn’t really help and only exposes your ignorance …BGC does not come close to NY or SF or LA… these are sophisticated cities with top notch Michelin restaurants, opera, ballet, museums, symphony not to mention architectural gems…access to quality health care, nature, literature and theatre… the middle class in the states can enjoy all of these …one doesn’t have to be rich here to enjoy and enrich life… one just needs to be smart and resourceful …

  8. Another great interview Evan, good to hear from someone who isn't settled down and travels all over Asian. The loneliness issue I do believe has to do with the lack of the generational family social structure and the attitude people have to each other. Like you mention, the friendly culture of the Philippines directly affects the feeling of loneliness. Family is very important to most Asian nations, not so much in the USA plus the number of broken families in the USA is epidemic too.

  9. I didn’t hear much about KL Malaysia, which is also an English speaking city. How does that compare regarding to cost, transportation, environment, life style?

  10. Wanted to thank you for your videos. I’m moving to the Philippines in two months. 53 years old and your videos really helped a lot with my decision. Flying into Cebu and will stay there and travel the islands. Any suggestions for an early retiree?

  11. Hi Ivan, i will be in BGC in 5 months, looking to purchase a 1-2 bedroom condo, hopefully will see you, will stay for 3 weeks.

  12. The lonliness epidemic also has to do with how far everything is from people in the states, and how you need a car to go anywhere. It's not like most good cities in the world where you can just step outside and walk to your destination, or take the local subway/metro to your destination. The US needs to do away with car centric infrastructure!

  13. Agree. Thai food is the best. I am Filipino but Thai food is incomparable for me. Just the preparation and thé different spices used are superb.
Singapore is so-so. Just a small expensive city.

  14. A great interview Evan, thanks. I've just taken early retirement from the UK, and come to live in Makati, to travel around the Philippines, with a budget of £3000(sterling) per month. As I've only been here for a couple of weeks it's good to hear people saying that £3000 is a budget on which you can live a really good life in the Philippines. I would say, though, that I would prefer Makati to BGC, just for the street food, which is a whole new experience for me, and new experiences are why I came here. I think Makati, in some places, can be a bit rough around the edges, but not in a dangerous or bad way, it just has character. BGC is a very nice place but it's also very "perfect".

  15. When you live like a king you have servants I see these people with no service so they're not living like

  16. If you have the budget of a King, you can certainly spend a fortune in a struggling, up and coming economy like the Philippines, but you sure don’t need to in order to be happy here. $1,000 is decent. $2,000 gives you a very comfortable lifestyle. $3,000 is overboard and just extravagent but perfectly okay.

  17. $4000 a month is what I pay for one of my sons in the UK attending university with a flat and a car..makes me laugh when ya get these so called budgets. This guy has no responsibilities …wait until ya have kids have private schools etc. Even if you transpose lifestyles ..a private school in Manila is more expensive than the UK. Crazy prices…
